Someone explain why NC State, which got back into the game with the press, didn't press on the last possession

This was a really dumb mistake. And why weren't they pressing the entire game? They may have won by 30.

And how did our press not work at all against Texas? I feel like we didn't try to press them very hard.

Two crappy teams who should be in the NIT.

They were dead with a minute to go and went completely away from what got them back in the game.

Noticed this live but didn't realize at the time he got all the way to be in great position as if he was a player with a regular ol' free throw incoming.

Because its tessus. Also least amount of wins to make the tournament. Also put one second back on the clock, Also call targeting. Corporate d bags love their logo for some reason. Horn envy.

Probably because if you press you run the risk of giving up an easy basket or fouling

Who is the idiot coach for the horns that ran on the court? Even the players knew better. Dumbass. If nc state quickly inbounds it, I think they have to call a t there.

That would have been disastrous and possibly caused them to lose the game. Oh wait letting Texas use all the clock and score lost the game. They got back into the game by pressing. I would have stuck with what was working.

Yeah, I hear ya, just trying to give the logic from the other side of not pressing on that play

I think most coaches would have stopped pressing in that situation, but there was definitely a strong case for continuing to press there since they had been so effective with it the last few possessions

Even if you give up an easy basket you still have time to come back and score yourselves

Teams (except for Bucky and a few others) don't believe in full court pressing, unless they have to.

Perfect example is A&M v Northern Iowa years ago .... We start the press when down by a billion with a few minutes left.... go on massive run... But once we tie it, everyone is told to go back... Then in OT, no more press. Of course we won that day, so I'm good with it.

When you watch a lot of college sports what's one of the never changing take aways? There are very few good coaches. Coaching decisions that lose games are inexplicable.

Going conservative and playing for OT isn't wise IMO.

Mentioned above, but summary from last night. How many games are these guys doing together?

Was thinking after that final shot, instead of burning the last TO there NCST could've just asked for clock review which would've stopped play long enough for coach to instruct a half court inbounds then TO which would've given them a better mid court look at buzzer beater
Prob something that should be more commonly used in that general situation

It was a one time thing. Barkley back to the studio for the remainder of the tourney, I believe.

I personally would've wanted nc state to keep pressing there but realistically I don't think they'd be mad about giving up the shot they did in the half court. It only came back to bite them bc mark hit a really tough shot

Feels like we should stop saying that these teams are getting their "first tournament win" or "first win this century."
I get it that it's officially part of the tournament, but feels weird as for a 16 seed to beat another 16.

Maybe this was said when they expanded it to 64 though.
JJxvi

Its a tournament game. A 1 seed gets credit for beating a 16. A 6 gets credit for beating an 11. It doesn't matter.

13-0 run let's go Miami OH.

I can't believe there was ever a debate should this team even get in.

Not only can they shoot lights out from 3 better than anybody but they can cut and dish and scrap.

ETA: They can also commit the dumbest fouls to get their stars in massive foul trouble smh.
