I'd have to go back to the initial episode where they were talking about that, but they definitely mention party lines. I don't know if they say specifically who is which though.
Yeah, I got the feeling the Byrd's were definitely leaning left. But as a political operative/power player, they maybe just helped whomever could help them.

I think she talked about working for the Obama campaign for Senator at one point.

Was I just reading too much into it or were they trying to foreshadow a sexual relationship between Sam and Wendy's dad's girlfriend?

I don't know if any of you all spent any time on the political board between 2008-2017 but the Byrdes were a perfect representation of the shadowy "Chicago" political machine that helped Obama become POTUS.

yeah, I think they made it pretty obvious that she was a sexual predator towards young naive gambling addict Sam

he got on the bus, dude, don't worry. He's going to get it. Might be joining a wierd bus traveling group, but he's probably the luckiest person on the show.

I don't remember if they mentioned Obama specifically, but she was a Democrat operative and when she came back after Charlotte was born, they ignored her. There was that implied resentment towards her kids because her career didn't work out.

I hated the ending but the broken glass door was a flashback to Jonah shooting out the window after Ben died. When I saw the "you owe me $2" guy with the goat I knew how it would end. And I don't recall Ben wanting a goat farm. I just figured Ruth put his ashes in there because for her he was the GOAT. Maybe a movie is in the works. Still some loose ends to tie up.

They didn't notice the broken glass at all - or the breeze or outdoor noise it would've made? Especially knowing the cartel and others may be after you - didn't like ending like that at all. What if the PI had a warrant for their arrest - how much karma would that be - they made him a cop again and he uses that power to turn them in!

Last episode - tried too hard to be breaking bad/better call Saul, or just heavily influenced by BB/BCS. Using different, very BBish camera angles (camera in the safe, camera under the car, etc) and what a coincidence that bad cartel person Camilla and bad cartel person in BCS Lalo used the same interrogation technique - "tell me again" "tell me again about that day"

I guess like someone else said in the thread, the evidence the PI got would be inadmissable in court because his dumb arse broke into their house.

The PI screwing up the evidence was one thing and it bothered me.

The broken door wasn't that big of a deal. My people are from that area and it is pretty common to have your windows open at night. Add in the fact that they came home from a party and the noise and airflow from the broken window didn't really bother me.

Jurisdiction.

The cop was placed in Chicago. He has no jurisdiction in the Ozarks.....and technically he committed a crime by breaking and entering into a home that did not belong to him.

Jonah was legally justified in killing someone that was trespassing in his home and threatening his family.

Great series, ending wasn't the worst.

I think they should have had some Bob Seger "Still the Same" playing over the final scene.

It was an okay ending, not exactly what I wanted/expected.

What I was hoping for was everything leading up to a disaster, ideally in the penultimate episode. The last episode I wanted them to bring it back to the end of the first season, when Marty planned to escape with the family. I always expected Marty to have a plan to GTFO of town, he has to realize there's too many potential pitfalls in the world they're trying to navigate between the cartel, FBI, and politics. I thought he and Wendy would potentially separate, and Marty gets the kids out while Wendy's ambition/hubris drives her to stay.

Overall I still really enjoyed the show, it's not like it was the last episode of GOT.

inadmissible or not, it would open up a can of worms that would easily sink their political aspirations...which was clearly the most important thing to Wendy.

They got out of way more difficult situations than a former addict and fired cop breaking into their house and stealing some dust in a ceramic goat that he claims links them to a disappearance.

you're right...usually by paying off the person or getting rid of them.

They chose both options here.

These last 7 episodes were terrible. Stopped this show too quickly and tried to do way too much in the last 7. Not happy with the ending.

Marty will never forgive himself

I wasn't terribly satisfied by the ending either. The cartel lady could still kill them and probably wants to so there's definitely more to tie up. The PI seemed like a weird choice to come back for a gotcha moment, only to be gotten rid of.

Marty is a complete ******* beta-male. That's the unforgivable flaw in the entire series for me.
swimmerbabe11

if any show could be used as proof that the alpha/beta male term is stupidest concept humankind has ever tried to use to categorize humans, I think this show would work well for that.

Pretty sure he handled himself the entire show more "alpha" than most people would. Unless you'd rather be a dead alpha instead of whatever he was.

He was with everyone except his wife which was my point, but TA edited out the word I used that would've conveyed the message more clearly.

So I was way off on my theory of the car crash foreshadowing the end.

The only thing I'm having trouble with is who sent Nelson to Ruth's place the night he was killed? I know he was following her and she went to the Sheriff's office knowing he was behind her. But who had him following her and what was he doing at her place?

Finished last night. Enjoyed the series very much. Some of the plot twists were done very well in all the seasons. Some not so well but that's par for most multi season shows.

Would have preferred Wendy take to bullet maybe from that priest guy (unexpectedly) but of course it had to be Ruth. I'll just say that actress was perfect for that role and deserves a lot of credit for her skills.

Did Jonah kill the cop? Did Tony Soprano get whacked?

Anyway good series.

Finally caught up and agree with some of the other views. I enjoyed the ride but it was also pretty laughable by the end in a lot of ways. I thought they did the best with Ruth's arc. I guess they accomplished the goal of the message being "everyone around them dies but they keep going" thru to the end. But still felt pretty unsatisfying. The PI thing at the end was so incredibly shoehorned. I guess he got that signature finally, but instead of Helen's, it was Buck Shot.

The whole plot device of "the foundation" and them somehow running the midwest never made one bit of sense

I just finished last night too. Disappointed Wendy made it thru. But, with the way it ended, equally as disappointed a Journey song wasn't playing at the end.
