Purg update. It's pretty warm by afternoon but the coverage is good and the skiing is fine.

Ugh

Guess I don't need to worry too much about no 4wd on the mom mobile going to taos.

My bad. Today I bought nonrefundable ski lessons for the kids over SB, jinxed us all.

Thats the temp outlook. CO is forecasted to pick up 15/20 Over the next 14/15 Days. The next week will be warm followed by colder temps day 7-14.

Snow base is 8500-9000 ft so it's gonna be wet and heavy until the temps drop but not terrible.

Where is going with that is you may have some gnar rain/slush/snow mixes at lower elevation and wet and heavy grabby snow in the higher country.

Quick If you can: partly to mostly cloudy, go amber? Right now I've been using a chomapop black in full Sun, but I'm concerned it will be too dark in the shade under some clouds.

Has anyone been to Snowbasin in the last week? We are headed there Friday. It seems that the temps are going to ruin any benefit from getting dumped on last week.

Just booked a couple of days for my son and I to ski Sun Valley, ID the latter part of spring break (18-21 Mar). Pretty pumped. Never been there but have heard great things about the resort and Ketchum.

Looking for ski recommendations. I want to pickup something new before next season, and will be eyeing end of season clear out models. May end up going with a custom from Sneva in Spokane, but tbd.

90-102mm under foot, 168-174 length. 5'7" 165lbs.
ability: not expert, but pretty advanced
I'm skiing 40-50 days this year, hoping that number increases

I have some Volkl Kendos that are my default rock ski and a set of Faction Prodigy that are 106mm width and kind of act as my powder/free skis. I'd like to have something that can be a somewhat 1-ski quiver to cover as many conditions as possible.

We are headed there Mar 9 for 4 days. It looks like they have a decent base, and most of their runs were open. There are some closures due to the changing weather. Let us know how it goes for you.

Rossi Sender Free 100. They're bright ass pink but slap.
They're the Best of the Bent's but cut chop WAY better. They float, they carve, They drive and theyre somehow stiff for a no metal ski w a solid turn radius. Off the top of my head I think they run in a 172 which sounds perfect. Personally they more you ski they longer you'll want so if it's something you plan on skiing into, go one size up from current. I prefer them to the Blackops 98 the Faction Studio 2 and the QST 100s. 100 is a just a solid all mountain rocky mountain resort rider width IMO. Not to fat but not to Skinny and Lets you run the whole hill without anxiety.

The Review above is one of the best ive ever seen for a ski. I need this guy in my shop. Wowzers.

Bayou or any others that work on skis and bindings a lot, what screwdrivers do you have? I want to have a designated backpack screwdriver and another one for my workbench.

Looks like the vast majority of the time a PZ #3 is what is needed.

I have a wiha pz3 I've had for 15 years that still works like new, and I use whatever big flathead screwdriver I grab out of the box first for anything requiring one. I don't carry tools on the mountain

I'm trying to get my wax tech bag outfitted for ski racing. That's the only time I'd really carry one to the mountain with me.

Granted, I don't think you can spit in any direction from the starting gate at a youth race without hitting someone that has a screwdriver on them.

Headed over to Lookout Pass after the oldest gets done with her ski practice. She's got 2 days of slalom racing this weekend.

This will be my first time skiing Lookout, wish they had some fresh snow, but it is what it is. Slalom conditions should be nice and firm, hopefully not an ice rink.

I saw NM snow two week forecast dropped overnight from 16" to 5". Bummer.

Am local native northern mountain NM - this is the type of year if we get moisture now (which it doesn't have that feel of any for a good while) it will be rain. No one can predict the weather more than a few days out. But, if I had to put my money on anything it would be that NM's ski season is almost done. Hope I'm wrong

Rain falling at Mt Ashland. It's pretty rough with a 16" base. Think this may be the last open weekend for us. Forecast looks pretty rough.

Purg was pretty good. Sadly, the snow is melting off fast but there has been a window where it was alright. The bottom gets mashed and slushy by the afternoon but up top to mid mountain is good by 11am or so when it softens a bit. Ice in the shaded runs can be an issue morning and later in the day. Chet's on lift 8 are a luge run basically. They groomed it and became a solid sheet of ice a couple days later.

I was happy though. Over 5 days I improved my skills with a lot of deliberate practice and had a good time,

Temperatures even in the mountains for the last week have been extremely warm. Where I'm at (6,800 ft) the temperature today is 71 F. The temperature at Taos Ski Valley currently is 54 F (snow is melting very fast so in two weeks even 16" would be nothing).

Bayou... just found some Meier Mustang Sally's (now the QuickDraw 80w) for my wife that have been on this MN shop's shelf for a few years. I pulled the trigger, look like a sweet ski and love supporting a USA handmade brand. You or anyone else have experience with Meier's?

Meier is a great brand, I'd like to rock them someday

Pretty slushy down low today but there was creamy goodness to be found on the top couple hundred feet of the mountain if you looked for it. And kachina spun today. Super fun day

Skied Keystone last week with my 11 yo. First day (Tuesday) I was a bit worried since I had never seen the mountain in that shape before - so much bare area. We typically stay in the trees as much as possible also.

Thankfully we got an inch overnight the first night that felt like much more than that and the following night was 6 inches that made for a lovely day last Thursday. I did have a bad spill coming out of the trees due to a slightly covered/dusted large rock I could not see that basically put the emergency brakes on my left ski and launched me forward.

All in all was a great 4 days of skiing! I did post some gear on the classifieds board I am selling now with my son outgrowing if anyone is in need.

I demo'd some Meier skis years ago when they had them on the mountain to try a few runs with. Really liked them, made from CO trees IIRC.
