We are well aware that the the pro-russia side thinks a real hero would lay down and surrender.
This isn't a game of chicken on the play ground. A real hero/leader would make difficult decisions and work aggressively to come to a settlement instead of prolonging the war.
But Zelensky knows, once the war ends so does his celebrity.
Real heroes fight until they are dead. There's zero chance I'd ever surrender to anyone that invaded my homeland.

Good mediators make sure everyone leaves the room upset and uncomfortable - that is how you know the middle ground was located.
What Zelensky is attempting to do is prove the mediator wrong - that rarely happens and only serves to diminish his own position.
