Without looking it up, name who his dem challenger was for attorney general.

Georgia's elections aren't secure.
Dems didn't have to cheat in 2022 like they did 2020. Walker was one of the worst modern day candidates. Kemp was reelected with 2.1 million votes and Walker only gained 1.9 million.
Walker had zero political experience nor skins on the wall. Paxton has both in droves.
Paxton also has LOTS more skeletons in the closet...

To me, the "Beto mania" potential is a bigger issue than any skeletons Paxton has.

Yep, this is why I chuckle at people who are convinced Talarico has a shot. Talarico is polling ok because people don't know him and Cornyn and Paxton are in a hard core mud slinging contest. All it takes is a few ads like this for people to see and it is pretty clear anyone with an R will win easily.

Hegar was light years ahead of Talarico as far as moderate D and Cornyn beat her by ~10pts in the year of 81MM votes for democrats.
I'm just not seeing the run for the exits. They've only just begun digging up Talarico'a crazy comments and they already disqualify him with 70% of indies once it gets blown up on commercials.

That was also a year when Trump was on the ballot. Guess who's not on the ballot in November.
Talarico has a couple of things going for him.
1. Money. He's out-raised Paxton 10-1 at this point.
2. He's got a personality that will appeal to suburban middle class white women. But he also will need to get support from some minority communities that he doesn't have right now.
3. Trump isn't on the ballot. So turnout overall will be lower, meaning every vote counts a little bit more in the aggregate. Cornyn supporters that stay home could be a problem.
Discount Talarico at your own peril. Things would have to break perfectly for him to win, but there's a non-zero chance it could happen.

I think Paxton will win but I wouldn't get too cocky. The fact that this race is competitive doesn't bode well for the GOP's chances across the country. The GOP will have to spend here instead of in more important races that are historically competitive, like Maine.
I'll never understand why Cornyn is a RINO but I do think he would clean Talarico's clock, especially with independents.
Should be interesting.

C'mon man. Is that really a thing? I have lived in Texas all my life. Coke County, Bandera County, Crockett County, and Travis County. My dad was the superintendent of every school I ever attended and most of my family are career educators. My wife and kid also attended Texas public schools. I have never heard a single person I've ever known complain about trans people in elementary schools. I can't even give you a "nice try" on that one. It's just lazy fear mongering.

Texas GOP runoff turnout is running hotter than expected.

EV + mail finished around 829k, well above our mid-stream 534k snapshot. If early vote represents roughly 60–65% of the final electorate, total turnout could land near 1.3M and closer to 60% of March, not the ~1.05 to… https://t.co/J8euyGgFrr

Those are interesting data points. In a Foxnews interview this morning, Paxton was acting and sounding like he's already won. Pulled all of his attack ads against Cornyn and is now focused exclusively on defeating Talarico.
Sounds like it may be a lot closer than he is assuming.

I think the issue is the "Beto mania" combined with the Paxton skeletons will make it a much closer race than it should be.
This will mean the Rs will have to pull money from other races to prop this one up, making other races vulnerable, too.
