This lineup could use a Jeff Keppinger. Absolutely crushes lefties and could play 1B/3B. I don't know if there is one out there...

Or a Jed Lowrie. Oh wait...

Favorite Astro utility man..

A. Marwin Gonzalez
B. Jeff Keppinger
C. Mike Lamb
D. Jose Vizcaino
E. Eric Bruntlett
F. Tim Bogar
G. Bill Spiers

For me it's Bogar and Vizcaino.
Billy Spiers gets my vote although I think Casey Candaele deserves a mention. Certainly not as important of a cog as those you listed but was he certainly a fun part of some dismal 'Stros teams of the early '90s.

Cubs seem to be doing what the Dodgers did

Wow! He had a great season this year but that seems like a stretch! Cubs are going to be really good next year.

His hitting is nothing special, but he gets on base... Probably worth it for a 3-time gold glove winner.

Spiers for me. Lamb and Kepp tie for second. Bogar is at the bottom of my list but his arm was fun as hell to watch.

He was our neighbor when he played for Houston! The po po came to ask us if we saw anything when he had his domestic violence issue.

Spiers for me; he hit near .300 with Houston playing 5 positions regularly. I love late 90s baseball, I can sit on YouTube for hours getting caught up in these:

Good memory. I was at that game sitting in the outfield upper deck in the dome. Talk about a birds eye view.

Too bad the bats were shut down by Kevin Brown and freaking Sterling Hitchcock the rest if the series.. That was the best Astros team ever IMO.

Apparently Appell was in the Giles deal.

Mlbtraderumors:

SATURDAY 12:06pm: The Phillies have announced the trade. However, several components have changed. The Phillies will receive Velasquez, Oberholtzer, Eshelman, Mark Appel, and Harold Arauz. Derek Fisher, who was originally rumored to be headed to Philadelphia, is not part of the trade. The Astros will also receive infielder Jonathan Arauz from the Phillies.

Remember when we took Mark Appel instead of Kris Bryant? Remember that? REMEMBER THAT

Just stop.

I'm OK with the trade with VV and Appel being the main pieces. I'm sure Lunhow would've liked to get more for Appel but it just wasn't working out for him.

It'll be ok when #100MilesGiles strikes Bryant out swinging in Game 7 of the World Series.

The Cubs had Appel #1 on their board also.

The Phillies signed Arauz last year as a 16 year old international free agent for $600k. At that time, some scouts believes he was the best Panamanian international free agent. Looks like he's a switch hitting SS with gap power.

Not that I thought Appel was going to turn into much, but that is a whole hell of a lot. Figured Appel could be flipped for someone else if we needed trade deadline help.

VV, Appel, Obie, AND Eshelman? Jesus we are dumping pitching. Would have loved to keep Eshelman there.

Appel what a ****ing flop of a pick. Worst pick in luhnows tenure by far

I never hate getting great players, but was SS really the position we are lacking in? Of course this kid many years out, but just an interesting piece.

Appel and Aiken back to back. Ouch.

Giles better perform. That's a lot of pitching to give up.

Wait, Appel just helped us solidify a trade for the best on the market in our biggest need position, while saving us one of our top outfield prospects, and that makes him a flop?

People don't trade for flops. Sorry.
Mr.Bond
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Appel absolutely is a flop. He's a number one overall pick and wasn't even the corner stone of the trade

I am happy to be keeping Fisher and also getting a toolsy prospect in return. Appel is a busted pick, it happens. Be glad we got something for him and move on. VV is the only guy we gave up that I have high hopes for in the majors.

Meanwhile, we now have one the most dominant relievers in the league.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Exactly. We just massively improved by trading away a guy we hopes becomes Giles, an apparent busted pick, and a second rounder who projects as back of the rotation.

I'm happy.

Appel just didn't pan out. It happens. And don't act like it was a bad pick. At the time no one was stringing Lunhow up for picking the best pitcher available. As a matter of fact Lunhow was praised as a genius for passing on Appel and coming back around and nabbing him a year after we got Correa. It was a good pick that didn't pan out. However, we dealt while he was still dealable and got something for him.

There was just no room in the rotation for VV right now. He's ready to pitch in the bigs but just no room here and now. And Obie is a loser so all in all I think the only real asset we gave up was VV and he wasn't a big piece for us anyways.

I am also very happy that Martes and Musgrove were not involved in this trade.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Once again, I'm most happy that Appel was worth enough to save us from getting rid of Fisher.

Fisher has the tools to be a star outfielder. Between him, little Tucker, and Cameron, we are set up for a long future in outfield talent.
mazag08

And don't forget.. I've yet to see Tony Kemps name anywhere on trade talks. He is another outfielder / utility type that could end up being a star, and I think the main reason why we didn't protect Deshields in rule 5 last year.

Jonathan Arauz just turned 17 in August. He must be a very nice prospect to command that bonus last year when he was only 16. The guy would have just gotten his driver's license.
