Fister signed to a 1 year $7M deal that with incentives could reach $12M.

quote:
Fister, who'll soon turn 32, is a classic bounceback candidate. After several strong years in Detroit, he put up a stellar 2.41 ERA over 164 frames in 2014, his first season with the Nationals. But things took a turn south last year, as he dealt with injury issues and lost his rotation spot after he was tagged for a 4.60 ERA and .302/.341/.471 batting line in 15 starts.

I like this signing. Reminds of a Hunsicker type move, something under the radar but that could have some real reward and upside.

I absolutely love that contract... Don't lose a lot of he sucks again... But he will get rewarded if he does well.

So I've seen some snippets (granted they're highlights) of Fister throw and I really like his stuff.

He reminds me of Mike Fiers. Tall, over the top, downhill thrower, with some pretty wicked movement on some of his stuff.

I think with his team friendly incentive contract he's going to be a really nice piece. I'm liking this more and more. Great move by Lunhow.

Kuechel, McCugh, McCullers, Fiers, Fister. That's a potentially very salty five.

While I wouldn't count on it if they get anything out of Feldman and Peacock as starters or long relief that is awesome.

If Fister's velocity creeps back up to where it was 2 years ago, we'll have a good one. But that's a big if. Either way, great signing.

MT and LZ on 790 this morning with a hilarious skit regarding Fister potentially pitching to LJ Hoes.

Heard that. And Charlie just ran through the number of starts we have guys like Obie, Robertson, Straily, Deduno, etc... I think it was well over 20 total. I mean... That's 20 throwaway games. Depth matters.

Think I caught the end of it when they mentioned that Fister played his college ball at Witchita State for the Shockers.

Astros have 5 prospects in top 100 list
Bregman(22), Reed(40), Martes(41), Kyle Tucker(74), and Daz Cameron(75).

I think Fister is going to be a bust signing. His fastball velocity has dropped almost 3mph over the last two years and apparently a change in his release point has made the 2-seamer, his best pitch, very hittable. Maybe he can work on his release point and gain some velo, but I'm not surprised with the one-year incentive loaded deal he signed.

That's why nobody wanted him. Kind of like kazmir to start the year. Not a bad signing for 7 mill

His fastball percentage increased about 15% and his curveball percentage fell about 10% from his time with the Tigers (when he was actually good). If he is able to sequence his pitches better, I think he'll work out pretty well.

I don't really think bust is a fair word.

Not too much is expected of him seeing as he's slotted as a back end rotation or BP piece.

The hope is he out performs his contract. I wouldn't call it bust if he performs like he did last year.

This reminds of a Colin McCugh situation.

Except McHugh was a waiver claim with literally no downside. With Fister, it sounds like his forearm injury that sidelined him a month also impacted his performance. If an offseason of rest helps, it's a steal of a signing. If he has an ERA in the 3.8-4.0 range as a sixth starter or long reliever, it's still worth $7M. Who else would you slide into the rotation right now after our top five?

Interesting story on Daniel Norris. Not Astros related but a good read.

Sipp was on am 610 last night at pluckers. Keuchel tweeted in a question for him: "who is the sickest call of duty player on the team?"

Sipp said it was a tie between Keuchel and Chris Carter, who (thankfully) is no longer with the team

Starting to amp up the excitement for baseball season being here. Aggies start in 2 weeks, and only about a month until Spring Training.

Ok folks. Football season is over, the Rockets suck and Aggie basketball is done in a month.

I am ready and willing to devote my full attention to the Astros and hopefully you are too.

I have few friends that are true baseball folk, so I'm counting on you. This thread needs to be a place where until this November we leave no Astros stone unturned. I hope you're with me.

I'm with you, but technically this thread will end in April when the season starts and we move over to the Astros 2016 probable, conceivable march to the World Series thread.

Plus there will a little division of interest through mid June due to Fightin' Texas Aggie Baseball!

I truly love this upcoming time of year.
