Two additional things

1) The apartment he moves into at the end is basically a carbon copy of Tobey's from the original movies.

2) I think my wife set the record for biggest gap between seeing Marvel movies in the theater as she adds No Way Home to her collection. Last one she saw with me was Iron Man 2 in 2010.

I only wish the old landlord and daughter could have made a quick appearance somehow. I realize after the spell everyone is in their own respective universes so it would not have worked. Some kind of callback would have been awesome though.

Rewatching m, the dining room scene introducing Andrew happens almost exactly at the half way point of the film. And from that point they are arguably in the film more than just about anyone else

To me, this is where the film turned into something good. I absolutely hated the first half.

Just got out of it. Definitely a different experience than those of you who saw it opening night. I think one guy cheered at Daredevil, then it was just quiet after that. Not surprising for a Tuesday at 11:00AM though.

I thought the first 1/3 was a little slow but it definitely picked up after that. The emotions of this movie were wonderful, and honestly my favorite parts were the 3 guys just chatting it up on the Statue of Liberty.

Didn't care much about the mid-credits trailer, but I also haven't seen the Venom movies so I didn't even know who that guy was until the other voice started talking.

For me...

01. Spider-Man: No Way Home
02. Spider-Man: Homecoming
03. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
04. Spider-Man 2
05. Spider-Man
06. Spider-Man: Far From Home
07. The Amazing Spider-Man
08. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
09. Spider-Man 3

at first glance, i couldn't believe you had three films ahead of the original Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2.

then we re-watched the older ones with my son who has only seen the Holland movies and Spider-Verse. It cannot be understated how important those original three movies were, but I think a lot of people (myself included) remember them more fondly than they deserve. so after my re-watches, our top 3 differ, but the rest is identical.

1. Spider-Verse
2. No Way Home
3. Homecoming

also, seeing Garfield in No Way Home makes me so mad that his two films weren't better. rewatching those, he and emma stone are pretty fantastic in them and deserved better.

Garfield and Stone carried those movies. Especially the second one. Her death you really felt it but the villains were absolutely god awful.

I think the Garfield/Stone romance was the best one done yet, but the villains of the second one were epically bad.

Terrible take on Electro. Terrible take on hobgoblin or whatever the hell he was.

Garfield was a good spidey. Gwen was a legit fun character. Her dad too. They actually did a decent job with the Lizard. He was formidable. But the writing…

The mystery underground subway car with a video from Peter's dad….that writer should never work again.

Watched the first Amazing Spider-Man with my niece last night so she can get prepared for No Way Home. I got reminded just how much of an overall failure those movies were.

Garfield and Stone were well cast and Garfield does an admirable job, but everything else about that film is just....wrong. The ONLY thing that the first movie set up (and I don't believe ever followed through on), was changing Flash from a typical high school bully into a more sympathetic character by the end. That's the one thing no movie ever did: make Flash Thompson one of Peter's best friends as he was in the comics.

There is no way in hell that I will subject myself or my niece to the sequel. That movie is the Batman and Robin of Spider-Man movies. That No Way Home actually gave us a good Jamie Foxx performance as Electro is the "Amazing" part.

Saw this last weekend in an amazing crowd. Don't have much else to contribute other than that I echo it was absolutely fantastic and one of the most enjoyable movie experiences I've ever had (I don't understand how people don't enjoy crowds reacting in movies. It's just so fun) Marvel is just incredible.

I may have missed this but there seems to be some confusion on the mid-credits (Venom) scene and what it means moving forward. I took it as this:

  • The Tom Hardy-Venom we've gotten so far has nothing to do with the MCUniverse
  • Doesn't sound like Spider-Man exists in his world at all
  • Based on the post-credit scene from Venom 2 - Eddie was transported to the MCUniverse and laid his eyes on Tom Holland Spider-Man for the first time, immediately getting obsessed
  • - This sounds like a plot hole, but it doesn't matter. He had to get here somehow
  • Eddie gets transported back to his universe, but a small piece of the symbiote remains

To me, that indicated we are getting a (different and all-new) MCU version of Venom, to face the established Tom Holland Spider-Man... Not a Tom Holland Spider-Man who would somehow be in the Sony universe, which was always my biggest concern.

That's fantastic news to me since the Sony Venom is awful (although he does make me laugh). That version just wouldn't work with this MCU Spider-Man and it would be an absolute disaster if Sony tried their hand on it.

If we get an MCU take on Venom, we can see Feige's vision of the character. He would have free reign creatively to do it how Marvel (not Sony) sees fit, which would be the proper version. Think Jamie Foxx's Electro in this one...

Now I could see it still being Tom Hardy portraying Eddie Brock, but again I think it would be a different take altogether. I personally would prefer a different actor though.

Does anyone else think this as well, or am I way off in my assumptions?

Watched it last night.

Very well done movie. Toby was the only fan reaction in my 70% filled theater.

Call me a softy, but I think they could have done one last thing at the end. When Peter makes the decision to separate from MJ and Ned, they should have had a part where she turns to go back to work and he whispers, "I love you too," and then walks out the door.

Side note, at the end of Endgame, at the end of Tony's hologram speech (Eulogy) they should have had Tony's daughter run to the hologram screaming, "Daddy!," and fall into the fatherly loving hug of Happy. That would have left all fathers in any theater in a heap of tears!

Where will they go with Spiderman. I kind of hope they take a break for about 10 years. Rebuild the excitemnet and reboot.

That's what I'm really hoping is going to happen as well. Have Holland be a few years older, settled into his life as a friendly neighborhood, albeit broke as usual, SM. The Venom symbiote comes calling. You can bring MJ & Ned back while on break from MIT and involve them.

That will never happen. Sony has to produce Spider-man material every certain number of years (7 I think, but I might have that wrong) or the film rights revert back to Marvel/Disney.

Is that not Dr. Pym in the coffee shop at the end or am I just seeing things. I haven't found any mention of it anywhere, so I'm assuming I must be wrong.

Dr Pym is on the mural of great scientists at the school, along with Howard Stark and what's his face from Captain America - Stanley Tucci's character.

One more thing, even though it's barely 20 seconds on screen, how great was it to see Doc Ock vs. the Goblin? Granted Octavius was now a good guy, but I can't think of a recent superhero movie where 2 villains throwdown - at least big-time ones. Electro and Sandman fight a bit earlier, but fighting the guy made out of sand is always a confusing proposition for me.

So at the time of this movie, the TVA is dead right? Otherwise they would've shut everything down early on.

1. TVA does not exist yet.

and/or

2. Nothing happened here, one way or the other, that affects the sacred timeline

Maybe you're right, but it feels like they opened the multiverse with Loki for the hardcore fans, then opened it for the general Marvel audience with this movie. You have to think there's some sort of tie-in with Loki.

The multiverse stuff isn't being controlled very tightly. There's going to be a lot of things going forward that don't quite add up now that time travel and multiverses exist

Went today with my son. He loved it. He had never seen the previous versions of Spider-man movies, but I filled him in on the previous movies before hand.
Random thoughts.

  • Dafoe was great, he absolutely was having a ball. Can you get an Oscar in a Marvel movie for ~10 minutes worth of screen time?
  • Good job internet keeping Daredevil and the two other Spider-man secret, but we all knew the last two would probably appear. But they got a lot more screen time than I expected
  • Everyone, especially Maguire and Garfilied did a really good job reprising their roles. Those two still really felt like their version of Peter.
  • Wish they would have made Maguire's and Garfiled's suits a little different.
  • The ending was really sad, but a great twist on a widely hated similar plot line from comics.
  • This was a great reset to the MCU trilogy of Spider-man They can go pretty much anywhere with the next Spider-man stories.
  • I really liked how they gave Garfields' Spider-man a chance to redeem himself by rescuing MJ similar to his Gwen. They kind of made fun of him a bit too much in this movie.
  • As soon as Aunt May started talking about power and responsibility I knew what was coming. Another great twist in the traditional Spider-man story.

$37 million at the box office on Monday, another $31 million on Tuesday.

That's $328 million domestically in 5 days. Already #70 all time.

Not counting for inflation, it's going to be the #1 Spidey movie ever by the end of the week.

Tobey's first made $407 million in 2002 and Far From Home hit $390 million.

Spider-Man 2 reached $373 million and Homecoming hit $328 million.

Among Marvel Comic movies, it's currently 16th, but will pass GOTG, Homecoming, and Spider-Man 3 with Wednesday's tallies. Only 9 Marvel character movies have topped $400 million, and only four have risen above $500 million. How high can No Way Home fly? Your current top 10 domestic for Marvel are:

1. Endgame: $858 million
2. Black Panther: $700 million
3. Infinity War: $678 million
4. The Avengers: $623 million
5. Age of Ultron: $459 million
6. Captain Marvel: $426 million
7. Iron Man 3: $409 million
8. Civil War; $408 million
9. Spider-Man:$403 million
10. Far From Home: $390 million

Same. 5th feels about right.

Saw Matrix tonight with the family, at my hometown theater, and we had trouble finding a parking space because of how crowded the theater was. Never experienced that before at that particular theater, which has a massive parking lot. Just absolutely packed on a Wednesday night, for Matrix as well, but mostly for Spider-Man. Pretty cool to see.

I think it's got 4th in the bag with these daily numbers so far and has a decent shot at being 2 or 3 depending on how much it can take in over the Christmas weekend.
