No poopoo in the van. Rule #1. There's always a vault toilet/gas station/resort bathroom nearby. Go there, don't stink up the van.

It has a full shower. Cassette toilet sits in there. I pour it out into a toilet after every trip. Not too bad to deal with. No black tank, just a grey.

My Grandpa (born in 1928) skied until he was 88. The only reason he stopped is because he had a hard time getting on and off the lifts.

He always like to brag to people on the mountain that he rode on the first rope tow and chairlift in Colorado. My parents still have the skis he used at Berthoud Pass in the 40s.
There's a guy up at Schweitzer that told me this was his 13th year to ski free. They don't charge once you hit 80.

That is wild!

This is our current situation at Beaver Creek. We got some great runs in before the storm then miraculously after lunch it let up for about 2 hours and we skid fresh snow which is always nice.

It's been a crap snow year in Anchorage.

Looking pretty seriously at relocating to Anchorage, but I've never skied there. Pretty cool area though because they have 3 different hills around Anchorage.

Anyone have experience with Ortovox clothing? I've generally seen good things online. Looking at picking up a pair of lined shell pants.

Park City got 7" today. The wind was howling and my wife's ski instructor told her that it was the roughest day of the season and they closed most of PCCR from what I was told due to wind.

Tomorrow should be much nicer.

One day at Beaver Creek with an Epic discount was $380. It's a hair cheaper for older kids.

Thanks. We did group lessons at Snowbasin and it was $320/day all in for the 5 year old and a little less for the 7 year old. Class size was about 4-6 kids. I thought it was a good deal. Maybe because a friend told me to go to Deer Valley. Their lessons were double the cost.

Sunshine Village was CA$160 ($111) for full day group kid lessons before the 20% season pass discount. Spring family season pass (valid 3/8 to May) was ~$850, which was significantly cheaper than buying four days of lift tickets for two adults and three kids.

Looking to start doing some research on an upgraded ski boot liner/sleeve/insert. Not sure if I need the entire sleeve replaced (current is in OK condition) or just a better foot bed insole. Intent is just to have a bit more overall comfort for my feet.

I own a pair of Atomic Hawx that I bought around 2017, so they aren't new by any means. They have plenty of life in them and have usual wear (no tear, yet).

I am not a ski gear expert by any means, so I am just looking for some main things to consider and look for. I don't want to spend a ton either, so that may eliminate some of the more custom options, but I am open to it. Not sure if that would be something I would need to do during our next trip up to Colorado.

TIA

I'm no expert either but I spent the extra ~ 100 bucks when I bought my boots at boot mechanics a couple years ago and they've been great.

What a great few days. Tuesday we had 5" new at Big Sky. Yesterday, day old 15" and today 4-5" at Grand Targhee, and still coming down. but the best part is both my 9 & 16 yo girls now love powder & trees. My 9 year old did her first black diamond and hiked a ridge with me to cut fresh tracks. On top of that my daughter's boyfriend is making the transition from skis to board and doing really well.

Spring Break 2025 @ Beaver Creek is officially over. Was a fantastic ski week with off and on snow showers and random blue bird skies.

Our two oldest kiddos are now skiing down blacks with their old man. It was only 4 years ago they were crying at ski school. Our youngest skied down the entire mountain(greens) by her self.

Unfortunately we have to wait until January to do it again. Great thread as usual and hope everyone has safe travels!

Bit of a scary situation for me today. Riding up the beaver run lift at Breck right out of the lift house my skis and legs start getting pulled back under the lift pulling the entire chair backwards. Luckily we had just lowered the bar which helped keep me from being pulled out of the chair. And then all of the sudden my skis were released.

I looked back and realized my skis had caught the rope at the end of the lift house run out. I know I'm tall but no idea why they had it so high that it caught my skis.

Saw at least one other Ag in town (century & 12th man stickers) as I pulled out of the north gondola lot to head home this afternoon.

So, woah. Sorry, my only photo of today camped in Meadow's Hood for the storm.

Getting sucked under a lift for a lifty rope is new to me. And I'm 6'2" and run 190+ skis. Yowzers.

For the other on fitting old boots. It's a decision based on quality available. Where and who would tune your boots? There are DIY available, but you have to need and want it.

Our report: pushing, not skiing, 12" of heavy west coast pow today. It's just endless mogul'esque skiing. Add on 60 mph gusts and it was a work day.

Yeah, workday, 20k of vert between work calls today. The life!!

Not to run salt in wound... 48" in last 7 days.

The past Tuesday, the 18th, was pretty wicked on the mountain though. 15-30+ winds.

I'm in the same boat, have boots that mostly fit right but just need some tweaks, but I am never up in CO with time to drop them off with someone who knows what they are doing, so I suffer a bit of discomfort. I've done some work myself but the experts have the proper tools and experience to make a couple of punches and adjustments I can't. I don't have time to go leave them at a place all day when I could be up on the mountain.

Think ive maybe convinced my wife that she needs skis. When I was returning her and the kids rentals I commented on how f'ing heavy her rentals were.

She's skied three days each of the last few years but I think she's finally starting to get it. I didn't actually ski with her at all this trip because I missed a day and a half with a bug and I was chasing the kids while she continues to figure it out. But I want to let her continue to progress (and get her hooked with more gear so we HAVE to keep skiing).

I'm thinking a lighter ski, maybe something with a low 80s waist. Starting to look around before the wave passes her. Was looking hard last summer and she told me she didn't want skis.

After talking toy nephews and a guy at powder7 in Golden this week who was super helpful I think the list is

Black Pearls
Atomic Mavens
Ripsticks
Volkl Revolts
BC Captis

Powder 7 guy suggested k2 mindbenders but I have a weird anti k2 bias I can't explain.

I'm sure this is a dumb question - but what's that under your right front tire? Maybe it's under your left front too but can't tell due to snow. I'm assuming something for extra traction?

Yea 6'8" here w/ 191s but still I would've assumed they'd hang the ropes where it was impossible for anyone to get tangled up in.
Side note I rode the t-bar up with a dude who said he once rode up the t-bar with a 7'4" dude once. And I thought I was too big for this sport.

What are yalls thoughts on ski bikes? After this last trip my kids seem excited about skiing. My oldest probably needs another round of ski school and the younger one we will see. My wife and I have never skied but she has already bought kids ski suits for next year.

At some point we either need to learn so we can be with the kids, pay for private lessons for the kids one they get a little better, or we look at a ski bike.
I'm closer to 50 than 40 (damn) got a repaired ACL where the knee has never felt the same since and has now developed arthritis.

The ski bike looks like a fun and easy way to be on the slopes with the kids while being lower risk for injury. Looks like a lot of resorts allow them but some have restrictions on the type you can use.

So thinking about next year it is either get prepared to learn to ski or find a resort that allows ski bikes and a place to rent them. The main goal is just building memories with the kids.

Go treads. Imo, better than the lego leveling blocks. Also doubles as traction boards if we ever need them.

Bottom of the lift at 945 am Thursday. 8* temps keeps these silly spring breakers away.

2nd is the top of little Pierre. Amazing views of the continental divide.

Learn to ski. Have you water skied? Are you somewhat athletic?

You can learn to putt around on greens in a few days of lessons if you're somewhat in shape and have balance and done ANY water sports.

Ski Bikes are the future. They are a BLAST. With that said, they don't serve the function you're asking about AT ALL.

If you're ski biking, you're ski biking. You cant mix a ski bike group up w normal skiers or boarders. It's either all ski biking or none ski biking. I mean you can but it's ALOT more fun if you mongol hoard than individually. It's a group sport. It's fun but not nearly as fun alone. If you do decide to do it, I'd so somewhere like Copper than renta bikes and lessons and do it as a group lesson. It's a BLAST. It's the future. Snowboarding is dead. Honestly, its past dead. It hasn't envolved meaningfully tech wise in almost a decade. Ski biking is snowboarding in 1992. Get in and get ready because its coming. It's just too much fun.

With that said, They are also alot better in powder than hard pack. A hard pack fall HURTS on a ski bike. It's a cold aluminum frame slamming into you. Easy to Learn but also easy to get hurt if you arent careful or have no idea What You're doing and How to gtfo a bike that about to eat teeth.

The common injuries by activity:

Snowboards : broken wrists & knees
Skiing: Torn ACL/MCL + broken ankles / shoulders / concussion
Ski Biking : All of the above + broken tibias

If you mountain bike and know how to fall off a bike without hurting yourself, ski biking is an easy pickup. If you don't know how to MB and more specifically how to clear the frame when you start to eat it, you can break your neck or leg super quickly.

Lenz is the top. If you have specific questions about them please lmk. We started a couple of years ago and LOVE IT. Now we have a whole 10 x 10 for bikes and ski equipment. Probs like 2-3 for each of us. On a powder day, ski biking crushes boarding or skiing. On hard pack, it can be equally as awful though.

Not sure why this replied to you Chop so sorry!

Ski biking Is more than just renting it and getting up on the hill and being a stud or even getting down. You have to Learn How to load to unload, you have to Learn How to move the blade, when You push into the hill and when to release. It's Not nearly as easy as you're projecting it to be. It still takes time to Learn and more time to master . If you're a MB pro it's ALOT easier, but even then there's a learning curve.

I wouldn't expect to get on the hill w a ski bike and have a good time if you don't have someone giving you a lesson on the hill or being very very patient w you for a couple of days.

Also if you rent/buy one get a type 2 pegger w full suspensin. It's alot easier.

If you're in the Vail/BC area and want to give it a go, I can see if my homies Jamas Sliber, Ben Garty, or Adam Wasson are available for a rental and lesson. AMAZING PEOPLE and INCREDIBLE ski bikers w the Patience of Jobe. Just buy Wasson and Garty a 30 of Hamms or Jamo a rack of non-alcohlics and you're probs good to good .

For me, I and a bit old school for a millennial. My main concerns with the growth of snow bikes is safety and crowds. I am already hyper aware of snowboarders and the additional blind spots they have; just wondering what additional safety concerns there may be with an influx of another type of activity down the mountain.

The problem with bikes is the lift chairs. And collisions with other persons could be much more damaging. They look fun and enjoyable but I do agree in icy conditions they would be really tough going. I think there should be ways to make them very light so they carry less force. On the good side, they're always looking directly where they are going and can't pull such tight turns so they should be easier to avoid.
