No negotiating with the current regime. That is a collosally stupid and naive move.

The current regime HATES us more than they HATE Israel. Big / Great Satan and Little Satan.

Like Rs trying to negotiate with Ds, you cannot compromise with people who not just think of you as Satan / Nazi / Hitler but are willing to call you that repeatedly over years and years to your face.

Vance is a naive ***** if he thinks diplomacy with those degenerate jihadists is possible.

You negotiate the leaving part - allow their current leaders to leave the country without prosecution, etc. in exchange for "early retirement" (without being buried in the sand "retirement").

1) Leave now and we won't shoot your plane down on the way out to Russia and you won't need to flinch every time your driver starts your car for the rest of your brief cold existence in the Russian wasteland.

I'm not a fan of Carter nor an apologist, but I also don't appreciate hyperbolic comparisons. The man was a peanut farmer and reached his "Peter Principle" when he was elected POTUS in 1976. He was at best "economically incompetent". But he did broker peace between Israel and Egypt, got the USSR to sign SALT II, established full diplomatic relations with China (a boss move at the time), and deregulated the airline industry. A mixed bag to be certain. But not in the same universe when it comes to the evil perpetrated by FJB.

Don't be suckered by headlines. The WSJ, et al, is not getting news updates from the Iranians. The White House is laying a predicate as part of pre-emptive public ops.

"Negotiations" here is PR to be able to defensibly say 'well we tried everything beforehand.'

Makes more sense. Vance attributed statements throw shade that there may be an adult near Trump cautioning him.

I don't happen to think Vance is actually against regime change, even if its a bit bloody.

A boss move? You mean the part where Carter broke off diplomatic relations with Taiwan and abrogated our mutual defense treaty to please Chinese?

Good point, I had forgotten about that. Definitely a mixed bag. But, to the extent it put pressure on and further isolated the USSR, it was.

For everyone else, I don't want to further derail this thread talking about this. I can agree Carter was one of the 2 worst Presidents ever to hold office. I can also say unreservedly I was not and am not a fan. But when it comes to the disgusting FJB, I hope he rots in hell.
