I really like a lot of the young pieces we have out there. They fought like hell last night to get back in it. Dipo might have upped his trade value a little bit too. Hope we see some good returns on trades this coming week.

I still maintain if this team stayed healthy and didn't have a million back-to-backs that it would be a solid playoff squad. But that ship has long sailed. Tanking is better for the long term success.

That short win streak after Harden left was my favorite basketball in years. It obviously faded, but I was completely willing to buy into a new look.
I'm more excited about the future even though we appear to be the worst team in the nba. If we get a top 4 pick we will have the makings of a legit rebuild. We were never going to win the title with Harden and Pringles. Thanks to them I've had my fill of mid playoff flameouts. I'm ok with a bottom out and this seems like the perfect time to do it. If we waited too long for this moment, we probably wouldn't have any of our own picks to tank with...it's now or never. Race to the bottom!
Based on injury rotations I think Stone and Silas were actually ahead of me on the tank. I think it's been amazing that we never have any of our good players healthy at the same time. It's almost like a planned tank.

The highlight of the move was obviously the draft picks, but a funny twist of the trade (or sad state of our team) is that DJ Augustin just became our best 3pt shooter. Via the trade and injuries, we have essentially replaced a 33% shooter (EG) for a 38% shooter (DJ). That's not good for the tank...
Won't we just flip Augustin?

He was averaging 20 min per game for a legit title contender so he might be worth something to someone. LAC need PG help. Others too I'm sure. Don't see him getting minutes here unless Wall is about to be traded. He's not great off the ball or defensively.

KPJ, Wood, and Tate are a solid foundation. IF they could secure the #1 pick and draft Cunningham, then do some work in free agency we might be closer to a short rebuild than I originally thought. Credit to Stone.canadiaggie said:

If the Rockets could get rid of the contracts of John Wall and Eric Gordon......there would be plenty of money for free agents.

I like KPJ but I'm not sold he's a franchise "star". He's young and has time to develop, but right now he seems like a good player on a really bad roster which inflates some of his value.
One other thing - Wood needs to tighten up his free throws. He's going to go to the line a lot because of his style of play. Would like to see him around 75-80% and don't see why he can't with his smooth shooting motion.

His vision is incredible for a 20 year old. Definitely needs more strength and to be a more consistent shooter. Kevin love called him the most talented player on the cavs. Cavs aren't great but they still have garland and sexton.

Agreed. If he can get the quality to match his quantity, he has real potential to be a star. That comes down to how much time does he want to invest in it to be great. He has the tools, but so do a lot of young players who don't reach full potential.

He could maybe be the glue guy 5th starter on the right team (Wood Cunningham KPJ) if his defense & three point shooting continue to improve, but he's already 26 - not your traditional rookie.
Anyway he's definitely not a cornerstone type of guy IMO and it makes me scratch my head a little that he's been mentioned with wood as the only two "untouchables".

This is the Rockets' best tank job in almost 40 years. I'm hyped for the draft for the first time since we got Yao. Back in 1984, they were 20-26 and then went 9-27 the rest of the way despite having rookies Ralph Sampson and Rodney McCray to finish 29-53 and luck into Hakeem at #1.
Fun Fact: The Pacers actually had the worst record that year but had traded their #1 pick for 1984 three years earlier to the Trail Blazers for a stiff named Tom Owens who played 1 year for them and averaged 10.5 points per game. At worst they would have had the #2 pick and the chance to draft Jordan (or Sam Bowie)

I'm curious how Silas' reputation will be impacted from the tank. Is he a scape goat? Is he perhaps just not a good coach? Is he pulling strings to make the losses happen? Some combination of the three?

I still question if Oladipo really thinks he's getting a max contract from anyone. From what I've seen and impression I've got is he's a 2-3rd guy on the team at best. I haven't looked up his stats with us, but seems most nights he's shot a poor percentage and isn't exactly a distributor. Honestly, I'm relieved he turned down our contract extension.

I went to the game yesterday and was happy it was competitive. Had fun watching Wood play well even though KPJ didn't play a whole lot and didn't look great when he did. Wish that 3 had gone in to end it, we are going to have to win again at some point.
I took a minute to look up the previous franchise record of 17 games which came on 1968 as the san Diego rockets. They were humming along at 14-35 when they lost 17 straight, then beat the 76ers with Wilt Chamberlain, then lost 15 on a row to end the season. So 1-32 to end the season. The league was only 12 or 14 teams then and scoring was through the roof. Rockets scored 112 ppg and finished next to last in offense.
Going to be funny when the Rockets finish last and have to watch OKC use their #5 pick. All so they could rent Russell Westbrook for a few months.
