Just finishing up watching it on replay. Shocked at how many changes we made! Harriman-Annous, well done! Not sure we quite see this again though given how shaky things were at times.

Dowman's gotta find ways to get the shot or pass off a little earlier before he's closed down, but he was really bright.

Glad to Ben White get good minutes. I hope we can keep him involved so he won't leave this next summer.

Kepa was good. Great to have that quality on the bench and I feel like you gotta play him in this and the FA Cup unless it just goes wrong at some point. Maybe he gets Kairat Almaty in the Champions League.

Very interested to see where the cram the QF match against Crystal Palace into the schedule. The QF round is supposed to happen the week of December 15th. We have a match against Wolves on the 13th and Everton on the 21st.

Crystal Palace do not have that midweek open. The have PL matches on the 14th and 21st as well as a UEFA conference league game on the 18th. There is surely no way that they force Palace to play 2 midweek matches on Tuesday and Thursday to cram it into that week. Both of us have European matches in the middle of the prior week.

The week after that is open because Christmas is on that Thursday. Usually they never have teams play on Christmas or Christmas Eve but it really seems to be the only option. There simply aren't any gaps in an extremely congested fixture schedule.

The Semi Final 1st leg is on Jan. 12th.

I'm definitely starting to agree with the group of people that suggest that European teams shouldn't be involved in the EFL Cup.

If we win that, I believe we'd have to play two EFL games in January as well, which is also busy with UCL games. It's just not worth it, in my opinion.

disagree. we have a deep enough squad now that we can afford to stay in multiple competitions and while the EFL isn't super prestigious it a) provides minutes for guys that are otherwise not playing a ton and b) gets the team pumped up to win more. the EFL final is typically in March. lifting a trophy in Mar can/could provide a bit of euphoria that encourages the team the extra needed push to wrap up the league and make the UCL final.

I agree with the first part but if we don't win the league or UCL, will the EFL make the season a success or be an encouraging step? I don think it does.

I also worry about injuries holding us back in the league and UCL.

I also recognize that I might be oversimplifying the situation.

We are plenty deep enough to play the kids for the EFL competition. It's a great chance for them to develop.

They need to get rid of the home-and-home semifinals.


If Madueke and Odegaard are both back with the team and ready to start getting minutes, and it sounds like they might be, that December match might be annoyingly strong for those who are worried about adding more games to the fixture list.

Kepa, White, MLS, Noorgaard, Odegaard, Nwaneri, Martinelli, Madueke, and Merino gives you most of the makings of a top-half of the table Premier League squad.

Carabao Cup quarterfinal with Crystal Palace scheduled for 8pm London time on Tuesday, December 23rd.

Have a 2pm match at Everton scheduled for December 21.

Our League Cup match with Crystal Palace has been moved to Dec. 23rd. We play on the 21st against Everton and then the 27th against Brighton.

I like how what was originally CP's scheduling problem has now become a problem for us instead. Seems totally fair.

I don't think there was any way they were going to schedule it the week before due to their schedule. And it is probably good for all of us that that doesn't become precedent.

Mikel Arteta on Gyökeres' injury: "I'm concerned because he hasn't had many muscular issues. He had to leave the pitch & he was feeling something, that's never a good sign, especially for a player that is very explosive. We are digging in a little more to understand the injury."

I'm sure it's typical muscle sprain/strain stuff. We have to expect a guy built like a linebacker (especially playing at the front) is going to miss some time here and there. Soccer bodies aren't meant to carry that much mass. He looks a lot more badass while doing it though.
