And can someone remind me why anyone was ever worried or scared about the KC mob?
Bombing the offices of Byrde Enterprises wouldn't concern you?
Maybe, but apparently you can also shoot the boss' son's dick off without retribution other than the boss showing up alone, unarmed, and demanding money that was owed anyway. Then, of course you just shoot the boss. Without retribution. Then the dickless new boss will continue to do business with you. Without retribution. Yes, I understand Frank Jr. is incompetent but even Frank Sr. seemed to have lost his bite towards the end. If this organization is so formidable, how are they just letting Jr assume the role of leader? Perhaps someone from within will challenge for leadership and offer the Byrds additional headaches moving forward.
Frank Sr. going to Darlene's alone to threaten her, knowing her past, was something that really bothered me. Mob guys know there is power in numbers, which Darlene doesn't have. Why the hell would you go alone?
This easily bothered me the most about this season. This crazy lady shoots your kid's d*** off and has no qualms blowing someone's head off without hesitation, and you waltz into her house and start berating her with no protection??? Much less watch her walk into another room.

That and Officer Nix getting killed and the whole town being pretty "meh" about it. Otherwise the writing has been solid.

Just finished Part 1. While there were some things that bugged me this season (see prior post) I thought the writing was solid and loved it. This feels like it's going the way of Breaking Bad, with the protagonists wanting to leave the life and move on, and things heating up with the cartel and law enforcement.

Julia Garner deserves an emmy for the last episode alone. That was fantastic. She is super talented, and Ruth is an awesome character.

Javi sucks and is a much less likeable version of Lalo Salamanca from BCS. Omar is surprisingly more likeable this season. In part 2 I could see Javi becoming the main villain and Omar being a quasi-villain who you aren't sure if he's someone to root for or not (like Ben from Lost).

Wyatt is an idiot. Saw his death coming from a mile away. I hate to see an awesome character like Darlene Snell get offed in such a cold blooded way but I also like it. She ****ed around and found out, so it's appropriate for a cartel guy to off her and Wyatt in quick and anticlimatic fashion. And after seeing Darlene blow off people's heads with zero hesitation it's fitting she met her end the same way.

Jonah is increasingly more unlikeable every episode even though his position is completely understandable. Wendy is a ghoul. Laura Linney is doing a great job playing her.

I think Maya ****ed up big time with busting Omar and I think she just signed her own death sentence.

Excited for part 2. Really hope they dont wait a year to release it.

Laura Linney looks great for 57, and would have been any any successful young businessman's wheelhouse in her 20's.

finished last night.

The Sheriff Nix murder was just ridiculous on every level. First, why is Javi hanging out at Helen's house to begin with? Then, he tells the Nix he's going to 'turn down the music', walks into the next room and TURNS UP THE MUSIC and Nix just stands there?!?!

The he load Nix's body into the trunk of the sheriff's car, drives it around the lake to the Byrde's home and not a single person in the whole town notices' a Mexican National driving the local sheriff's police car? Have you ever driven around the Ozarks'? I have, it takes 10x as long to get anywhere as a normal city/town b/c you're going AROUND THE LAKE, at < 35mph, there's traffic and pedestrians all over...NO ONE NOTICES THIS. This all happens in broad daylight until he gets to the Bryde's house. Yeah, less crowd's in the off season, but there's still people all over the place.

NFW he would just pull the trigger on the local sheriff in broad daylight like that unless he's just an idiot on another level. And really WTF would he think the Sheriff, whom the Byrde's have dealt with in the past, is such a huge threat to his operation in the Ozark's. I mean, Navarro's operation is selling all over, not just the Ozarks. It was just a stupid plot point and completely unnecessary. He's a local sheriff...the chance's of him causing problems for Navaro's operations were virtually ZERO and Marty had already dealt with him in past seasons.

But the best part of all this is no one bothers to check on the Sheriff's cell phone location, car location (no GPS in the sheriff car, yeah, that's not believable at all) until several days later?

The sheriff Nix story line was just not well thought out at all. I found it ridiculous.

Charlotte is learning from her mother, esp when she tells Erin "just because we had nothing to do with your mothers death doesn't mean we won't need to in the future" (sic).

On the FBI, how do the Byrde's suddenly have immunity from prosecution of everything they've done? I'm not getting that angle at all? And why would Javi suddenly take the deal with the FBI? He's was moving about the US with relative freedom and there were no connections (at least evidence they could go after him with) to the Navarro's cartel other than being related? What does he get from this relationship? Also, suddenly the FBI believes hes the top guy b/c Marty says so since Omar is in jail?

Why did the lawyer (political guy, can't recall his name) let Javi in the house or even deal with him to begin with? Also, how does Javi even know who he is or where he lives?

This season has had a definite GoT S8 feel to it. You'd think Chicago and Lake of the Ozarks were as close as Castle Black and King's Landing. Ruth just needs some dragons and everything will work out.
LOL and Jefferson City too.
Don't forget Mexico. Javi can eat breakfast with his uncle and be at the casino bar by 9:00.

Also, if the FBI's deal with Javi rendered Omar's deal null, why would Omar agree to talk to Javi on the phone and tell him to stand down? In other words, why would he cooperate if he'd just gotten screwed and would be serving life in prison?

Omar agreeing to call Javi was because he thought he was getting out in 48 hours.

But I have a question about something Omar said talking to Marty and Wendy. How did he know the kids were hiding at the cemetery with a shotgun? And how did Mel get Agent Miller's phone #?

Is it possible that Mel is working for Omar in some way because Omar had Agent Miller's # I think and Mel could have followed the kids to the cemetery. Maybe he is reaching out to set a meeting and kill her for Omar?

I already commented in this thread about how unrealistic some stuff is, but ya this is really one of the more over the top instances. If a Sherriff really went missing anywhere it would be making national news on a regular basis until he was found but in this town people seem to just be going about their normal business (aside from the occasional billboard).

That was probably my one sticking point as well in a show, like most shows, where you have to throw some logistics to the wind. A long time ago, one of my kids was in the hospital in Houston when a police officer was shot and rushed to the Medical Center. We happened to be driving by that hospital and there were probably 70 or 80 squad cars in the parking lot, and the vigilance that continued in the days following was relentless. A sheriff going missing in an area that is obviously a huge, vital part of the state's tourism/economic welfare would be state-wide news from the day it happened until it was solved and they'd be interviewing any and all prominent and long-time residents to see whose story fell short.

On Omar knowing where the kids were hiding, I would imagine he knows that is where the Byrdes keep the money and has it being watched pretty much all the time, but especially in a tense time like when everything is coming to a head. That could be a $200/week payoff to the guy who works the gate at the cemetary to record everyone who comes and goes into the property.

The only thing I've figured out from watching this show is that the Kansas City Mob is nothing but a bunch of p*****s.

I understand that at the end of the day, the guys in Jersey were nothing more than a glorified crew.....but could you imagine a meth head shooting AJ Soprano's wiener off and getting away with it?

It's definitely entertaining and well worth the watch. They do cliffhangers and sudden character deaths better than anyone.

The amount of ridiculous story lines/details that have very little believability has hit its peak though. Like another poster said - the shark is being jumped. If you can get past that, you'll really enjoy it. However, I can't remember a "good" show recently where I so consistently said, "no way, that would never happen" even within the context of an already outrageous plot situation. For me personally, this is why this show isn't at the top of my list.

the downfall of this series is that they come up with good plots to put the Boyds into a messy situation where you can't see how they get out of it...

then, the idiocy is that it takes them literally three minutes to get out of it.

FBI drops in and takes down Navarro? Uh oh!! What will happen now?!?!

two minutes later, Boyds have changed outfits, set up a meeting with the highest levels of the FBI, driven to chicago, gone through building security, had a meeting walking down a public hall in a building with the top executives of the FBI, convince the FBI to do what they want in 26 seconds, and meet with Navarro in his cell.

all in 10 hours.

in REALITY- they would NEVER get a meeting set up with the head of the FBI ("Hi FBI can you connect me with the senior regional director I would like to meet with him in a public hallway tomorrow morning")

every "solution" is just writers sitting in LA thinking "okay now have this plane show up, and then this meeting, then these people do this one thing which they have no reason to actually do"

also, annoying as hell that the Boyds are always sitting around making breakfast, talking around the breakfast table, doing some work on laundering money... then "oh Jonah time to go to school!"

does his school start at 11:30 every day?!?!

because when I went to high school I was out the door by 0715.

He's a smart kid so I'm surprised he doesn't realize Ben had no future because his mental illness and his demonstrated actions already made him a dead man walking. He would have eventually gotten the entire family killed. Maybe Jonah does realize this but his desire to lash out and get back at Wendy override his logic. I think this eventually leads to Wendy getting killed.

really want Wendy to take a bullet as she is the most repulsive of all the characters

but because this is the USA and Hollywood- they will never harm main characters.

this is why international pictures/series are usually better as they are more realistic in real life and don't give us the "Snow White" treatment every time

In defense of the rapid sequence of events with the FBI, both parties got blindsided by the agent going rogue and arresting Navarro, and it was in both parties' best interests to figure something out quickly.
