To be honest that GI Jane joke was pretty lame. That movie is 25 years old.

Will should have just shook his head. He probably thought the joke meant something else?

It's the world's largest collection of self-worshiping narcissistic sociopaths. It's kind of a chicken/egg thing, but I think most of them are driven to the profession and lifestyle initially because of narcissistic motivations and then the money and fame and stress and pressure pours fuel on the fire and many of them genuinely lose their minds and become sociopaths with scrambled eggs for brains...and you end up transforming from seemingly good natured and well adjusted Jada Pinkett/Will Smith from the 90's to the absolute freak shows that they are now. Sean Penn. Alec Baldwin. Could go on and on. The scary thing is...it seems as if the crazier and more sociopathic these people get, the better they become at acting. But then again, a large part of being a sociopath is acting.

To be fair, I think a lot of times it's a default reaction to laugh at these things before fully processing the jokes...there are cameras all over that room and at any given time you have to just assume you are being recorded for reaction. Remember, these people are totally fake...they're nothing like you and me.

it's amazing how the perspective toward comedians has shifted over the past 20 years of my life.

Anyone who listens to/enjoys Chris Rock (or DOZENS of other comedians of his ilk) would find his comment last night far from "poor taste" compared to some of the stuff he has said over the years.

Honestly, this liberal woke BS seriously threatens to ruin comedy if something is not done about it. I realize I might get blasted for "bringing politics to this board", but many high profile Comedians from all ends of the political spectrum agree with this.

Can't wait for Rock's next Netflix special where he just destroys their entire family.

I would've had no problem if Will had just yelled what he said after the slap from his seat and never gotten up. Or something along the lines of "that's over the line man, watch it." As many others have said, what is reasonable for him to do at an awards show and what would be appropriate had this happened between the two of them at a bar are two completely different things.

I think that's already happened. Several high profile folks have commented in the past that they no longer do shows on college campuses because woke kids can't handle jokes.

Kathy Griffen is actually correct on this in that this event will make comedy even more sterile. Just one more reason to play it safe if you think someone is going to attack you.

Rogan and a comedian touched on this recently. They were trying to come up with the last good, R rated comedy and having a really hard time coming up with one. It's been years.

Plus, Jada Smith isn't some housewife from Poughkeepsie. All these people saying Will Smith was "defending her honor" ... she's a celebrity and as such, she's fair game at the Oscars.

Today's crowd would need to be hospitalized after a blast by Don Rickles.

Oh no, I'm well aware of Chris Rock's style. I find a lot of his stuff funny. Not all of it, but he's a talented comedian. In the context of hosting a prestigious program like The Oscars, i still think that was done in poor taste. It's not some late-night comedy bit.

And given Jada Smith's condition, I think that was a poor choice. Not on the level of making fun of someone with cancer...but getting into that sphere.

It just seems like there's much material right now, why go there?

Yes, we should continue to do jokes on diabetes, obesity, glasses, goiters, old age, boob size, bladder control, botched plastic surgery, eczema, but avoid the topic of balding, unless it is a joke at a man who is balding.

Makes a difference to me whether he knew she has a condition or not. I think the vast majority of people just thought she was the crazy type that would just shave their head for the f of it. Pretty sure her daughter has rocked that look too in the past. She's definitely gotten so much plastic she's almost unrecognizable.

In terms of prestige, you had one host (not wanda or amy...forget her name and really hadn't heard of her) dress up as tammy faye (dated reference) as a bit; so much for prestige. i wouldn't consider that particularly prestigious. i might further argue that part of the issue here is how these a-listers think that it is such an honorable event.

and i didn't know jada had alopecia. wonder if chris rock did? "all diseases matter" but it's not like it's cancer or a grave/fatal disease. hell, think back to the magic johnson/hiv jokes that still go on to this day.

at the end of the day, i'm fine with will taking him to taks backstage or even yelling like he did from his seat. but up on stage and a slap are much more over the line then chris' meh joke.

Singling out someone's wife for being fat or having a weird skin condition would be pretty bad form. I have never seen a comic joke about how fat a woman in the audience is or what skin or health condition she has. I would never find that funny TBH. Would piss me off if I brought my wife to a comedy show and a comedian started ragging on her appearance or flaws.

Now jokes about that stuff in general? Sure, make it funny and I'll laugh at just about anything. '

I still think Chris Rock didn't know she has alopecia.

Never insinuated he was. But in the context of this being a 'prestigious' award show and having her and Will right there in audience...with Will likely about to receive the next award...it seems like a very poor call.

Could I see CR using it on one of his comedy specials? Absolutely. But that's not what this was. Context matters.

I think he crossed a line, even if it was subtle.
