Yeah. This was much less about getting into dangerous positions; rather that was just not ripping in some shots and seeing what happens.

Correct. We were really good until we scored and then after that it was garbage. That comes down to either a lack of focus or nerves. ManU weren't afraid to go after the middle of the field and they had a bit of luck as well. Hopefully this wakes us up.
I thought the changes at halftime would supercharge our attack, minus Gyk, but we didn't get much out of them. Eze has to do a better job defending.

I continue to be amazed at the lack of urgency this team has. They started out the better team, but wasted so much of that by just passing it around without trying to score. And then even down a goal, in stoppage time, Ben White is taking an age to take throw ins. To me, it looks like they are waiting for some algorithm Arteta has drilled into their brains to play out, rather than trying to make the play happen.
And then I don't understand how a defense this good can be so stupid. Saliba got away with one, and then Zubimendi with what I'd like to say was the worst back pass I've ever seen, but in truth, these things happen so often in the sport now, it's probably nowhere close. Please, let all managers get together, watch a highlight reel of the stupid goals teams create for their opponents, and then collectively agree to ban building from the back.

I was thinking the same thing - how does such a strong defending group make the fatal mistake of allowing MU to play to its one real strength, transition game. After getting the 1-0 lead, lock it down and play smart. We know there are issues scoring goals but I never figured defending would fall apart like it did. Such a frustrating match in terms of playing with discipline.
I would like us to go back to playing Merino up top at this point

An example of when we actually did attack with some pace....and made the wrong choice twice. Nice work to get Rice free, and he has some great options in Trossard and Saka (or shooting himself), and he plays wide to Saliba? And then Saliba plays it back to him rather than firing it across to try and pick out Saka. Even if the defenders cut it out, Trossard and Rice are well positioned for a rebound. But the defender was too well positioned for the cut back to Rice to lead to anything
Watching that live I was pulling my hair out when Rice passed wide instead of a thru ball to Saka between the 2 CBs. Saka is already making the correct run. Just have to pass it straight forward for Saka to run onto
Midfield is just overly cautious and controlling which slows us down so much
Today's match was a good example of why you can't really blame gykores for his struggles. Jesus looked exactly like gykores has. Arsenal really struggle to get the striker involved. You can't blame them because they don't really get service.
I still have faith we can win the title, but this squad really needs a mental reset. The defense has really gone downhill over the last month. I'd like to have Zubi sit for a bit to rest and play Rice at the 6. Let Eze and Odegaard have some time together and see if they can get some quick offense going.
Play the reserves this mid week and then they really need to come out firing Sunderland next weekend. They need that energy that they had against Villa last month. You're trying to win a damn title. I don't see how that doesn't fire you up every time you step on the field

Maybe, but unlikely. VG scored about a million goals last season. Jesus was really good for City. I think they're both good strikers, I just don't think arteta's tactics get them involved or create chances.

The handball with the goal is definitely an issue. The other is a big bag of nothing. If Arsenal was punished for a similar handball, I'd be pissed.

The funny thing is, and I totally agree with you, was the only time I remember seeing a handball given for a player that sliding down like that was Keiran Gibbs about 15 years ago

United fan. But, I'm going to tell you. No one knows what a handball is anymore. It's not consistent across leagues, european comps, FIFA comps, MLS comps, etc. It's the only rule in football that constantly gets "reinterpreted".
Apparently, there were at least 3 other instances across the PL this weekend, where fan people were asking the same question. What is a handball?
Based on how I have heard it explained, Maguire's wasn't a handball under the current interpretation. But, I'd also say, does that not just encourage defenders to slide and throw a hand down to catch themselves every time when they are really just making themselves bigger?

Of course defenders have or will try to "naturally" put their arm in position to stop the ball or otherwise always have it out rather than closer to the body. VAR just need to be willing to review it and see if they believe it is intentional.
I am NOT saying Maguire was being intentional. But you can certainly see the opportunity to be intentional about it.

That was a poor first touch. Was a little lucky to be playing a really poor defense. If he can clean up the 1st touch he could end up blowing up the scoring leader board.
