I thought it was odd seeing James Gunn depicted as being the same height as David Corenswet when he's 6'-4" (4 inches taller than James Gunn). I guess he was either wearing platforms or standing on a box. That whole promo just seemed off.

Good to hear they are whole assing it instead of half assing it.

My guess is this is when we'll see the next trailer, which also happens to be the same day Sinners releases in theaters, which is Warner Bros big spring movie...

A quick little blurb in an unrelated story from Jeff Snieder's latest newsletter. I've always felt this movie lacked real star power for whatever reason, but if they're keeping those stars a secret - even if just a couple cameos here and there - that would make so much more sense...

Even Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's next film, due in 2026, is a risk, albeit one mitigated by the presence of Tom Cruise, who signed a deal with Warners back in January 2024. Could DC have plans for Cruise? It's possible… though I can only imagine him as Batman or as Superman's biological father, Jor-El. There are said to be some major casting surprises in Gunn's Superman, and I imagine Jor-El is one of them, so stay tuned on that front…

I thought it might be Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt - and who knows, it still might be - but a source suggested that Gunn wouldn't do that to Marvel's Kevin Feige, seeing as how we likely haven't seen the last of Star-Lord in the MCU.

Tom Cruise as Batman would be a 15 second opening shot of him just running down the middle of Main Street in downtown Gotham with a backdrop of everything on fire.

Screen goes to black...."Two weeks earlier..."

While the menace of Cruise in Tropic Thunder was to comic effect, if he could channel that into a villain he would make a cool Zod.

I can see the script:
Zod smiles manically and puts his arm on Superman's shoulder, pulling him closer.

ZOD: Kal-El, I need you to understand. I'm not here for my own purposes. I'm here at the request of LORD XENU.

Meanwhile, I spoke to someone this weekend who has seen Superman, and they really liked it. They said David Corenswet delivers as the Man of Steel and that the "jokey moments" I mentioned on my podcast, The Hot Mic, were initially viewed out of context, but worked much better within the flow of the edit. They compared it to how Gunn balanced the humor and the drama in The Suicide Squad, saying it has genuinely funny moments but it also knows when to drop the shtick and get serious. The current runtime is roughly 140 minutes.

Despite the early troubles I heard about - something I hear about most movies, mind you - I have faith in Zaslav's decision that Gunn was the right guy to direct Superman.

I posted it only because Richtman is legit, and doesn't have a dog in this fight. If he's saying/hearing it, it's probably true.

So, also from the latest test screening, the actor playing Jor-El has finally been leaked, but I won't spoil it here (even though it's starting to be posted on social media and he apparently appears in the first few minutes of the movie). Not a massive name, but a pretty big one, and someone Gunn has worked with before. I'll wait and see if it's revealed in the next trailer, which will be shown next week at CinemaCon and could potentially be released online publicly/with Minecraft (another Warner Bros movie) next Thursday.

Random anecdote, but I was watching an interview with Alan Ritchson about Reacher and he was talking about how John Cena was genuinely one of the kindest people he's ever met. Not that I doubt it, just wouldn't necessarily expect that based on his characters.

And my guess: Nathan Fillion

Way bigger than Fillion, who is already playing Guy Gardner in the movie.

That's awesome about Cena, though.

Guessing based on older actors in James Gunn movies, I'd go with Kurt Russell

Seems like it would make the most sense. Only other person in age range is guy who plays Yondu? Pratt I guess could be it since it's just a memory of his younger father from when he is a baby.

It's not surprising that John Cena is a really nice guy, he has granted more Make a Wish's than anybody else by a long shot, like hundreds more than anyone else.

I still lean toward Gunn making a good movie and, if so, it'll be a massive success. But man, the marketing for this thing continues to scream cheap, plasticky, and mid-90s-Happy-Meal...

Speaking of, I'm seeing multiple, conflicting reports on the next trailer...

- It drops online this Tuesday (the day of Warner Bros' CinemaCon presentation).

- It drops online this Thursday (the day Minecraft hits theaters).

- It drops online the week Sinners hits theaters (Warner Bros' other big April blockbuster, April 18).

- It drops online the week Thunderbolts* hits theaters (May 2).

There are even rumors of a big, five-minute sequence from the movie premiering this Tuesday at CinemaCon, and possibly making its way online at the same time as well.

Honestly, I have no idea which scenario ends up happening. All I know is it sounds like the marketing campaign is about to kick into high gear this week, and that even if we don't see anything quite yet ourselves, we're going to get plenty of descriptions from CinemaCon attendees come Tuesday.

Well there we go. Smart play, as Minecraft is going to make a killing this weekend, and this version of Superman is increasingly looking to play more to kids as well. Granted, you couldn't pay me to see Minecraft in theaters, so hopefully this "extended preview" is online at some point next week. We should find out more at Warner Bros' CinemaCon panel, which kicks off in a little over two hours, where Gunn, the cast, and the movie will be heavily featured.

James Gunn tells us how SUPERMAN will begin:

"He is starting to become successful (at both jobs) in the big glitzy city so far away from home.

He's madly in love with a woman who isn't so sure about him.

And he's made a few superhuman friends who like him but think of him as naive.

All these new elements in his life have unbalanced him a bit and as he's tottering.

We're going to see where he lands in terms of his values and choices.

I think that's a great place to start off for a character that everybody in the world knows like the back of their hand. Almost like if the Tom Holland Spideys had started off at Spiderman: Far from Home. We don't need the story leading up to what Gunn described in his tweet.
