The Tesla Cybercab achieves this glossy finish without a paint shop in its production line.
— Nic Cruz Patane (@niccruzpatane) April 24, 2026
Instead, Tesla injects color directly into the plastic panels during injection molding. This eliminates the need for a paint shop entirely, which in turn speeds up production while… pic.twitter.com/YJcc9U9iO9
Elon emphasized that the Cybercab goes far beyond revolutionary car design - its manufacturing process is equally transformative.

He noted we probably don't talk about that enough.
The Cybercab line doesn't look like a normal car manufacturing setup at all.
Instead it… pic.twitter.com/1O4SwCCAS8

Random question, but has anyone else noticed that the lock chime is much quieter after the latest update? I have a custom one in mine, and after the update, you can barely hear it. I tried to amplify the clip itself and then reinstall, and it worked marginally better. It's like they nerfed it or something.

I actually feel like mine got louder.

do yall use a standard sound or a custom one?
Tesla FSD amazed me yet again. It noticed the large trailer so it didn’t pull all the way up to the line after this car went. Then it realized that the trailer was t going to swing wide enough so it REVERSED to make way, then shifted over to get clear. This is AWESOME! #fsd pic.twitter.com/sFZe5xZmJc

I don’t think people realize how revolutionary the Tesla Cybercab is.

Everything about this vehicle is optimized for purely for autonomy at scale.

Really don't see a need for anything over 350 kW for cars/crossovers and 500 kW for trucks/SUVs in terms of power. That's ~10 minutes of sustained charging for an 80% charge. 120v 15a at your residence is enough charge for a normal person to go a month or more without having to public charge. Then a single fast charge session gets you back to full in <10 minutes. Three 350 kW chargers is better than 1MW charger. Road trip charging for a 10 minute stop is more than fast enough.
What 1 MW charging does is convince people that "it's just the same as gas" to get them to buy it, but in actual use it's overkill. Wildly unnecessary for Cybercab.

FSD is great foryoungerfemale drivers as well.Daughter had multiple accidents in recent years, she leased a Model Y with FSD and loves it. It is safer and her insurance is cheaper.
At least 15 more glossy & deep gold Cybercabs at the Giga Texas outbound lot today, with more working their way over from the main factory.

My guess: For a while, a large portion of Cybercabs will still be built with a steering wheel.
— Genma_Jp (@nymbusjp) April 29, 2026
Why?
They can only run fully unsupervised (no steering wheel) inside the current geofence where unsupervised Model Ys are already operating. That area simply isn’t big enough to… https://t.co/Agt0N92zfi

Tesla FSD brakes for an invisible van 👀
— Kees Roelandschap (@KRoelandschap) April 30, 2026
Just two guys casually talking while being driven around by FSD.. we thought: HUH?!
Why would it stop, ah ofcourse FSD already saw what two Human Pilots failed to recognize.

FSD 14.2.2.5 stopped for a police officer who was assisting in a fallen branch and directing traffic.

Cybercabs are testing in multiple different cities, not just Austin. The steering wheels are an after production bolt on, and they are producing both vehicles with steering wheels and without. The ones with steering wheels are stamped engineering prototype on the side have the dash completely ripped apart and steering wheel/pedals installed.
Some people on X misinterpret it as the actual production vehicle, but close up shots make it pretty clear it's just a convenience for internal test vehicles so they don't have to control it with a phone or some other device.
Geofence area is self imposed as far as I'm aware. NHTSA, I don't believe, isn't involved in that restriction. Austin is at some level, but I don't believe they're the source of the current size meaning they can expand when they want.
Unsupervised service expanded to Houston and Dallas last week with a small number of cars. Generally think they're of the mind that they don't want to expand the service too wide/large until the CyberCab production is nailed down and the model has been thoroughly validated to fit camera positions of the CyberCab.🚨 Tesla just added another unsupervised Model Y Robotaxi in Dallas & Houston
