Liverpool's defense has been poor all season.

I'm not worried about the defense. I'm worried about their control of games and a plan of attack. The midfield has struggled all year to put their stamp on games, and we give the ball away in the midfield or in bad spaces at an alarming rate. Which is also a part of the offense having no identity or teeth.

I think on an individual basis the defending is more of less fine, but we put them in awful positions because we have no clue what to do in midfield.

He came in at the 84th minute down 1-0. They had nothing to lose and got the goal back. Their last goal shouldn't have even happened with it being well past a minute plus past extra time.

But we could have easily given up 6 goals and we are giving up about 2 goals a game. Our D is horrendous.

Agree with all that too. We are a collection of talent out there and not a cohesive team with an identity or plan of attack. We give the ball at an alarming rate. Wirtz is a bad fit so far and not sure what to do with him. Could go on and on …but we still have won all but one game. But all the issues are there and at some point we weren't going be the ones scoring in the final minute.

Agree on Wirtz. He's not a bad player whatsoever, but he's a poor fit with this team at the moment.

Funny enough though I still think he's actually the type of player this team needs to really go to the next level. They need a creative force in the final third, and that's Wirtz, but they are not set up to utilize him like that. He needs to be the focal point of this team and he's not. Thus he's being wasted.

That was just an absolute garbage performance from most of the squad. Lots of sloppy touches, misplaced passed and standing and watching. Several moments where it looked like someone just unplugged the controller. Kerkez, Gravy, Ibou, VVD, Mo, Isak, Jones, Macca, Wirtz, Chiesa, Frimpong, and Rio all had several WTF moments. Hugo obviously didn't play, but his red card in the previous game basically fit the collective theme for today. We honestly should have lost by more than one goal, but Allison saved our asses so many times.

In my opinion the team really misses Lucho Diaz. We need at least one player who will drive at the defense, cause chaos and work for his teammates. Hugo has largely filled that role, but we don't really have anyone else who is playing like that right now.

Completely agree on Diaz. Big loss there. He was the one guy that could create and push on his own. It would open up space and opportunities. And he would track back on D and really helped the midfield out there. We don't have that now. Rio has the skill but just not ready yet.

I think Liverpool has to commit to a style of play first and foremost. What's the plan for the fullbacks? What's the plan for Wirtz and the No. 10? What's the plan in the midfield? What's the plan up front?

We just have so many questions that need to be an answered. We've got the players now just need to put the right ones together.

I think we'll be alright. No one really looks all that great imo. Again, just have to commit to a style of play and fit the players to that. I think we need to go back to a pure 4-3-3, especially with Wirtz and now two pretty legit, out and out No. 9s. I don't think our player personnel this year really fits a 4-2-3-1. Not saying it's the only problem, but one of the main ones.

With Chelsea on the horizon I'm going to say we rotate a bit. I'll go with Ekitike up front, Jones in midfield, Frimpong at RB and Robo at LB. Perhaps Slot give Gomez some run beside VVD and give Konate at least part of the night off. I think it cold be good to give Gomez some more meaningful game reps even though it's risky injury wise. Ultimately though I just want to see a different mentality team. Be decisive, aggressive and get the ball out of your feet.

Salah on the bench; Jones, Wirtz, Szbo and Gravenberch in. I gotta feeling we're going to see Dom at RM/RW unless Slot uses Frimpong there as well, which he could.

I don't think I realized how good of a spine the Galatasaray team have (Osimhen, Gundogan, Lemina, Torreira, Davinson Sanchez). I mean, it's not the best team ever, but they're not going to be a push over either, especially when they can call on Icardi and Leroy Sane from the bench.

My eyeballs hurt watching us try to do anything fluid. Teams press us like a MOFO, we can't accept or get a pass off cleanly, every touch is elephantine. Now Alisson and Ekitike are both hurt.

This team isn't working.

And now Ekitike hurt.

If we aren't passing back and forth and going backwards, we can't keep the ball.

I still wholeheartedly think that the root of all of our problems stems from the midfield having been awful for pretty much every game. Now, why it's been awful can be up for debate, but that's the reason imo. I think Slot and his tactics are a huge reason behind it, but there's also been some shockers to start the season (hello Mac Allister).

Losing on a pen like that is some real BS, but Slot better get his head out and start to adjust to the players he has this year. The formation and tactics DO NOT WORK with this group.

Isak touched the ball 4 times. Nothing is working at the moment. From the back to the front, no creativity, nothing. And it's getting worse. We got away with it for most of the first 6 games but the problems were there.

Another aspect of this team that I think is abysmal right now is the press. Not only does it look like they don't know how, it looks like they have no plan. It's a half assed press, and a half asses press doesn't do a damn thing. I'd like to see us go back to a 4-3-3 or even a 44-2 and utilize the guys more like Klopp. At least then you are creating chances by turning teams over.

We also desperately miss Trent as much as it pains me to say. We have no one to break lines right now. We tried to today but that sure didn't work. Mac Allister is the only one who I think can, but that's now how we use him.

Last thing I'll add; with how attack oriented Gravenberch looks this year, would you stick Mac Allister at the 6 full time? Reason being I think he's probably the only guy with real long distance passing ability on this team. Grav really is playing an 8, and tbh the other midfielder is also pretty much playing an 8. So what if you stuck Maca at the 6 full time?

Alisson out with a Hammie for about six weeks. Pretty standard for him unfortunately. Glad we bought Giorgi.

Time to turn things around.
