Geez....he was taking a road trip with his brother back to Liverpool. He was advised not to fly after he had a procedure on his lungs. He was driving to catch a ferry to the UK and they were going to drive to Liverpool where preseason training begins on Monday. So sad.

Here.

So devastated for his family and the team. Just so hard to fathom.

Devastating, shocking loss. If ever someone seemed untouchable, it'd be a recently twice crowned champion only a week after his wedding. What cruel timing.

Diogo was one of my favorite LFC players. He seemed like such a normal guy. A normal guy who could score goals in extraordinary fashion. He was a tremendous spark for us coming off the bench these last few seasons.

The love coming from across the footballing world has been awesome. Special community. I can't imagine how hard this is on Diogo & Andre's family.

Unfortunate, but they have to turn their heads to soccer again. They have pre-season games on the horizon and they still have moves that need to be made. Maybe playing some ball will help them out in this situation.

Random, Andy Carroll to 6th tier Dag & Red

Apparently new Qatari ownership. Next powerhouse in the EPL?

Happy beginning of season day. Mix of first steamers, backups and kids. Wish I could watch it. Also I love Deepdale.

The guys I would really keep an eye on in this entire preseason run-up would be Ngumoha, Nyoni and whoever is playing the 9. Now that Jots is gone (I hate saying that), they have major questions up top and I wonder if one of the young kids will do enough to make a real impression. Ngumoha and Nyoni I think most of us know are the real deal, it's just a matter of when it's their time to be in the first team squad.

Got to watch, although wasn't fully focused. Great tributes to Jota as you would expect. Fans sang his song for a lot of the match. As for the game, it was your typical preseason affair and for the first one after like 3 training session

Ngumha is electric and smooth with ball of course. Woodman in goal looked good, Marma as well but didn't have to do much.

Nunez actually finished with a goal! Gakpo and Bradley scored as well off some good movement.

All I got for any type of analysis on a presason friendly

Really nice moment for Jota before the match today. Very classy from Preston and their supporters.

I will have to scour the internet for more highlights, but there was a Rio compilation posted and he looks very impressive. Interested to see some video of Kerkez, Frimpong, and Nyoni too.

Hopefully getting on the field and playing again was a form of therapy for everyone. Im sure there were a lot of emotions flowing.

I also got to watch a bit of it. Some of my takeaways were: 1) I can't wait for these awful Nike uniforms to GTFO, 2) Ngumoha is electric on the ball in tight spaces and constantly creating space, and 3) Kerkez is going to be an absolute weapon flying up around Gakpo and beyond.

Kerkez reminds me a little of the way Hakimi plays. Just marauding around up and down the field. You'll find him in the box scoring a goal, running back tracking guys, and just endlessly running. Hakimi is a very pretty, graceful fast runner, while Kerkez is a little more violent and stout. So beyond excited for him.

On Ngumoha; idk what's left for him in the youth academy. He's just on another level for guys like that imo. Maybe he might benefit from a loan stint to a championship team or better, but I think he's pretty close to being a squad player and the ceiling to be special.

Got to see the game this morning thanks to a free moth trial of All Red Video. I'm about to watch the Alisson documentary on there now.

I can see why they chose to go forward with the matchup. It was healthy for us all. Loved all the Diogo tributes and getting to sing his song along with the fans.

Really excited to see Kerkez and Frimpong more. Plus we still get a first look at Wirtz soon. Salah is a complete animal. Never seems to take a game off. He's like Cal Ripken Jr out there. What a legend.

Chelsea is going to be absolutely insufferable with this club World Cup BS. I'm not looking forward to it. Not one single person actually believes they are the best team in the world.

Looking like it will be a chaotic end to the transfer window.

Konate, Nunez, Diaz, Doak, Elliot all potentially leaving

Guehi, Mateta, Isak, Ekitike potentially inbound.

I'm sure more names will emerge as outbound sales continue to develop.

It's absolutely insane what's going on right now. The Konate situation is disgusting, and I want him gone tomorrow if he's not going to sign a new deal and head to Madrid. F MADRID. They are a plague on football right now and they need to be stopped.

Diaz needs to be sold as well but they aren't going to sell him for a penny less than 75-80 million, and also have a replacement of equal caliber.

We'll need replacements of equal caliber for both of the above guys I should add, so idk what's going to happen. That's a lot of money spent and turnover in one offseason.

Then you move to this Liverpool/Newcastle, Isak/Ekitike situation, where Liverpool have now made an official bid for Isak, but they will be the favorite for Ekitike if Newcastle decide to not sell Isak. This is just weird lol.

I have no clue how any of this is going to end up.

I think the problem with Konate is it's effectively a marketplace of two teams that would be in for him. And the delta between what Liv would want (40?), what Madrid would pay (20?) and what a good replacement would cost (70?) doesn't make the math work.

Anfield wrap made the point this morning that Konate has apparently been swatting back the rumors of the Madrid which is very different from a certain other player last season.

If konate leaves on a freebie next summer I'm assuming we will just replace him with Guehi on a similar freebie deal.

Madrid is trying to poach a bunch of our players on a freebie, but they seem fixated on two that are injury prone. TAA already picked up a hamstring injury during the CWC and Ibou tends to pick up knocks as well.... probably one of the reasons we have been slow to re-up their contracts. Madrid maybe having a ton of fun at our expense at the moment, but it could easily bite them in the ass.

Ekitke expected to happen now. This proceeded fast in the last 24 hrs.

Diaz to Bayern seems to be picking up as of yesterday (and surely more so now Im guessing) and Liverpool with more serious talks for Rodrygo.

Crazy transfer window, with massive turnover potential as already mentioned.

I personally never believed for a second Isak was going to happen unless Liverpool dropped an ungodly amount of money, which $120M still is imo, but im talking if Liverpool offered $150M+. Only Messi, Ronaldo and a handful of players throughout the years are really worth $100M+, but I digress. There was just no way Newcastle was going to sell one of the world best No. 9's to one of their chief rivals, ESPECIALLY as they were set to play Champions League football for the second time in basically 25 years.

Now, with that being said, I do expect Ekitke to happen in short order. My guess is that they want him on the plane (or on a plane shortly after they leave) for their upcoming Asian tour. On the player, I like him and think he would be an upgrade, however, I do find it hard to believe that a guy with his relative inexperience is going to be purchased for $80M+. Some risk here imo, but glad to have a No. 9 in the boat if it happens. Next bit of business is that Liverpool really need to start offloading a few guys. Feels like the squad is getting a little bloated.

It's interesting that all of the defender talks have completely stalled. Maybe waiting to complete the attacking transfers and see what money is left to spend? It's also interesting that the Robbo and Tsimikas transfer talks have stalled. It sounds like they had Robbo playing as a center half on Sunday? I guess they technically have the bodies to compete this year, but I would be disappointed if we didn't leave this window with a fairly high level CB or a Konate contract extension.

From what I have read the Konate situation is all over the freaking place. Yes Madrid are interested and 100% tampering, but unlike TAA I don't think Konate is 100% out the door and dead set on moving to Madrid. I truly think if Liverpool gave him 200K a week like what he wants, he would probably sign the extension. I also get the sense that Liverpool are playing hard ball here and simply making him wait until they truly open up talks again.

I think Andy is staying until his contract runs out from a Liverpool perspective. We need guys back there, and Tsimikas really isn't an ideal player at this level outside of his set-piece delivery, which is elite.

Ekitke is a done deal for 69 million pounds... Liverpool spending more than I've ever imagined this window. Somewhere Klopp is wondering why he never got this kind of bankroll.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I think we're seeing tons of money spent this offseason for a few reasons: 1) it's the summer before a World Cup and a lot of guys who are contemplating that big move probably want to do it now rather than next summer, so that makes a lot of dudes available, imo; 2) Liverpool was really at a crossroads of sorts this season/offseason in terms of needing to really turn the roster over; 3) Liverpool had an absolute war chest from previous years to blow.

I think if Klopp stayed they would've spent for him too. It was juts time to turn to roster over to some extent, with some guys just not working out, quite a few guys getting older, etc. Then lastly you add that they spent almost 0.00 last summer, and you get this summer. The stars really just aligned to spend crazy cash imo.

I have been watching some of the breakdowns of Ekitike the last few days and his ball carrying ability and link up play have me really excited. He should fit in really nicely with Wirtz and Salah.

Need to add some CB depth and sort out whatever is happening with Diaz and call this window an A+.

Guess next order of business is to see what will happen with Luis Diaz.

Diaz feels as good as gone, they're just trying to get the price they think they deserve. I think if they are offered 75 they'll take it.
