One last thought before I scroll up and read whether everyone hated it and if I'm an idiot simpleton:
This is the most fun I've had in a movie theater in a while. I spent more of it grinning like an idiot than I have at a movie since Maverick.

I was going to AMC Katy Mills a lot after the rona lockdowns, but Star Cinema Grill on 1093 has totally supplanted it for me.Cinco Ranch Aggie said:

I was supposed to be seeing Superman right now. Got to the theater easily on time. Previous showing was just letting out, after which they roped it off while presumably cleaning the auditorium. Then a guy came out and announced that due to technical difficulties, the movie would not be starting on time. He couldn't give an estimate as to when it might start, but then said something that sounded a whole lot like an hour and a half from now. He assured everyone that it would play, just didn't know when. Yeah, that's not going to work. I am an early riser and I have no desire to burn a PTO day over a movie.
This is the second time this has happened in two weeks. Last time was the mystery screening that turned out to be Jurassic World Rebirth, but they were able to move to a smaller auditorium. Superman will be in their biggest auditorium and was a sellout I am sure, so they probably could not move it to a different auditorium.
They did refund the tickets and gave me a gift card on top of that, but dammit, how hard is it to keep the equipment fully functional? AMC Katy Mills. Been my go-to for years after the local Cinemark pissed me off way back when. I might just get a new go-to.
The Star Cinema Grill in College Station is better than most LA theaters. I love that place.

I have been there a few times, but it is a bit farther than I typically go for a theater. My wife doesn't like seats at the Alamo, which is closest to our house, or that is where we would typically go.

A couple of more thoughts as I simmer in this one:
- as a Cavillstan, I'm sad he didn't get a chance to make this movie, but I have zero complaints about Corenswet. He was fantastic and truly excellent as Supes. He nailed it.
- I was highly skeptical of The Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific from the pre-release PR/media. I was 100% wrong. Both delivered.
- of course, Lois was perfect. Brosnahan found exactly the right amount of Maisel to bring to the role. Thoroughly charmed.
I'm struggling to find a single thing to complain about. It's definitely "weird" but you know how Gunn gives you wild stuff in GOTG and you just somehow accept it without question? Same here. He just knows how to make it work. Didn't hurt that they absolutely nailed it by playing one of my favorites with the outro song. Speaking of music, the score. It'll sneak up on you and wash over you like a warm blanket.

I am so excited to see more of this world and seeing old favorites like Bats and Wonder Woman be here. Batman needs to be a grizzled old ******* like in the Justice League cartoon that is just eternally annoyed having to work with Corenswet Supes.

Excited to hear all the positive reactions, I'm probably gonna have to wait a week but definitely stoked as a big GotG fan.
My 11 year old said the following as we walked out of the XD auditorium, "That was the best movie I've ever seen." Next to Superman, Krypto was his favorite character. Mine might have been Jimmy Olsen. What an incredible cast.

Exactly. But this Jimmy is perfect.
So glad to hear those comments from NewRockStars. He touches on, and explains much more succinctly, exactly what I was hoping for out of this movie...a successful step back from the ultra-realism approach that comic book movies have taken since Batman Begins/Iron Man, and back into an actual bright fantastical comic book world.
I used to post this guys stuff here a bunch because it was honestly really interesting and insightful on what could be coming along with the breakdowns….but after he literally told people in an Acolyte video to "**** off" for being happy that the show got cancelled I haven't watched one of his videos since….
I will post a negative I had. There is a segment of the film that goes into Quantumania level of cgi jank for the environment.

I will say that I'm not sure why James Gunn brought up the whole immigrant thing. I know he didn't say exactly what "Variety" made it out to be with their headline, but this movie had absolutely NO political commentary whatsoever that I caught. And I'm normally very in tune to that stuff.

I think it's one of those things where some of them are using their moment in the spotlight to get in a jab at national policy that's bothering them. I don't get it, but I kind of figured the movie wasn't going to be heavy handed about it like it was being portrayed. After all, they want this to make money. I'm encouraged to hear that it's fun and hopeful...and I'm looking forward to taking my kid to see it. This will be his first super hero movie on the big screen.Rex Racer said:

I'm very hopeful that we get a good, uplifting Superman movie.

Same. On a scale of CW to MCU to DCEU, it was a little closer to the MCU, on the DCEU side, while feeling distinctly DC.

This is a movie that is unashamed at being earnest. It is the idea that it is punk rock to not be snarky and to give a **** about people when you compare it to our current culture. If that is too CW then maybe.
