Which is why the shame or impact of them being on the losing side was brought up. And not many see it that way. There is no real downside to Dunk getting killed for them, even quickly. It's just not that big of a plot hole, if at all.

Let's back up a bit and remember some background context about trial by combat in the GoT world. Maybe that will help.

Trial by combat stands apart from trials adjudicated by men. It is supposed to be a direct appeal to the Seven Gods by the accused for justice when all other avenues are hopeless. It is regarded by the devout as a sacred and honorable plea of last resort. A knight who demands trial by combat is literally asking for divine judgment.

Once Dunk asserted his right to trial by combat, Aerion asserted his right to Trial by Seven, which angered even his father Maekar. Everyone saw this for what it was - a cynical, cowardly attempt to stack the deck against Dunk. The Kingsguard were obliged to fight for Aerion, so they had no choice. Maekar naturally joined his son. Ser Steffon seized the opportunity for a lordship. Against that was the whole of the rest of the knights in attendance for the tourney, most of whom probably knew that Dunk was just protecting Tanselle from Aerion. They had also witnessed Aerion's deliberate murder of Ser Humfrey's horse in the joust. Dunk appealed to "true knights" to fight with him. Even so, it took Baelor joining to make seven for Dunk and prevent Dunk from being determined guilty by default.

Wow, I guess it was just good planning on their part to have him impaled in precisely the place that wouldn't insta kill him then!
Baelor advised them to use longer tilting lances in order to have a better chance of unhorsing Aerion's team. It would have worked if Dunk had been more experienced at jousting.

I'll be excited for the special edition re-edits to come out in sequential order so the red grass/flea bottom time waster is not when the good stuff happens.

Kid playing Egg might have let slip that Henry Cavill is in S2.

Ira Parker on his vision of the series…

Quote:

"I hope George keeps writing these," Parker continued. "The truth isand I've pitched this to HBO with a couple very polite eye rollsI want to do four or five now with Egg as a kid. Then, I want to come back in ten years and do four or five more seasons with Egg the Prince. And with real Dexter [Ansell] and real Peter, just the age that they are at that point. Then, we'll come back ten years after that and do well, Egg the adult. So, it would be over the course of their lifetime. And mine too."

This show has been fantastic.

I've only read the graphic novel, which didn't have anything about his time in Flea Bottom (the flashback), but it did have this little blurb that provides a little bit of context as to why they did that.

Paraphrasing:

"Ser Duncan the Tall was going to lose to Aerion. He needed to be Dunc from Flea Bottom to win the fight".

Rewatched the episode again last night and when Egg barked back to Dunk, man. Peak callback. That's my lil bro right there.

I feel like the feasibility of this could be challenging, but hell yes.

Agree. It would be cool to happen, suck to wait 10 years between series, and you would have to have the actors all in and hope they do t change their mind or wind up otherwise blacklisted.

This will never happen. It's like what Tarantino floated about Kill Bill. Too much time will pass, too many variables in place, it's just a good thing to talk about to keep people engaged and interested.

The days of five-plus seasons for a drama series are dead and gone. Even if they kept all the actors, source, and tone true for 15 years, I'd probably stop watching after three seasons. Such is the nature of a the current TV viewer. Too many other things to keep our attention.

Linklater did something similar with Boyhood and the result was striking. Film made over 7 years with cast and crew meeting for a month once per year. In the film you actually see the actors age over time.

When the kid graduated from High School in the end of the movie I actually got a lump in my throat like it was my nephew graduating.

Gotcha, thanks. That gray hair ages a dude

That's one of my very few minor complaints with the show so far. Maekar looks older than Baelor.

In reality the actor who plays Maekar is 49 and the actor who plays Baelor is 48 so you've got a point although I think the grey hair of Baelor is supposed to age him up.

I didn't realize the actor who plays Maekar also played Ole Munch from the most recent season of Fargo, pretty memorable character from that season:

These last 2 episodes feel like peak GoT. What a great series this has turned out to be, especially for those of us who didn't know the story beforehand.
