I thought I read somewhere that Kevin Costner did NOT stand and applaud when Will won. If true, that's awesome. But I haven't confirmed that. Costner now keeps reminding me of Gary Cooper and I like both of them, regardless of if Costner stood up or not.

This week is the first time I have seen people regularly describe her as hot. I've always thought she was wildly unattractive.

She single-handedly ruined the Gotham tv show with her performance, if you want to call it that.

I thought she was hot in Nutty Professor, but this was a quarter century ago.

Less hot in Scream 2.

i wonder if they'll essentially punt and just say he's not kicked out, but is banned from attending the ceremonies.

Something tells me they'll ***** out and just suspend him for a year, though he should be expelled, IMO.

Is he going to be getting any acting roles? Maybe he'll only be a producer? Maybe he's not expelled, but maybe never invited back. (Clearly, I don't know if that's how it works)

At first I didn't think it would impact him that much, but that image of him slapping and then yelling and Rock (twice) is hard to forget.
It may be hard to get anything that's not a blockbuster type movie. Depends on how flaky Hollywood will be on this. If they stick to their guns, and he's unofficially banned from the big awards shows (Oscars/GGs), will a studio want him in a movie if there's a chance he'll taint the entire production when awards season comes?

Dunno. Kind of depends on how Hollywood takes it. There were a lot of people upset about it and everything he did after. There are members who have said they'll never vote for anything he's in again, so anyone looking to make a run at awards is going to have to think twice about taking on that baggage and handicap.

And it's a huge impact to his persona and brand. I, and I assume everyone, used to think he was a pretty nice guy and enjoyed seeing him in things. Now I think he's an ***hole, especially after seeing clips of him making similar jokes about other people. And honestly, David Spade and Dana Carvey are right: he seemed upset about a lot of other stuff and really just took it out on Rock in front of the entire theater and 15 million people watching. And he really didn't even take any real responsibility. He gave 0 ****s about Chris Rock until Monday morning when he realized the fallout, and even that apology was hollow.

Even as a producer he may have trouble because there may be plenty of actors and actresses who won't want to be associated with him. Like I said, it really depend on how the rest of Hollywood takes it and how much of a pariah this makes him. Maybe he sits out for a couple of years or something and comes back or maybe it does nothing.

Not saying he'll never work again, but he's going to have to take some time off. Gibson was essentially blacklisted and persona non grata for years because no one really wanted to work with him. It may be the same with Smith. Maybe not as long, but he'll definitely have a break.

I haven't seen King Richard, but I did see something that implied that this role was very hard on him (like heath ledger/joker type into character/strain) I didn't look at it further because so many things about this make me want to roll my eyes all the way back into my head it's so dumb.

Agreed. We have short memories. Chris Brown literally beat the crap out of Rihanna and left her face bruised and bloodied. The pics were made public. He took some anger management classes, did some interviews and apologies, and he is still one of the most popular artists in the US.

- In the next couple of weeks, Smith will either be permanently kicked out of or suspended for X amount of years from the Academy (I'm going with the latter).

- He'll then do a big Oprah rehabilitation interview here in the next two or three months, where he apologizes profusely, gives us a bit more of a peek at what he's been going through mentally, with Jada, the pressures of fame, etc. Will be sympathetic, most will forgive him.

- He won't book another movie for the rest of 2022. He'll say he's taking a break from acting to clear his head, get right, etc, but we all know it'll be because he's waiting for the climate to mostly cool. And then, at some point in 2023, a streamer like Netflix will cast him in something relatively big and dumb - something in that Ryan Reynolds zone, that has zero awards potential - that hits the service in 2024, and will be a ratings hit, if only because of morbid curiosity.

- This will pave the way for his recently-announced I Am Legend sequel with Michael B. Jordan, which will hit in 2024/25, and the Will Smith comeback will be in full effect.

- The "loophole" to his Academy suspension will then see Smith finally make the jump to TV, starring in a dramatic limited series, one in which he's nominated for an Emmy.

- His, say, five-year ban will be lifted shortly after, his image completely rehabilitated, his star power returned, and he'll suddenly be in Oscar-worthy fare again toward the end of this decade.

What are the real implications of suspension / expulsion from the Academy? Does that basically mean he's ineligible to win an Award or attend the ceremony and otherwise uninhibited? Or is there a practical implication to his ability to work apart from just being persona non grata?
TCTTS

Can't vote or attend Academy events, and then, yeah, any movie that has Oscar aspirations in the acting category won't touch him. Maybe even no Oscar-caliber films whatsoever.

That was 13 years ago. It doesn't make it any more or less bad, but the way the world reacts to things now is very different than the way the world reacted to things in 2009.

I will say, as more has come out, I have lost a ton of respect for Will.
He was always the good guy, and I honestly believe most people, if it had just been the slap with a tearful apology, and reaching out directly to Chris immediately, it would have died down much quicker, most people understand a quick snap and behaving out of character, defending your wife etc, even if it was 100 percent wrong. But everything that happened speaks to a self entitled, possibly just self absorbed man.
First the slap.
Then allegedly being told to leave and refusing.
Then giving his tearful "apology" without even mentioning the guy he assaulted (and don't get me started on the reaction to his win in the room).
Then going out and partying that night like nothing happened (again, sycophants gonna sycophant).
Then the next day you get the publicist apology. But based on Chris's limited comments last night, he still hasn't reached out to him (despite saving him from jail). Anyone can write a press release, be a man and really own it.

Just can't see a good person behaving that way.

And Zon the flip side, my respect for Rock has gone up. I don't think the joke was at all appropriate, but how he handled it on stage, afterward, and since then has been really really good.

No question he'll take his little break and will make his return just like many scumbags before him.

We should probably all be more sympathetic toward a guy that has to take a number to have sex with his own bald wife.

If Will Smith would just admit it was all pent-up rage from having to watch that last Matrix movie a few times, I'd forgive him tomorrow.
