Asst Hitting Coach Allen Zinter was hired by SD to be their new hitting coach. Don't think this is a big loss, but Zinter has been around for a while.

Reportedly pursuing Brad Boxberger and Jake McGee
Boxberger had a good year technically, but I was still hoping for a closer with a blazing fastball, and his is still just barely above league average in the 93-94 range. Just isn't a shut down closer you look for, still gives up plenty of walks and hits. Given is default All-Star status, probably costs too much.
Find some way to add Chapman and McGee without selling out too much and I am happy with that improved bullpen.

That's the problem...Chapman is going to cost a ton and especially with Kimbrel being dealt. Word is the Reds want MLB talent.

Some looked up the stats, particularly WAR.
It's funny, because you think those would be the savvy voters, but in reality they would be basing it on a severely flawed dWAR stat, which I don't think is able to handle plays where there is a defensive shift.

Yeah that does suck, but I'm not beating myself (or Lunhow) up for that one.
It wasn't like we made a horrible reach and took some guy that most thought was an glaring miscue. Appel has just flat out sucked.

Agreed. It wasn't some horrible decision when it happened. Just sucks thinking about how close we were to what could have been.
I still have hope that Appel can figure it out and put it all together. Remember, Keuchel had an ERA over 5.00 in his first two MLB seasons, and now he is (potentially) a Cy Young winner. He is still young enough to not write off just yet

Chapman only has one more year of team control, so he can only cost so much. His value was highest at the trade deadline, when a team was getting 1.5 years out of him. Now, everyone knows Cincy isn't paying their closer $15 million, so they have to trade him before the season so that the acquiring team can at least give him a qualifying offer before he hits free agency.
I don't think Cincy will get anywhere near the Kimbrel haul.
