It won't ruin us, but 'yes' on redistricting got more than triple the funding vs. no, so it will be a heavy lift. We'll have options on 'the day after' if it does pass (to eliminate 4 GOP US House seats).

Most informed observers I've followed expect it to pass by 2 to 5 points. We'll see.

Democrats are motivated by their hated of Trump.

Trump isn't on the ballot so a good chunk of the Republican base isn't motivated and won't turn out.

Special election

Democrats outspent the Republicans over 10-1.

So, I guess Virginia will be lost forever after today if this effort prevails. Another state joins the communist tide.

BALLOT QUESTION
Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?

So can the average Virginia voter understand this (lawyer written) amendment proposal?
Is this even Constitutional. A temporary redistricting for one election?
And is it Constitutional to add the word "fairness" to the proposal, would that not assume that the present situation is not fair?

For anyone in Virginia you should vote NO.

Democrats scheme and lie, continuously.

And everyone knows as well it wouldn't be for 'only one election' it would be embraced until they are somehow forced to change. The wording, the marketing/message, the impact, all of it is as disingenuous as open borders or Obamacare on the fabric of society.

I give the "No" vote about a 3% chance

97% chance that the leftists who now control all of the commie wealth of Virginia now eliminate every single GOP district

great work by the state legislatures controlled by the GOP for sitting around doing @#$#@ about any of this as California and Virginia and Connecticut gerrymander the Republican party out of existence.

I did read that the State of Virginia Supreme Court has allowed this to proceed without challenge

Supreme Court of Virginia greenlights redistricting referendum

"Now it's up to voters," Gov. Abigail Spanberger said Friday in response to the high court's order.

From a Federal level, the Supreme Court just issued a stay allowing our Texas redistricting plan. It seems unlikely they will be able to carve out a different conclusion in this case.

It is my understanding that redistricting is a political question, and the SCOTUS has deferred to state legislatures for redistricting.

If my understanding is correct, Virginia will have no issues with this.

There are a lot of Republican seats that will be gained from VRA being struck down. And the red states will probably do the same soon.

The red states have a lot more gains than blue states after VRA is struck down.

If this was the other way around, some district judge or appellate judge would block the referendum if it even hinted that the redistricting was going to help the GOP. Yes, the Supreme Court finally allowed Texas to do our redistricting...but Virginia's GOP judges don't even try. Probably because they know it won't go anywhere and they will get the attention of the Left. But the amount of give up in the GOP just amazes me. We are just gonna watch Virginia, a fairly large state that used to be red, just completely fade into communistic blue governance. If you live in Virginia and you aren't a leftist supporter, please move. West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or Kentucky--any of those places want you. And In the case of Kentucky, they NEED you to help get rid of RINOs.

Republicans are weak though. They will not redistrict before the election.

Indiana is a perfect example of weak Rs. They could have added two seats to the Rs but voted not to.

Nebraska and Kansas could each add one seat but have not done so.

Rs after VRA could gerrymander about 15 or more seats but I doubt they do it, WEAK WEAK WEAK

The congressional district maps everywhere are total BS, they look like a spilled plate of spaghetti noodles. It should not be that way, it should include whole counties, and nothing else. Not specially and specifically drawn districts to ensure voting outcomes, R or D.

Virginia has been blue since the credit crisis of 2008 and it went over in a flash.

Electoral votes in the Presidential election have gone to Obama twice, Hillary, Biden, and Kamala Harris. The Senate seats have been blue since 2006.

If anyone was the trigger for this, it was the George W. admin and congress. The Virginia side ring suburbs of DC absolutely exploded in population after 9/11 with all the national security dollars flowing into the GWOT. It sucked in a lot of college educated professionals and shifted the voting patterns in a handful of years.
