Did Will Smith actually hit Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife? This was super awkward: pic.twitter.com/sUUiRGmwcJ

I'm hoping he kind of held back on purpose...because if not....what a little ***** punch that was for a grown man defending his wife's honor.

I admit to not knowing full context, but Will Smith's wife doesn't exactly deserve a ton of honor. That dude worshiped the ground JPS walked on and she shat all over it.
ETA: I DGAS about the Oscars but Will did a great job in King Richard.if anything, the man deserves a lifetime achievement award.

Chris should have said, "with a hit like that, no wonder you didn't win for Ali…"
It absolutely has to do with left or right. Only one of those sides has committed completely to the idea that "words are violence". That's the only way someone could convince themselves to get out of their seat and walk up on stage at an event being viewed live by millions of people and commit an actual act of violence against someone who made a joke, however poor in taste it may have been.Hincemm said:

If it's fake I'll give Rock some credit, his reaction trying to move on after Will Smith was cussing at him from his seat was pretty convincingBigfoot Is Real said:
That looked fake to me after multiple viewings. Looked similar to how wrestlers perform their slaps.

It was a surreal moment that seemingly no one knew how to react to- as per Scott Feinberg on Twitter, Smith was comforted by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry during a commercial break. Smith later returned to the stage as he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard, giving a tearful speech about protecting his family, saying "love makes you do crazy things," and apologizing to the Academy and his fellow nominees.
During the commercial break, Will Smith is pulled aside and comforted by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry, who motion for him to brush it off. Will appears to wipe tears from his eyes as he sits back down with Jada, with Denzel comforting Jada and Will’s rep by his side. pic.twitter.com/uDGVnWrSS2

He's smart for not punching him, I think it would be a lot worse right now. A lot of people are brushing it off as no big deal because of the way Rock was able to just move on with the show (albeit it a little shook up trying to do so).redline248 said:
I don't understand why so many keep calling it a punch

Authority? You realize Will Smith was laughing at the joke and then when he saw his wife was not he basically committed career suicide. If you didn't know his wife was sleeping around on him and he does nothing about it and only saw tonight, who would you think wears the pants in that relationship?YouBet said:
I just heard about this. I guess it's real. That just tells me Smith is embarrassed about agreeing to let his wife screw other men and he was trying to reclaim some authority here.
And it was spectacularly embarrassing for him and makes him look worse. Granted he will probably be held as a hero....somehow....and you will never see roasting type comedy again.
There's definitely some over compensating here followed by emotional instability later on in the show. This **** is crazyStat Monitor Repairman said:
