I've been reading a lot over the last few days about the Mo Salah situation from various former players, journalists, and pundits. I agree with some, disagree with others. And that's all fine & dandy, it's good to have differing views in a debate/discussion.
However, Jamie Carragher seems to have this real vendetta against Salah. To the point it is quite irritating. He criticizes him at every possible opportunity. He claims to love him and knows he is a club legend, but belittles Egypt and AFCON. Full disclosure, I've never really liked him so I may be going in a little to harsh on him. But I think he is an annoying loudmouth who is quite full of himself. Which I guess makes for a good pundit, but he just comes off to me as not a good person. I know everyone who doesn't like him brings up "the spitting incident" ad nauseum but I think that is a good snapshot of who he is when he thinks the cameras are not on. He comes off to me as someone who thinks he is better than he actually is. This isn't really relevant to the current criticism of him but in terms of Liverpool defenders, I don't think he cracks the top 10. (For the record, give me Emlyn Hughes, Ron Yeats, Tommy Smith, Mark Lawrenson, Phil Thompson, Alan Hansen, Sami Hyypia, Daniel Agger, Joel Matip, and VvD 8 days a week over him). Mohamed Salah, on the other hand, is a top 5 all-time Liverpool player (For the record, I think Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Ian Rush, Mo Salah, and John Barnes make up that list.)
He (and the rest of the pundits) are free to say whatever he likes. But him tweeting that he has never wanted Liverpool to get a win more than last night. And then rubbing everyone's noses in it with a "Get in!" is a step too far for me. I don't agree with how Salah went about his frustration [see previous post], but I also don't agree with Carragher's behavior. If we are going to call out players when they perform poorly, we should hold the former players making public comments to a similar standard when they act poorly as well.
Just my two cents. Had a few mins at work and wanted to see what everyone else here thinks of him and this situation.
