Nothing is more Christian than shuttering the government agency that helps struggling countries with food, medicine, and clean water.

It's sad when a poor soul flaunts his ignorance for all to see. It shows they know nothing about Christian charity and what its purpose is. If they did, they would understand that governmental agency can never be charity regardless of the appearance of goodwill or benefit to the recipient. Never mind that the supposed "charity" usually comes with strings attached or an ulterior motive that certainly isn't "charitable".
The best way to keep evil men from wielding great power is to not create great power in the first place.

They have to cut a trillion before the budget is balanced. Until that point the only thing Americans will receive is loosening of chains of debt on themselves, their children, and future unborn progeny.
I think it would take a $2 trillion cut to balance the budget - that would require cutting into SS, Medicare and/or defense. Probably not going to happen.

Going to have to grow the economy to create more revenue in addition to $1 trillion in cuts to get to a balanced budget.

Exactly. I rely on TA for twitter responses etc and it seems there actually haven't been too many Dems (or Republicans!, which would really be tricky for them) squealing yet.

I can confidently assume a bunch of them are a bit nervous right now, fearing their ties to all this $$$ are about to be exposed.

ETA: Bill Kristol should be finished now. POS.

I enjoy coming to F16 in the morning, reading something new that helps make America get better because of Trump's policy action, and thinking wow I can't believe i had to argue with conservatives for over a year this would be a different Trump. Feels selfishly satisfying.

It is a routine. Teeth/Bathroom then fix up the Bialetti with the good stuff (look that up if you don't know.... life changing), flip open the machine to F16 and smile. I go back in thought somewhere around 2008 when politics started to matter to me and how much Andrew Wilkow influenced that time. "Free From Me, Free From You."

I never would have believed that this could ever happen.

Has anyone done the math if we reallocated these funds to pay down some of our debt obligations? I know we are spending 1.7 trillion or something on interest alone and 40b is probably a drop in the bucket, but you have to make some incremental progress, no?

Let me take a few seconds for a commercial break.

Comical note: 14 of the top 15 POTD are from this thread. Thought that was interesting.

Thread title says "Trump shuts down USAID", but the story is all about Musk saying he's going to do it. So I guess now we're cool with unelected bureaucrats taking control of government?

Nice principles you got there.

USAID is 100% unelected bureaucrats. So sure, one unelected person firing another unelected person is fine. It's the unelected people creating more unelected people that creat more unelected people who again hire more unelected people that I have a problem with.

You understand Trump's the one in charge right? All these things are being done at his direction.
And yes, I'm totally fine with Musk doing as much as possible as long as it begins to eliminate government spending and waste.

So it's okay for unelected bureaucrats to run things so long as they align with your interests?

Like I said, nice principles you've got there.

DOGE is not taking control of the government. Its sole purpose is to shrink the federal bureaucracy and it even has its own expiration date that will make it last shorter than a single term of any elected official on Capitol Hill. So hell yeah, I'm good with it. If the Democrats had done this I would have been skeptical but would have cautiously supported it. (Thing is, the Dems would never do this across the board.)

I can't overstate how strategically smart it was to take on USAID first. They are the ones who fund hit piece journalists and rent-a-riots to shut down any reforms.

It'll be interesting how the deet state fights back with their credit card cutoff.

I like how that NBC article call a $40B budget just a "fraction" of the overall budget. 40 Billion Dollars!
Wiki...
US 2023 budge was $6,100,000,000,000 in total outlays, but $3.8 was mandatory spending and $0.7 Net interest (I'm assuming some other interest is buried in the mandatory...)

$1,700,000,000,000 Discretionary

$40,000,000,000 is 2.35% of discretionary
$40,000,000,000 is 0.656% of total

Yeah, it's a fraction. Everything is a "fraction" when you express the math correctly.

To paraphrase the late Senator from Illinois, Everett Dirksen:

"40 Billion here and 40 Billion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money".

True. Also, like other outlays, it makes sense to stop it outright first, then renew as find are valid or can flush out just where it was going.

I agree.
Stop it completely. 100%.
Then open up as needed under new laws and protections.

The ONLY downside to this, is I worry that someone will PAY. No doubt, many powerful people would love to see Trump and/or Elon dead, now more than ever.

This is the biggest government shakeup we have evee seen in our lifetimes. Whether it works or not, it's a genuine aggressive attempt at a reversal of the existing power structures and status quo. It's f-ing happening.

This makes Watergate look like stealing a pen and some paperclips from the office supply closet. Lifelong Dems aren't going to like that either. Watergate was sooooo terrible.

Any of that loosening of chains of debt turn into real money going into those people's wallets, and if so, how will we get that money in our wallets?
In an ideal and just world, hopefully tax cuts to those already paying for almost everything.

Well, as long as those tax cuts also come to us, the non wealthy, then that'll be just.

100 percent true. And Georgia/Romania/Slovakia (among others) still today.

I didn't vote for the FBI, USAID, NED, CFPB, OSHA, DOE, ATF, CIA, PBS, CPB-NPR/PBS, FDA, WHO, UN, IRS, Federal Reserve, EPA , Fauci, or CDC.

Who will go to jail and made examples of and deterrence for others?
