I just realized the vibe I was getting watching last night, especially the scene where Dunk makes some eggs in the medieval skillet. It's Shrek and Donkey!!! Even the music kind of has a Shrek vibe.

That's intentional! After the premiere, HBO did a post show interview with Ira Parker and he says Shrek specifically was an inspiration! The opening scene where Dunk defecates immediately after the title card was an homage to Shrek when that movie opens with Shrek taking a page from the "Fairy Tale" book to wipe his ass in the out house!

I have been blown away how good Ansell is. The kid has chops. Does not come off as a child actor. The comedy aspect of this requires another level of skill, and he's delivering all along the way from his lines to his expressions.
Related q, where does this fall in the chronology of the other shows?Mega Lops said:bonfarr said:
What is the timeframe covered by the existing novellas? I'm wondering is season 2 will take a major time leap requiring a new actor for Egg.
1.5-2 years. The same actor could still play Egg for next season.

I don't know how someone complains about this show and thinks house of dragon is any better. I quit HOTD after one season because I didn't care about a single character in that ****ed up family. This is much smaller in scale but the characters are already way better.

For the non book readers (please don't reply if you know), do y'all think Dunk was actually Knighted?
We're told that Ser Arlan knighted him just before he died but we don't actually see it and we have already seen flashbacks that contradict what Dunk has said:
He tells Plummer that Ser Arlan always meant to Knight him (we see a flashback where Arlan says no such thing).
And the way he replies to Ser Steffon Fossoway about the sword being 'his by rights' was odd and defensive.
Dunk is obviously an honest person, but it would be an interesting plot point to tell the story of this 'legendary' and noble Knight that was actually never made a Knight.

HOTD is slow, takes itself way too seriously & has unlikable arseh*le characters.

Season 2 could have been very good, but instead they just decided to not progress the story hardly at all. And now they've come out and said they're going to wrap up the show in 2 more seasons. Very baffling decision making. I don't have high hopes for them being able to wrap up the remaining story that needs to be told in only 2 seasons..

Didn't read the books but I'd say the show made it clear that he didn't knight him by doing all but saying "he didn't knight him"

I like both, but this one is definitely more "fun".

One could make an argument is that maybe Dunk's entire character is built around the fact that living chivalrous and by the values make a knight, not the act of being "knighted"
