So, I guess the biggest loser of the night is "The Irishman"?

0-10 for the night.

It's was mediocre.

OUATIH was my runaway favorite. Really enjoyed Parasite though so I'm definitely not upset.

I really loved it but it was not the BP imo.
I thought it was actually.

Super engaging and well told story, incredibly well shot, relevant themes, great performances, and went in some really surprising places. The best thing I saw this year IMO.
This is exactly how I feel about it.

For me, it was the film that had me the most engrossed throughout when I saw it. I wouldn't have been mad if half the others had won though. Last year left such a horrible taste in my mouth and this year is the exact opposite.

Watched the first hour and was bored out of my skull.

If I had been watching it in a theater I would have gotten up and left.

Academy hates Netflix.
They saw right through the whole "released in select theaters for a few weeks" strategy.

Parasite is the first foreign film to win Best Picture!
And it should've been Roma last year.

Great win for Brad Pitt. He has long deserved an Oscar for an actual performance. It was clear he was the only bright spot in OUATIH.

I thought from the beginning once upon a time in Hollywood was a terrible fan fiction alt history take on the Tate/Labianca murders. I know this is a wildly unpopular opinion but don't care.

Shocking that I agree with weirdos who decide these awards seeing it only won one major award. Good to see I was right: people loved Pitt's role but saw the rest of the movie for rubbish.

Except that the Academy gave a major acting award for the first time tonight to an actress in a Netflix movie.

Would have been interesting so see if OUATIH was released in December what would have happened. I think it was a victim of peaking too soon.

Eh, it was OK, I enjoyed some parts. Very classic elements and modern cinematography. Doesn't have to be the best every time for me to enjoy it. Best movie of the year? Not even close.

I really enjoyed OUATIH but it felt a bit niche to me to win Best Picture. Was hoping for Parasite but I would've been totally good with OUATIH and to a lesser extent 1917.

I got mocked for even suggesting this sentiment, but after the oscars I imagine it will be more quiet. It was a meh fan fiction movie with food acting. Good description, thanks.

Que the Hollywood insiders to tell us how we just didn't get it and they don't care because Hollywood.

Was hoping for 1917, but Parasite is a worthy winner. Would have been fine with Jojo or OUATIH, too. 2019 had some great movies.
