Also happens the other way too though.

Pelicans sat AD when he wanted out because they wanted him to stay healthy. Also was going to help their draft order the next year too.

Rockets resigned Mason Jones on a 10 day.

Sometimes he looks like a legit prospect, sometimes not so much...either way I'm glad we have him back for now.

This is true as well.

Hate the new way of doing things. Just don't show up to work and force your teams hand. Causing them to be weak in any negotiations.
Yeah and as a fan of the team it's natural to feel that way, and I agree, but...

Imagine you are unbiased and want the best thing equally for both the Rockets and Tucker. Or take it a step further and imagine you are Tucker. Like I said I agree with you and I don't like this new way of doing business, but like Beat said, no hate for Tucker without knowing the full story. Maybe he knows for a fact that teams are offering decent deals but that Stone is holding out...which to be fair is his job, but IMO Stone has stood pat too long and you can also understand where Tucker's clock is ticking and he's tired of trotting out there for a lottery team.

Agree. Like Jones and think he has potential. Would like to see him get some real minutes.

Yes, but the question I ask is what's best for the "league". Good players sitting because they want to go to a super team or competitor is bad because it a) worsens the brand of basketball being played and b) continues to further the "super team" concept. I'm concerned that eventually, and perhaps we're already there, but teams in smaller markets and teams in bigger markets will be stratified into terrible and good teams, respectively. Basically, will smaller market teams just become farm systems for the big boys.

NOLA is exciting with Zion and a few other people. But will Zion really be a NOLA lifer? Or is he just playing out for a bit until he can get to LA/NY/Miami/etc.

The NFL has had great viewership because of the parity amongst teams in the leagues. I think NBA has much less parity and would be concerned for average "casual" viewership on this kind of stuff.

I feel the same way. It's super disappointing to me and seems really childish.

No hate against Tucker to be honest. It seems this is the way basketball is going and it sucks.

I'm sure we'll never see this in the CBA, but it would be interesting to see the players reaction to including this in the next CBA: You decide you don't want to play anymore for the team, you don't get paid.

It seems like when it's time to negotiate a new CBA, owners are going to have to do some things to protect their teams better. This way of not playing until you're traded, while still getting paid and costing your teams negotiating power is ultimately bad for the owner and the team. I would think there would be some discussion in regards to the new CBA about protecting teams going forward.

Would at least like to see the team that buys the player out get cap relief and money from any team that signs a player that was bought out.

I'd also be fine if more of these teams played the game of not buying out the player until after the deadline of when it is too late to be on a playoff roster.(April 9th this year)

With KPJ & Wood we might not be that far away. Wr already have some good role players on the roster that are going to get solid minutes the rest of the way.

Stone is good. Need him to make some more strong moves here at the deadline, good draft picks, good offseason moves. My worry was that no one was going to want to play here, but with this good young core...

We may just need to pick up CP3 again.

For sure. Our chances at the #1 pick aren't that great though.

We've lost 15 in a row and are only 3.5 up on the worst team. Pretty sure we're about to trade every veteran we can get anything in return for.

So I'd say our chances are about as good as they could be.

The point is that we only have a 14% chance at getting Cade even if we get one of the bottom 3 spots

Bottom 3 each have a 14% chance, right? Not that great.

Yes, no isht, and my point was that this is as good of a chance as anyone has.

By your logic, no one is allowed to talk about getting him because no one has better than a 14% chance. Dare to dream you Debbie downers - it's just a conversation!

I didn't say anything about being "allowed" to talk about him. Just said our chances aren't good, which is true.

You're right.

You know what's also true is that being wrong isn't usually what makes someone a wet blanket.

I'm just messing with you but seriously, stop being a buzzkill. Hardly anything great is high-percentage. We've got a shot, we'll hope for the best and we'll see. We've got a good shot to keep our pick and to have a top 4 pick, and that's a great consolation prize.

This reminds me of when I was in college watching the Rockets. Getting all excited over a huge Steve Francis/Mo Taylor statistical sighting in a 15 point loss. Futures bright!

You won't be shocked that I was right there with you on Francis & Mobley. Not Taylor. He had cankles.

I was really pumped when Stevie came back a few years later, but tendinitis & freebasing had already taken their toll by then.

Stevie was exciting in his heyday. It is all ironic though because I've always viewed John Wall as a slightly better version of Steve Francis.

17 straight. Remember when people on this thread were trying to convince themselves the Rockets were actually better off without Harden (and D'Antoni).
They're actually the worst team in the NBA.

I imagine the people with those thoughts were not expecting this sort of roster once Harden left.

I am also not sure how anyone would have thought the Rockets would be better without Harden. You could clearly see a drop off when he was not on the court.

As an organization, I think we're better off without Harden. He didn't want to be here and we weren't going to win a championship with him. So might as well cut bait and start the re-build.
