No big deal.

Probably deserved.

So many #'s to choose from.

Probably deserved but not right now or in the near future. Just seems unnecessary to honor the guy who put you in the current roster hell you are in.

Eventually yes, of course...but for now ufck that fat POS and I hope they melt down in the playoff a couple of times and Durant leaves him for a better deal.

What was the big rush to make the announcement?

Did he want to beat the OKC and Nets ownership group?

At least wait on the announcement until Harden has walked away from the game for a few years. I guess this is something the Rockets organization does for key players. Olajuwon's number was retired on November 9, 2002 (after his final season with Toronto).

In my opinion.....this sort of news makes you look like a desperate ex trying to win someone back.

Anybody else feel like Harden may come back to Houston after his Net stint? Maybe by that time rockets have a few promising young players and he can recruit a few good veterans/other star?

I think Harden will be chasing a ring after his Nets stint. He will hop on the next 'super team'.
Harry Dunne

Who would've thought that on Harden's big return to Houston there wouldn't be a single TA post halfway through the 2nd quarter.

The home team is hanging tough so far. I wouldn't mind pulling this one off just as a kick in the nuts to harden and then losing every game the rest of the season and getting a top 4 pick.

John Wall playing great and Oladipo doing his best to make sure he has no trade value moving forward.

Would love to beat these guys but only having 8 tonight is going to hurt in the 2nd half.

Missing an out of bounds call when you're staring right at it is incredibly embarrassing, especially when it's not even close like that one
Harry Dunne

Wall playing almost great. He's making great moves and getting to the rim but missing a ton of layups.

6-16 shooting, 2-4 FT ain't gonna cut it

It's kind of sickening watching Harden play with energy and making tough shots after the way he sand bagged it so hard in the beginning of the season for us.

It wouldn't make me sad for him to not get a ring while on the Nets.

Great player and was fun watching him play for us, but man, the way it ended and his quote before the game today saying he hoped the Houston fans would show him love left a sour taste in my mouth.

I don't think there ever really was any.

No. I think there was frustration because the new guys wanted to win, and Harden wanted to bag and force a trade. Competing interests and not personal, I don't believe.

Houston franchises aren't that fortunate lately

Good explanation for why he has more value than expected.

Summary: With the expanded playoffs there are fewer true sellers. Absolute crap teams playing for the future usually won't trade young guys and don't have talented veterans, therefore Gordon might end up being one of the best players available.

Also he's playing pretty well & his contract is not THAT bad, with the final year highly unlikely to kick in.

I'm going to be a lot happier with this ishtshow if we can get something decent back for Oladipo, Tucker & EG.

This is why star are important. I know everyone likes to live in a fantasy land where the team you root for passes the ball 15 times during a possession before finally making a 10-foot midrange shot, but that's not how it works. Could James Harden have exited better? Sure, of course.

But the impact of that kind of player leaving has these kind of effects, where even proven stars like John Wall and Victor Oladipo who were brought in to replace that kind of wattage are already looking for an exit because the void in talent is too great to compete in today's NBA.

It's a star-driven league and no matter how much some of us don't like it, I'd rather deal with a fussy star employee than deal with a sinking ship.

The Lakers were bad for 10 straight years until LeBron decided the sign and they won a ring two years later. That's just the way it works.

100% agreed. What makes our current situation so perilous is that in recent NBA history you almost always have to have at least one top tier player to get a superstar to even consider your team in FA. We will likely have to find our next guy from the draft which is always a crapshoot.

I don't see a situation like either of the LA teams or Brooklyn where stars will band together and choose Houston as their destination so we are entering the no superstar wilderness and who knows when will come out the other side.

If we could get that lucky....my god. Let people take over terrible contracts and not have to give up anything else.

Thank next year and then 2022 summer have top picks plus be able to have money in free agency.

And why we really need to finish in the bottom 4 this year to potentially draft a future superstar. And then make the right draft pick.

The rebuild after Yao happened because of the trade for Harden, not because of all those draft picks in the 10-20 range.
WES2006AG

Absolutely, we need to make sure we tank as hard as we can. But even with that we could get screwed by the ping pong balls. If we end up not getting that top 4 pick this year the future looks even bleaker than where we are now.
YNWA_AG
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, I'm still optimistic that a rebuild could be short, because James could come back in 2-3 years of the nets win a title. His game should age where he still at least a low to mid level all star then.

Christian wood still is on his great contract in 22-23 and he has a great cap hold in 2023 if we wait to extend him until free agency-assuming he will stay.

We essentially only have 3 guys that are guaranteed to be on the team in 2023:
Tate
Wood
KPJ

We could easily could contend in 23 or 24 if harden resigns for not the max, able to land Suggs, Cade, kuminga, or green this year. Then trade for the Bradley Beal of that year.
Harry Dunne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ufck Harden. I don't want that fat selfish SOB back no matter how good he is.

Our best bet is to get back as much as we can for what we have left, draft well and hope Stone can find some under the radar studs like Wood. All it takes is one great move. We were lost in the wilderness after T-Mac/Yao and managed to become relevant with the Harden trade despite giving our best player (Kyle Lowry) away.

I'm sure the cavs are glad they didn't keep that logic so that they didn't pass on lebron coming back.

Sad part is 2/3 of our sports franchises now have to emulate Cleveland franchises instead of laugh at them.
