It absolutely has to do with left or right. Only one of those sides has committed completely to the idea that "words are violence". That's the only way someone could convince themselves to get out of their seat and walk up on stage at an event being viewed live by millions of people and commit an actual act of violence against someone who made a joke, however poor in taste it may have been.

Right now and last night, twitter is full of hypocrites who regularly tear down and make fun of others and would be crying foul if one of their targets slapped them, yet are now defending Smith.

I was just thinking "when keeping it real goes wrong"! Perfect example.

I'm seeing VERY few people actually defend Smith. I'd say it's like 98% against him, at least among Film Twitter and in the general media.

Will....it works better if you're not on camera laughing at the joke until you realize your wife got her panties in a wad.

While not surprising, it's so funny to me people above would attempt to make this a left/right political point. That is so hilarious and such a sign of our times where everything has to have a political slant, but ESPECIALLY if it's something you think proves a point about the hated other side.

As a moderate, it is surprising to me to see someone I assume is on the right making fun of the left for standing up for their wife - perhaps this is due to the Trump/Cruz precedent where you can insult someone else's wife and just make that person your lackey as a result. But historically I would have thought someone on the right would make fun of a man on the left for being "weak and too scared to even defend your wife". These things are funny to observe.

Part of my problem is that it is comedy. Thin skinned people like Will are what ruin it for everyone else. There is NOTHING that is or should be off limits for comedy. It's art. It's a means of dealing with it. One of the last true hero's of this is Ricky Gervais. His comedy has no limit. It makes me quite uncomfortable at times but it forces you to deal with that. Chris rock is similar. Either way. Will smith owes Chris and the entire community a massive apology for being a professional with no ability to read a situation or properly handle it. He ruined someone else's moment due to his and his wife's selfishness. Still disappointed.
