Dang. Unbelievable the injury run we've had this season. Absolutely crazy. Hopefully the rumors about Ben and Kai being on the bench and available today are true. We need them.

I'm convinced at this point that the Invincibles season cursed us and we are never going to win another title. We legitimately lose on player to injury per match
I honestly don't know what the answer is. Its a lose-lose situation for the club in terms of rotation. We are trying to win a title so you put your best players on the pitch. Currently the best players are not killing off games so they are having to go hard for 90+ minutes. If Arteta takes a Rice or Saka off and we lose, people are calling for his head for taking off the best players. If he doesn't take them off, they eventually get hurt and miss time, which again leads to people calling for his head.
I'll also say that players are not as well conditioned as they were in the past due to the insane match schedule. They build fitness in preseason, but once the season starts that tends to plateau. We enter the cycle of match->recovery->match->recovery and there is not time for the body to actually build.

Unlucky timing, but this sounds like a one-game injury and not one of these total breakdowns we've seen with guys like Ben White. And Rice was nonetheless dressed and with the squad today, so who knows, maybe he can be on the bench.

Not really. He sat out against Brugge, came on late against CP and we had a mid-week break. He plays a lot but we have rotated him some.

Well, he's played in 26 matches, tied with Merino for most. And played 1928 minutes, only 3 minutes behind Zubimendi for most amongst not-David Raya.
He's had a little rotation recently, especially with the EFL matches, but definitely played a lot in a demanding position.
But hopefully this is just a little thing and not really a sign of something breaking down due to all the playing time.
Minutes and appearances really don't tell the whole story for Rice.Every game he plays for us, he leads the team in distance covered as well. He and Merino might both play a full 90, but Rice will often cover one and a half times the distance that Merino does over that period.
I do have to agree that it feels like we are running him into the ground. Why buy Norgaard if we're never going to play him?
