Since the 1985 (first year with 64 teams), there's only been 3 years where all 1-4 seeds won their first round game. Last year was one and went on to be the chalkiest tournament of all time probably.

If it happens AGAIN this year, the Madness might be over. And we're going to be left with March "Mildly Unexpected". And frankly, contraction SHOULD be on the table.

The 4 upsets from yesterday were

1. High Point winning. Which is a real upset. But High Point likely makes it in as one of the few "Group of 28" champion to a future SEC/Big 10 breakaway tournament anyway.
2. VCU beating UNC without UNC's best player. I'll still count this as a moderate upset.
3. The sips the richest (or 2nd) athletic dept in the country beating an LDS school without their 2nd best player and primary ball handler.
4. Us, the richest (or 2nd) athletic dept in the country beating a provincial religious school that most in the Bay Area have never heard of.

Yeah slim picking. I hope Hofstra Wright State or somebody pulls on (or more!) off today.

It all makes sense now that Santa Clara knocked out SMC in the conference tourney.
