While I agree the fact is the Heat took the season sweep with us and we still almost won the whole thing.

The Rockets fans are looking for their team to make a leap and that means beating the best team in Texas for the last 15+ years. They can have their regular season victory but Pop taught us long ago that the regular season is just to get things warmed up for postseason play.

Defense is still the biggest thing holding the Rockets back. They've got two good rim protectors in Howard and Asik, but none of their perimeter guys can hold their own defensively. Offense will win you games in the regular season and can give you a punchers chance in the playoffs, but as we observed the year we got bounced by Memphis in the first round, being able to play strong D and get stops down the stretch is how you win series.

Still hurts. It's like an open wound, and thinking about it is like throwing salt in it.

This. Can't watch any replays of the last 25 seconds in regulation. Just can't.

I, for one, and extremely pleased with Manu's turnaround this season. He was downright awful last season and played a pretty big role in the losses to the Heat during the finals. This season he seems like he's playing much more within himself, and isn't trying to do things only 28 year old Manu could pull off. Tim is as steady as always, just another ho-hum double double. What's key for this year's team is now that everyone is healthy again, they seem to be playing much better defense than they were earlier in the season. If they can keep that up, they can beat anyone.

IMO the addition if Marco and the emergence of Patty Mills are the biggest reasons for Manu playing like the 6th man of the year. Marco and Patty can both do just enough creating an initiating the offense that Manu doesn't have to do it every single possession with the second unit, so he can play off the ball sometimes. Also, both of those guys move so well without the balll, that when Manu does attack the rim, they will more than likely be open and their shooting ability keeps the defense spread. The other factor is Manu is just healthier. He didn't spend all summer playing international ball, he had the one hamstring injury but he wasn't rushed back.

Really good post on Pounding the Rock on the basics of the Spurs off ball screens. There are so many reads and variations that can be done on the fly based on how the defender reacts, that I can't imagine trying to draw up a plan to defend all the screens, back cuts, and pick and rolls.

When the game is on both national tv and local tv, which broadcast do you watch?

I'm usually partial to our guys on Fox SW.

For a game like this, the local guys.

During the playoffs though I like to watch the national broadcast.

I always watch the local broadcast when I can, but I prefer the TNT halftime and post game show during the playoffs.

I like Simmons in written word and the occasional podcast, but he and Jalen Rose aren't any good in only 5 minutes of broadcast.

Lakers' defense is horrible. Even a bunch of scrubs should be able to make a better showing, at least for a quarter.

Hovering around 10 point lead in the first.

Not very much defense being played by either team right now.

Lakers with some hot shooting but seriously their defense is so bad.

If the second unit can get their own defense going we can wrap this up by halftime.

Outside of Kawhi and Tiago, no one is playing any kind of acceptable defense. Also settling for too many jumpers.

Scored 58 points but still feels like a piss poor game.

Still waiting for our defense to show up tonight... Gave up a dunk with the clock expiring to end the half. Really poor job of getting back.

That's because it is. We could easily be well over 60 and there is no effort on D.

Doris Burke and Avery Johnson are a terrible duo for halftime.

It wasn't pretty, but that's 11 in a row. Kawhi had 22 and 10 on 8/12 shooting. The Lakers D is awful, but he attacked and got to the rim all game long.

I am a fan of Simmons but he really got on my nerves tonight. I did love that every time he said something negative about a Spur, that player would make a play.

"Diaw does not need to shoot 3s" ... Diaw nails a 3.
"Kawhi hasn't taken that next step. He needs to play like the finals." ... Kawhi goes for 22 and 10. Shots 8/12.
"Tiago is severely over payed. No question." ... ESPN immediately shows a stat that says the Spurs are 37-0 when Tiago scores 7 or more points.

He did this all night. STFU Bill.

Simmons is great in writing, where he has plenty of time to research. On a live telecast, not so much. He's too specific on things he doesn't know very well. Needs to work on his mindless platitudes.

Diaw shoots 44% from three. That's 7th in the league. Who exactly DO you want shooting threes?

Leonard is averaging 15 and 8, shooting over 50% from the field, and may be the best perimeter defender in the game. Also, the Spurs are undefeated since he came back from injury. I'd say he's doing exactly what he needs to be doing.

If Kawhi played on some lesser team (like the Lakers) he'd average close to 20 a night.
