So now that all of this has been brought to light, I imagine leftists will begin to think twice before they post some of the vitriol they've historically thought they could get away with. They'll start locking down their accounts and making absolutely sure that it's restricted to their select "friends" list.

So as a hiring manager, when you go vet a potential new hire by checking their online social media presence...what do you do if the person has everything completely locked down? How do you know what their true nature is?

I would never commit violence over beliefs(I say this so mods don't think I'm doxing or threatening). This dude lives about 15mins from me. Little goblin praises the school system in an extremely red area of an extremely red state for his kid. But is team blue because he's ******ed.

Yep. The craft beer industry was awesome about 10 years ago. It has been infested by vile leftists and SJW types. One of the major reasons I left the industry.

Fair enough. Is there any way to make it stick then? As a potential customer I would find it highly relevant to know about the owner's character. His business is in California, so unfortunately his comments going viral would probably just manage to increase patronage.

Try just the 1 star without the comments. That might work.

Looks like the state will be moving to curtail free speech in universities as a result of those who expressed their dislike of Kirk. Legislative committees in house and senate were created and will be meeting.

Of course I guess it's possible that they will be protecting free speech. But I doubt it. Nothing indicates that they will do that. It looks like they will be moving against hate speech.

That used to be a leftist thing. Actually it still is. But the chairs have switched.

How'd we do that before social media? You interview, talk to them, and trust your gut. Bad hires happen but my gut is usually right

Yes and no.

Before the advent of widespread social media, people didn't typically hold such radical views. Democrats and republicans, for the most part, got along. Now, social media has fostered such radical extremes and hatred that it's just different now. A liberal 25 years ago (of which I would've been lumped with them based on my current views) could coexist just fine with a conservative.

Not anymore. Radical left and radical right have both adopted a mentality that the other side must be completely eliminated. Such black and white thinking. All good or all bad.

Freedom of speech =/= freedom from consequence.

And when the pendulum swings again, don't complain. Fits with your principles.

Me, I happen to believe that what people say about politics and current events on their own is their own private business, esp when they work for a university that supposedly supports and endorses freedom of speech.

Getting fired over your politics - coming sooner and more often. Remember Jordan Peterson?

Is condoning murder and even wishing for murder acceptable politics? So a professor gets cancelled or fired for saying there are only two genders is fine, but accepting murder and saying someone should lose their life is acceptable? Wishing death upon someone is not an acceptable opinion or speech.
Why don't the idiots you support just keep their thoughts to themselves? Oh, because they are pushing their Marxist ideas.

Mine too but I also check social media for some outward facing positions. Not going to hire someone that is posting bs stuff online if they have to deal with public and represent my team.

Nonsense. They are being fired over their conduct not their politics. Anyone who celebrates a cold-blooded murder should be fired and shunned from civil society. And if they wanted to keep it private, don't post it on social media. Posting on those platforms shows the exact opposite intent of remaining private.

As already pointed out, the first amendment protects the citizen from government…not from the non-violent consequences society imposes.

My politics have nothing to do with celebrating an assassination. If my employer wants to fire me for believing in fiscal responsibility - so be it. Would be weird for a financial services firm to take that stance though.

Do you know what a moral clause is? Most jobs and contracts include moral clauses. If a company doesn't feel like their employee is not living up to the moral standards they want they can be fired.

Also wouldn't celebrating and glorifying killing someone you disagree with also encourage others to kill another so they can be celebrated and glorified? So celebrating killers only encourages more to kill. Think it through for once.

This isn't getting fired over politics. This is getting fired for being a ****ty human being celebrating the assassination of someone they disagreed with. If you think your political position should allow you to publicly celebrate the assassination without repercussion, your political position is vile.

Just trying to be *******s, probably something they saw another one say online.

They think they can get away with anything because ever since St. Floyd of Fentanyl ODed, being black, especially female, was often an automatic pass to do whatever they wanted.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
