If you hate the company you work for, you could quit and sign on with a competitor whenever you like. You can't do this in professional sports because it can hurt the competitive balance of the league. This is completely out of sync with all capitalistic principles and therefore you can't think of sports as a normal industry. Based on their contractual configuration, the answer to your question is "both". Both the owners and the players run the league. Most sports owners aren't these wise businessmen you envision. Their product sells because of talent. If you removed the top 10% of nba talent, nobody would watch the league at all.
I'm kind of jealous the players get to work in an industry where they have so much input/power. In most industries, the talent that actually makes the product move has little voice while unconnected MBA jackasses make crap up.
Good post, except I don't hate Beltran any more than I hate Bagwell for juicing (which I don't... at all).. He was a great team guy and was too good at doing what every good team in the league was doing and he got made an example of. He was trying too hard.

BTW "Russ posts triple double but Wizards still fall", so everything is back in balance there. All we need to do is trade Harden to a team where he can do his empty stats thing and "carry" them to a 3rd place finish & 2nd round exit while we put together an actual team.

No Harden is bad for the NBA and they will bend over backwards to make sure the stars get to play no matter how idiotic they act. The post above that said that without the top 10% of players no one would watch the NBA is absolutely correct. It's also the reason this culture of entitlement has arisen both within the team and around the league. The players aren't stupid - they know how the money is made.
I'll be so happy when Harden is gone. Granted, he's an unbelievable scorer. But, I've never cared for his game. And His ambivalence absolutely kills me. Most elite players don't want to play with a guy that dominates the ball like Harden does on offense, and applies such minimum effort on defense. GMs fear he'll disrupt any team chemistry they have.
I find it odd the Heat haven't played Okpala yet. Could we target him in a trade? They could be interested in Tucker to give them a more defensive minded big. Olynyk also hasn't played so if they are buried on the depth chart maybe both for Tucker?
Looks like he'll be the only star on the court.

Wood vs Nurkic is not a good matchup. This is the type of game where you really miss Cousins.
