Jonah goes from basically a semi-moral compass for the family to murdering the guy looking into the death of the uncle he was so distraught about. You put that on the writer's room whiteboard, laugh at how idiotic it is, and cross it off.

Should've faded to black with one gun shot

Then pause… Then Marti say the word 'Jonah' before another shot

Implying maybe it was Wendy first and then Marry second

Now.. in reality the plan is for the kids to go into crime as the shot was intended for the Detective, but a second shot to finish him off could be implied as much as it was for Marty if they had done that

Would have been great!

Finally finished it.

Overall, somewhere in the B- to B+ range. Very, very entertaining at times and very well acted at times. The writing had a bunch of head scratchers and the believability factor was way off many times, especially later in the series. I didn't hate Wendy nearly as much as most.

Ending was meh. Weird that a show known for unexpected gun shot deaths goes for such a predictable sequence.

Finished last episode with my wife last night. Always difficult to accept any ending to a series you spent so many hours with, but this was just as good as any other ending they could have chosen.

Really sucked that Ruth had to go, but it left no doubt that the Byrde's are no longer slaves to the Mexican cartel... they are the Mexican cartel. I thought the last scene was pivotal because the kids always had a choice and it was reflected the entire series as they struggled with their part in it all. But they left no doubt at the end, they are all in on the family business!

I liked it.

Am I the only one that thinks that Jonah didn't shoot Mel, rather he shot the cookie jar and effectively destroyed the evidence?

I'm really surprised nobody has brought them up in the thread. Seems really obvious to me.

How does shooting the cookie jar destroy the evidence? All the bone with DNA Material doesn't just evaporate. Now you have ashes with bone in the ground itself, likely even more evidence against the Byrde family.

I'm rewatching this from start and I forgot ENTIRELY about Wendy's affair in the first bit of the show.

Hands down the most shocking moment of the show was Wendy's boyfriend smacking the pavement.

After the show's conclusion, I think the most disturbing part for me was how calm and normal the family acted while laundering cartel money under constant threat of death. Sure it is all fiction, but the show did a great job of making me suspend belief and feel anxiety while these people could deal with crime so easily. The seasons got a bit worse but still good overall.

I think that was the point of the show

They started out as good people making a small error in judgment

And to cover that they had to do more crimes

And before you know it, they are working actively with the cartels and allowing people to die

The biggest point is that… These are actually not good people

Which is why the ending was perfect

They killed a cop to prevent him from busting them - and it's not just the parents, the kids are all in on this too

The show captured the process from good people to bad people

Imagine how ruthless they would be if there is another season - they would have no problem pulling the trigger to protect their family

It was really interesting to feel myself go from liking Marty to hating him, because I like Jason Bateman so much as an actor and on Smartless. Evetually you're just rooting for Three to get outta that town alive.

watching it again, I forgot that his partner was going to turn him in, how vindictive he was (eh mostly rightly so) and like how out of sync him and wendy were from the very beginning. He was money laundering and not just caught up in the mix. He was the bad guy,

I just really like jason bateman a whole lot. whoops.
