When I was in my guys' trip in PC last month one of the guys was having trouble with his two year old Sure foots. Guy fussed with them and ended giving him a brand new pair. Convinced another guy in my group to go get some. Most of the rest of my crew (who were all 5-6 beers deep) tagged along to spend his money. We're handing out beers left and right to the shop staff.

Hah, my dad was in ag sales, so our circle might be even tighter. We moved to CS when I was in 8th grade. But infant to then was in Panhandle. Same class as Practical Engineering (Grady is a popular YouTuber (and Aggie) from Panhandle).

My dad was a big skier and we spent every Christmas and spring break in Taos.

Back to today, WTF is this storm. 3' on Hood. Blower pow with refills all day. Storm of the season!

I'm heading to Sun Valley for solo yolo later half of the week. Need to burn Ikon days. True ski bumming it: van around parking lots.

They only took me a few times growing up but I often thank my folks, Dad especially, who passed on his passion for skiing to me at a young age. Now I feel it's my turn to do the same with my boys. And selfishly to have an excuse for my wife to keep up my habit.

I'm not sure on this board or others but you should detail your rig setup.

Food/cooking, shower, sleep situation, etc.

We're not camper van material yet but we do RV.

A capable class B could be in our future. Although, I did just buy a new f250 to pull a bigger rig.

Maybe we'll just have to do both? My wife may not mind driving a decked out Nissan NV with a lift, BFG KO2s and a nice camping setup.

We park our Rv in college station all football season so we "need" a nicer setup for "camping".

Big Sky tomorrow and Grand Targhee the following 2-3 days or JHMR depending on conditions.

I've watched a few of his videos, I had no Idea he was an Aggie and that he was from Panhandle.

Maybe my favorite part of the Dr. is Clayton to Raton. Love that scenery. Wildlife. Lots of pronghorn, saw elk on the Raton pass, mule deer. Second favorite part of the drive is from Colorado Springs to Breckenridge. Third best part of the drive is from Silverthorne to Steamboat Springs. Lots of wildlife typically.
Man, that drive from Clayton to Raton, while beautiful is a PITA with all of the safety corridors.

CO Springs to Breck is one of my favorites. I have a couple of communities there off 24 I am monitoring fairly regularly for a nice acre or two for a retirement/seasonal cabin.

Jealous. Probably been 15 years since I've been to big Sky. I could also access more of the mountain now as well. Getting back there for a trip is on my ski bucket list.
Can definitely tell it's spring break here at keystone although still calmer than any given Saturday.

Same something around Alma would be awesome.

Skiing with kids is risky business. It can make you love skiing for life or swear you'll never do it again.

Expensive but the best money we ever spent. The kids learn, they enjoy skiing, and the parents also still enjoy skiing.

yeah we love ski school despite the exorbitant cost. I think of it as super expensive babysitting with a huge added benefit.

it is somewhat satisfying to reminisce the old days of spending exorbitant amounts of money to send your little ones to ski school when you're at the peak and your (now) teenagers are begging you follow them as they drop down a cliff into the trees on some backside bowl.

What is considered expensive for ski school including lift ticket and rental? $200? $500? $700?

When I was looking earlier this year the prices varied alot from resort to resort. I tried to find a place where the school was highly rated from various ski media reports and Parent reviews, but wasn't going to cost me more than flight, rental car, and hotel combined.

One day at Beaver Creek with an Epic discount was $380. It's a hair cheaper for older kids.

Yeah I would say $400/day for one kid in a group lesson is pretty typical

We did full day privates this year in copper for 3 days and it was ~$1250/day for an ages 4-7 instructor. The rate is flat regardless of whether you put one or six kids in the lesson (max is 6 for full day, 4 for half). So if anyone is traveling with family and has kids similar ages definitely something to look into. I will say, we had a 4 and 5 year old with one instructor this year and they absolutely took off with the individualized attention

We did 6 years of lessons for our kids at Steamboat. On average it was about $350 per kid for full day. Plus tip of 20% at the end. We would buy them as a package 6 months out. Includes condo, lift tickets and rentals. That got us a 30% discount. They had a mid-level (not group and not private) option that maxed at 5 kids. More often than not, it was only our kids or maybe 3. So basically private for a reduced cost. Also, full day would finish at 2pm or so and the family could ski together for an hour or so.

This is our build: https://driveovp.com/collections/mazama-layout/products/heilman. Like our actual van.

I rip one of the captains out if we take the labrador with us. But stock, sits 4/sleeps 4 pretty comfortably; but still small enough to fit in most parking spots if you hang your ass over a sidewalk. We've putted up hundreds of fire roads, but I'm not "overlanding" it. It does have 33" Wildpeaks with a 1" lift; we'll go KO3s next.

Sleeping (ref) the bed lowers from the ceiling. The bottom couches have partitions to span the gap and convert it into a full bed as well (sleeping mode).

We have a stowable induction stove and an air fryer that runs off the batteries (10kwh of Ecoflow). The cabin has a diesel heater (Rixen, best in the bizz) that also provides hot water to the sink and full shower. Large cassette toilet for the girls (rest of the world for the dog and I). Two panels on top, but a second alternator provides most of the regen to the batteries. Two hour drive and we're topped off. Starlink installed and it's wicked fast! Small fridge and freezer and not near enough storage. I added a Roam box on top and a Flatline cargo carrier on the back (skis or bikes).

Let me know if you have any questions. It's been the best time and memory investment ever!

Let's see the new truck! Also, Rips, any beta on how you mounted, factory line or fore/aft? Did you detune at all?

Ski school for 3 the last 5 years has cost a small fortune. The 9 year old is the only one not currently running laps around dad who definitely grew up a flat lander. I love watching their fearlessness on the mountain.

My goal was to make my kids better skiers than I am. I'm pretty good. They have now passed me by. Last year I took them on their first double black run and told them it was probably my last. This year I did not do a double black, and they probably did 10 or 12 double black chutes. At ages 17 and 14. I also really wanted my daughter to be a great skier ahead of high school and college ski trips. I want her to lap the boys. She can. Goal accomplished. I'm 53. I can ski most anything but I prefer not to work but enjoy skiing. Plus the risk tolerance is dropping as the injury recovery looms. I want to ski into my 70's.

Same and same.

I skied with a friends in-laws for an afternoon last week. Buddy's FIL was 75 and was getting around the mountain really well with his grandkids. I hope to be able to stand up straight at 75…..

Thanks. We did group lessons at Snowbasin and it was $320/day all in for the 5 year old and a little less for the 7 year old. Class size was about 4-6 kids. I thought it was a good deal. Maybe because a friend told me to go to Deer Valley. Their lessons were double the cost.

Met a dude on the lift today who's 81 and still skiing. Hell I'd be thrilled to make it to my 60s. I was asking him if resorts still did free lift tickets for old folks but apparently they don't really do that anymore.

2 days at winter park, lift ticket included was $274/day. Pretty good deal. Full day (9-3pm) with meals and snacks.

She had a blast the last two days. Still not sure how good of a skier she'll eventually be. She doesn't have the killer instinct to go jump off a ledge. Skiing may never be her thing.

Still too young to tell and I'll keep dolling out thousands for her because there are fewer things I want in life than to be able to ski with my kids (boy is 11 months and an absolute dare devil) and golf with my kids. Hunting is on that list too but there's only so much money and time.

Doesn't have a shower? Single room in there with the toilet? By cassette toilet you mean no black tank?

You're ****ting in the bushes? ******* man.

I truly have no idea what any of those phrases mean on mounting/tuning. They were mounted by the ski shop at what I assume is the standard mount. Marker griffons.

No tune or retune over factory on the bottom. I wouldn't even know what to do.

Only real feedback I can give someone is they're fast as hell, almost too fast.

We're supposed to get snow today and will be headed out tomorrow on the hill to see how they perform in some powder.

Think ive maybe convinced my wife that she needs skis. When I was returning her and the kids rentals I commented on how f'ing heavy her rentals were.

She's skied three days each of the last few years but I think she's finally starting to get it. I didn't actually ski with her at all this trip because I missed a day and a half with a bug and I was chasing the kids while she continues to figure it out. But I want to let her continue to progress (and get her hooked with more gear so we HAVE to keep skiing).

I'm thinking a lighter ski, maybe something with a low 80s waist. Starting to look around before the wave passes her. Was looking hard last summer and she told me she didn't want skis.

We had our daughter in Kinder Kamp at Schweitzer Fri-Sun last year from December-February. Cost ended up being comparable to daycare rates per week and included 2 2hr ski sessions each day. She was 5 at the time and it was her 2nd year skiing. I enjoyed it because I would work from the lodge on Fridays and got to ski 3 day/week. We didn't have the best experience with the instructors, but she learned a lot.

Obviously not an option if you don't live close to a slope. I think half day 1 on 1 lessons at Schweitzer are around $3-350 and a full day was closer to $600. Assuming we don't relocate, we'll likely put our youngest (soon to be 4) in a couple of 1 on 1 lessons next season and then the following year she'll be able to start the ski racing devo program, which has phenomenal coaching. Next year, I'll spend a lot of time on the bunny slope with her. Hoping to get my wife skiing as well but it's been difficult having one kid who is not old enough yet, and a wife who has only downhill skied once 12 years ago.

My Grandpa (born in 1928) skied until he was 88. The only reason he stopped is because he had a hard time getting on and off the lifts.

He always like to brag to people on the mountain that he rode on the first rope tow and chairlift in Colorado. My parents still have the skis he used at Berthoud Pass in the 40s.
