They've convinced millions of Texans that Talarico is a normal, level headed moderate. The fact that it isn't true is completely irrelevant.

This November election campaign is just getting started in earnest. That narrative is about to be destroyed. Paxton is going to beat Talrico like a drum. It won't be particularly close.

All the media fear mongering is nothing more than their regularly scheduled early attempt to depress Republican voters. Now that we have a chance at a real conservative for the Senate, plus a blaspheming charlatan as the Democrat opponent, Republicans will flock to the polls this November.


It has been nothing more than an attempt to keep RINO as a senator. Talarico would've lost regardless. Media tries to pump him up and downplay Paxton to prevent what could be their worst enemy from being senator. So sad, didn't work.

We will see, but

  • Any scenario a Talarico wins a Texas senate seat, Cornyn would be as vulnerable as Paxton
  • Those scenarios only exist where Texas Republicans are asleep at the wheel, democrats have insane turnout levels, and the wheels completely fall off the economy, jobs, inflation, etc.

The amount of ads run against him using his own words is only just started…Paxton is a known commodity, everyone, at least most know his own failings, Talarico is a gift with his words.


I think you underestimate how little many people including many independent types care about that. I think the bubble of places like this board misleads people as to the thinking of the larger electorate.

There are TONS of moderate democrats and independents who wouldn't have voted who will turn out for Talarico because he's young, gives off a veneer of calm professionalism and isn't Ken Paxton. The election will be decided by how many of those types there are Va how many Cornyn voters don't show up for Paxton. And the issue at hand is that every Paxton voter would have voted republican still in the general no matter what. That's the nature of being the more vocally right wing candidate. There's inverse is not true.

I agree. What you described seems to be the crux of probably ~90% of all GOP races around the entire USA these days. Trump has taken over the GOP and he and his supporters dominate the Republican Party to an extent bigger than any politician in either major party has been able to do since FDR. It is quite amazing.

I actually think Paxton will do better against Talarico than Cornyn would have. Talarico wasn't just going to lay down and let Cornyn win. Cornyn proved in the runoff that he isn't prepared for a real race against a tough opponent. He has always been a terrible campaigner that the establishment protected, and prevented him from getting a strong opponent so he didn't have to do much to get reelected as long as he toed the Party line.

Paxton will take off the gloves and fight.

What's the real reason the Republican Party threw so much money supporting Cornyn? It isn't because they really believe they will lose the seat. Feels a lot more like the uniparty protecting the swamp is the underlying reason. Passing the SAVE act should survive have been simple given the folks they represent R/D all want it well above the filibuster level

Paxton would've laid down and let Cornyn win. He set the terms. Cornyn wouldnt be a strong Republican. He brought his own defeat

Agreed. I don't think anyone believes R will lose the seat.

if R loses the seat it's a sweep of seismic proportions. Beyond anything any living person has ever witnessed. And it wouldn't matter who R ran.

The same reason they threw away money in Maryland rather than in close races in MI, NV and AZ. The people controlling that money want a swing group that can sink any specific legislation and can make compromises that turn into dollars and patronage. A 55 or 56 GOP Senate can't guarantee the McConnell, Murkowski, Collins and 1 or 2 others (like Thune and Cornyn) can do that.

Cornbrisket outspent Paxton by 15-20x, and was still just completely slaughtered. The message is pretty loud and clear and imo it isn't that Dems voted for Paxton en masse.

Looking at the county by county results, I just don't see how this is possible because there just isn't massive turnout for Republicans in the deep blue counties. The big wins are Pax +30-40 in deep red counties.

Harris (Pax 61k; Corn 32k)
Dallas (Pax 22k; Corn 23k)
Travis (Pax 13k; Corn 14lk)

These figures are with 60% reporting at Statesman. I'm not bothering to look for more complete data.

I'm sure there were Dim shenanigans but I'm not seeing where multiple 10 of thousands employed this strategy.

I don't know that a normal, moderate Dem exists anymore. They have to pass muster with the leadership now, and obviously he is their 'man'. In that party he was likely the cream of the crop.

Quite amazing when you stop and think about it.
