I think all of this make him more relatable/human. It's one thing to just be impenetrable and immortal and nothing hurts you and fighting bad guys but if you're suffering fighting for justice, well then, that's what make you a hero.

Agreed. I've never been a big Superman fan for that very reason. He vulnerable to one thing, and he's a cheet code.

But I see the vision now, especially in that Fortress of Solitude sequence (I love the 1930s feel of the robots/tech), and I'm absolutely here for it for it as well.

Weird coincidence that the new Fantastic Four has that vibe too.
It's probably just trend timing. We've had the darker look and feel for years now. We were due for a stylistic change.

Quote:

Warner Bros Pictures Co-CEO, MIKE DE LUCA, chats about 'SUPERMAN'

"I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it. It's got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It's the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it's so epic and visually arresting and emotional. The performances are great. It is a five-star movie to me, and I can't wait for the world to see it. Yeah, we're really excited about Superman, James crushed it…

I would say in spirit, it is closer to [Donner's Superman], but it's also a big hunk of epic sci-fi. It has a little bit of what I loved about Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's true-blue Superman. The conflict sources that he uses for inspiration, All-Star Superman and the like are in there, too. It is really a love letter to what has made Superman endure for almost a hundred years. He managed to get it all in there."

Unfortunately, no new trailer with Sinners for Superman Day tomorrow. Sounds like they're either holding it for two weeks from now with Thunderbolts* (my guess) or maybe even for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning three weeks after that.

Just now saw that trailer. Looks good.

I am a big fan of the whole dark/realistic/brooding Batman world/character but Superman needs to be his own thing. The whole dark thing doesn't work with his character. Trying to make all the DC movies like Batman is a big reason why they haven't worked.

The five-minute Fortress of Solitude sequence played in front of every showing of Minecraft a month ago, a movie that is likely on its way to making a billion dollars, with every kid and teen who saw it being exposed to the new, kid-friendly Superman movie.

Now, over the next two weeks, this new trailer will play in front of Final Destination Bloodlines, Lilo & Stitch, and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, the latter two of which are now tracking for the biggest Memorial Day Weekend in box office history.

Not to mention the play the trailer will receive in front of all the June blockbusters, culminating in early July with exposure before Jurassic World Rebirth, which will likely be the highest grossing movie of the summer.

In other words, you couldn't ask for a better marketing rollout, never mind all the TV play, NBA playoff spots, brand tie-ins, etc over the next two months.

Now the big question is... will this trailer actually deliver? There are still so many questions surrounding the movie, and this trailer is going to go such a long way toward answering a number of them. To that end, considering an entire cinematic universe, and thus a huge part of Warner Bros' future, is riding on this movie, it feels like so much, in turn, is riding on Wednesday as well.

A lot of it is in the music callbacks, but man that just hits.

I like that they're taking the classic concept of Superman and juxtaposing that with modern political ideologies to create some of the conflict, much better approach to modernize the character as opposed to the "make it dark" approach of past DCU films. Really hoping this delivers but I'm stoked.

Can't wait.

I will pick one nit - based the one line she has in the trailer, they got Ma Kent's accent incredibly wrong. None of the small town Kansas farm wives I know have Southern accents.

The Hammer of Boravia!

Boravia being a fictional country in the DC universe.

Yeah, that's the most Superman has sounded like Superman in a long, long time. They figured it out with Captain America, so it's nice they finally figured it out with Superman.

So James Gunn made a talking tree more popular than Superman. It'll be great if this movie is able to catapult Superman back into prominence.

I'm more concerned about Hoult at this point. The best Luthor is always the Luthor who isn't a stereotype. The screaming bald maniac isn't a threat to Superman. The calculating working within the system Luthor is the one that vexes Superman.
They really sold me on SUperman's character in his faux interview with Lois Lane where he is made aware of the complexities of his actions and is so exasperated it.

And I really need an alt take where that guy pegs him with the can in the head and he turns around an atomizes him.

I also meant to say it was great seeing Superman portray real emotion and get passionate about what he's doing

It was incredibly well done and you know he looked at Steve Rogers for that whole scene. What torments a god? When being told doing good and using those powers for good is wrong
