Breaking News: Cable TV Program viewership is declining!!!!

(Applies to everything, including the Super Bowl)

I don't think it's just the trends of cable contracts declining, etc. It's a lot of things. I think award shows in general aren't as appealing to younger audiences as they are older ones because people see these folks all the time on social media, etc.

Before this era, there was a sort of excitement to get stars in the room for the nation to see them, especially the Oscars.

The Oscars could do a lot better though with some simple changes to bring some of that prestige back.

Leave politics out of these award shows. That would help.

you'd be surprised at how few people actually care enough to keep from watching, that would have been watching otherwise.

Most folks are fine with politics as long as they're politics that agree with their own.

And film, sports, and music have been interwoven with politics for years, despite some trying to make you believe that this is a recent phenomenon.

Save for Phoenix's rant, which I admittedly tuned out and don't remember most of, the only other political message I heard all night was Pitt's John Bolton comment, which wasn't that controversial, considering a number of people on both sides of the isle seem agree that it's standard practice to, you know, allow witnesses at a trial. I didn't see that as "sh/tting on red America" at all. I'm with you that celebs can certainly be sanctimonious blow hards, but I honestly felt that the political messaging was incredibly tame last night.

I think you'd be surprised the other way around. I used to watch it, but I got tired of getting lectured to by attractive people with HS degrees. I know there are plenty like me.

The academy awards ratings have been going down for years. NFL ratings went down during the kneeling BS, and went back up as that went away. The phenomena is not isolated to the Oscars.

What these people should realize is that they are there because they look good and are good at playing pretend. They don't have any more expertise in economics, history, politics, etc. than teenagers, so they should probably refrain from embarrassing themselves with their opinions on the matter.

I know more about economics, history, politics, etc. than teenagers. Most Hollywood stars do not.

I don't lecture people on on here or anywhere else about quantum mechanics or how to rebuild a transmission, because I don't know about that stuff. That's the difference.

If Hollywood stars want to throw out their opinion on movie making, have at it. They know more about that than any of us.

This is a huge generalization that I don't agree with at all. Are there plenty of stars who yap and yap about crap they know nothing about? Absolutely. But there are also tons who essentially make their causes their second jobs - with the vast amount of free time they have between gigs - and devote that time to studying the issues, sitting on boards, traveling to locations of interest, etc. You may not agree with some of their causes, but there are plenty of stars who *are* knowledgeable and *do* walk the walk. You can't just sit there and say every celeb is a moron with nothing more than a high school degree, because that's not even close to the truth.

I was kind of upset with Toy Story 4 winning best animated film. Don't think it is even in the same realm as Toy Story or Toy Story 3, and it is sad to see it as an Oscar winner while much better films (Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, Lego Movie, Moana, Your Name., Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc.) didn't win and didn't even get a nom in some cases. It's hard to buy Pixar's pitch of we make movies for families when they are pumping out several sequels for $$$ now.
Agreed, and I think it is an absolute travesty that Klaus didn't win. They used a never before seen form of animation, and the story was lightyears better than Toy Story 4. I am still in shock that this film was actually hand drawn.
