Don't forget big Papi with the 2 run dinger!

But yes, Lackey was the star tonight. Uehara made the bottom of the 9th interesting, but that started with Nap's booted ball.

Great first win of 14! I think I'm going to go to tomorrow nights game.

I don't recall, but how much did the Orioles pay Ubaldo?

40 something...the most for a FA pitcher since Scott Erickson.

Still don't get it.

4 for 48.

Its failed already. Stupid way to spend what little Angelos allows Duke to spend.

Ortiz's 432nd homer last night moved him ahead of the great cal ripken jr

Is this a late April fools joke? I'm betting that this will change by game time.

Gomes
Pedroia
Ortiz
Napoli
Bogaerts
Nava
Middlebrooks
Ross
Bradley Jr.

Pretty weird lineup for sure, but there really is nobody else to bat leadoff with Victorino out. Gomes has the ability to grind out an AB and has significantly higher splits against lefties than Nava does. WMB and Gomes are gonna have to have good days. Outside of the 2/3/4 guys this lineup is pretty weak otherwise.

I am happy they moved X up, I like this 3-4-5 a ton..I almost would rather see Pedroia/Nava/Ortiz/Napoli/X/Gomes though
Dropkicked Murphy

I'd rather see Carp in there against chen even with the lefty/lefty matchup than see Nava bat righty. When Victorino comes back, I expect to see him leadoff on days they face a lefty.

would've flipped WMB and Nava too. With RISP, WMB is more likely to K, but if he does connect the chances he goes yard or puts one in a gap are better than Nava

Sox just score again to increase the lead to 4-2.

Sox win 4-3, and take the 1st series of the year! David Ortiz is a machine..3 more hits tonight..Doubront was decent tonight, left a few pitches up, but he'll be fine, I was happy with how low he kept his PC the 1st few innings. AND WE FINALLY GOT A HIT WITH RISP!

Once again, I don't understand Farrell's motive here..why not leave X in the 5 hole??

oh and how about R.A. Dickey? Continuing to be garbage in the AL East to this point. The mets made out like bandits. Definitely hasn't even been worth the paper his new extension was printed on

this statement is still pretty valid overall. But it's funny today because he shut out the mfy for 6 and two-thirds.

Sox bats are silent today. Sox get swept in the first home series.

I chalked up the first game due to WS Celebration hangover. They'd been gone since February so I assumed there was lots of late dinners the night before, family outings etc.

Game 2 seemed more like they were in the swing of things. Bad results.

Today, they were just flat!

Actually, for Ubaldo, 4 earned is pretty good.

sorry token, 4 runs isn't "killin"

Sox with a quality win.

Lackey pitched through a jam and the hitters capitalized when necessary (especially on Ranger mistakes).

Interesting article on how the Sox farm system stacks up against the rest of the east: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2014/04/07/red-sox-minor-league-roundup-a-significant-advantage-in-the-american-league-east/

my favorite quote from ESPN's Keith Law:

quote:
On whether the Yankees have a homegrown successor to Derek Jeter: “I don’t know who he is. I can only tell you that he’s not currently in the Yankees organization. They do not have a major league shortstop anywhere in the organization, and you can interpret that as including Jeter if you want. … Up and down the system, there’s just nobody who profiles as an everyday shortstop. I’m not sure that they even have a quality backup in the system.”

That was a killing.

Wieters shot on an 0-2 pitch was fun.

Wow!

And more WOW!!!!

quote:
After Nick Markakis led off the game with a single, Young followed with a bouncer up the middle. Many shortstops in the majors could've turned it into a double play, but 39-year-old Derek Jeter couldn't quite get to it and the ball skipped under his glove for a single.

This could become an ugly turn of events for the Yanks if this season's loyalties, to one player, starts to go badly.

DouBront isn't good.

Whether he will be or not remains to be seen. Trade him or demote him.

And Farrell needs to talk about called 3rd strikes. Playing for walks is really getting exasperating.
