I think they are about the same as last year at this point, but their ceiling is higher with Belinelli and Mills this year. I think Leonard is the X factor. The Spurs desperately need a consistent scoring option behind Parker and Duncan. They have a lot of guys that are capable, but they lack consistentcy. It can be Ginoboli, Green, Leonard, Belinelli, or Diaw but it seems to be a different guy every game.

If Leonard keeps playing at this level and becomes a player other teams have to gameplan for then the Spurs are a whole different team.

As for whether or not they're better this year, I think the better question is, is the West better?

OKC is better, Houston is better, Dallas is better, Clippers are better, etc.

I think it will be a tougher road to the Finals, regardless.

Whichever team comes out of the west will be forged in fire but also tired as hell from the dogfight.

The east teams will cruise until the conference finals.

In order to keep the 1 or 2 seed they will have to rack up a bunch of wins against good teams in the last couple weeks. In the 8 games scheduled in April, the Spurs face: Golden State, OKC, Memphis, Minny, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston and the Lakers. That is a ridiculous end of the schedule.

To contrast the April schedule, the remaining March games are a bit easier. Out of the 11 games scheduled only 3 are against teams headed to the playoffs: tonight's contest against Portland, Golden State on the 22nd and Indiana on the 31st.

Hopefully the Spurs can take care of March and have a decent lead on the rest of the West as we head into April.

Houston wouldn't be easy but that's the best path to the WCF.


As long as we avoid Memphis and draw Dallas or Phoenix, our first round will look promising for a short series. I think we match up better with the Clips than Houston, but I think LAC has a better shot if knocking off OKC in the second round.

Yep. My dream/realistic scenario would be:

1.SA
2.OKC
3.Houston
4.LAC
5.GS
6.Portland
7.Memphis
8.Dallas/Phoenix

With 5/6/7 pretty much being interchangeable. Prob prefer it this way though.

I can't stand Joakim Noah, but holy crap he'd be amazing in Pop's system. His passing ability with all the cuts and movement the Spurs have would be something else.

Noah is one but think about Lebron in the system. He wants to pass and gets railed for it in the media. In the Spurs system he's just doing the right thing.

Lebron could fit in anyone's system since he's the best player in the world, but his unselfishness would certainly fit right in here.
