I mean, these are the kind of hires Trev makes though. He seems to be able to spot good talent, giving them the resources they need to succeed

For those that were interested in Marcus Wood from DBU, they advanced into the 3rd round of the D2 tourney over Texas Women's this afternoon.

TCU has a big game tomorrow v. UNC to go to the Elite 8.

And I've heard that the Washington coach has talked to A&M. They've advanced to the Elite 8 already and they're not in the Big 12 so maybe that's not the right info. Word is she isn't so thrilled with the travel in the Big 10

Lenard would be fine, I guess, but quite underwhelming. Very surprised she is the primary target as I don't think she would make anyone's list of the top 50 college coaches in the country. Seems a solid coach whose main selling point is she lives nearby. Was hoping we had our sights set higher.

I'm not expert on soccer coaches and FAR from it, but seems kind of like an "Ok, at least it's not G" hire to me.

Higgy is great. However, I'm told he declined to interview. Which could be because Bell may have interviewed. My guess is, if Bell comes, he'll want to bring Higgy but that could be an expensive prop (and I'd expect TCU to counter for at least one of the two. Both are great guys IMO. They've done a great job and they never stop recruiting. TCU doesn't necessarily have all the resources of A&M but they are an attractive alternative for players and they are very selective when it comes to recruiting. They know their system and they know who will fit well and they'll pursue them until they get them.

I am not sure what you mean when you write that they are "very selective when it comes to recruiting" or "they know who will fit well". TCU is very well known by all youth clubs around the country to recruit very large classes and churn through most of them in a year or two. Just look at the 14 freshmen in 2024, as I think they only had 5 left on the roster in 2025. I am certain they have less than half of the freshmen class from 2023 and 2022 as well (probably more like 25-30% stayed). And don't forget that the Baylor player who was Big 12 Mid of the Year this season was once a freshman at TCU and left. And the UCLA center back this year (1st Team All Big 10) played at TCU for 2 years and left.

I am not saying they can't recruit. They recruit some great players. But it is at least partially trial and error, without any concern about asking players to leave after a year or two. Doesn't seem all that selective to me or that they know who will fit.

I believe he means they only recruit players that fit their specific needs for the system. They have always been this way. They purposely don't recruit players from certain clubs because those clubs don't play the possession style they want and feel it will take too much time and effort to train them on how they want to play. If a player they recruited does not end up fitting the system they usually cut them free. Some of these players they let go may thrive other places but they don't care because they don't fit their system and probably would not have the same success with them.

Spot on. Recruiting <> retention. One can be a fit as a recruit but still not make it in the program (for a number of reasons).

My understanding as of last weekend was that Woody had not (yet) been approached. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened since then though…DBU doing well this yearback on top and I hope they finish strong!

Feels like we're gonna be very disappointed in this hire…like Albert's version of bjork hiring Joni

I disagree. If we were going to be disappointed it would be because he's already made the hire and the coach wasn't in the tournament. Alberts decided to give Joni more NIL and assistant $ and the results look promising.

Making the tourney is a loser goal, respectfully…especially for a program like ours. We should be aiming bigger. See trying for almeida and then getting ford in softball

you do realize how goals work? they build on each other

loser is the 33 year coach not making the Conference tournament

Joni came in as an Olympic coach, with supposed super powers for recruiting Texas. She has been a complete failure since D1 outside of 1 OK year. Alberts has made decent hires so far, some too new to come to fruition yet.

We are (or were) a premier program…and should be hiring coaches as such. Not mid level/avg success with hopes that they can be better.

Pontificating broadly to a subject and talking about making an elite hire aren't reallly helpful to the discussion. Who do you think we should hire and why?

All the coaches that have been mentioned would be quality hires. Some have constraints or timing issues that just won't make it work. Quite a few scenarios could unfold depending of the affordability of the package. But in each case, be it Bell, Higgy (or both); Lenard, Fleur,(maybe); Nate Lie and Tyler. And frankly, you couldn't go wrong with Tim Strader as an interim from a continuity perspective and recruiting perspective which gives him the opportunity and buys Trev some time. As a case in point, nobody knew how good the unknown Dabo would do when he became HFC at Clemson, but everybody knows now.

In any case, All these coaches are good options and I don't think there would be any disappointment in the long run. I can tell you with 100% certainty, all of those coaches hate to lose.

There will be some things that have to change, perhaps some players or recruits have to have different offers and maybe that drives them away, but this is a business. All will all be fine and It's going to work out great for the program in the long run.

Yes I was obviously disappointed with how things have been the past few years, but I'm willing to believe in this program, this soccer environment, this fanbase, and that this hire can ultimately be successful. I'll trust our resources, facilities, and support and believe that any coach can be successful. I have faith that most hires will be an improvement to what we've had the past few years. For sakes this was an absolute down year for the conference and we couldn't even make the conference tournament. Recruiting has fallen off, we couldn't hold a roster together, the stadium has been a lot less empty, our transfers our scores more goals than we did as a team this year, we had a coach who disrespected his student athletes too many times to count.

I have faith in this program and I have faith that it can be easy to succeed here given our resources, the state of high school soccer in Texas, our facilities, our stadium, our fan base, our community!. We need momentum, any momentum. We're Texas A&M Soccer and it's time we start winning again! Have some faith!

Would be an amazing hire and she would be a name that brings amazing transfers in immediately. But if she is staying in college coaching, I imagine she only leaves UCLA for the Stanford job. NWSL job opened up in KC a week or so ago. That sounds more like it.

It's not a coincidence that Margueritte Aozasa resigned shortly after UCLA lost to BYU on Friday, and then Texas announced the firing of Angela Kelly today.

Margueritte Aozasa to be announced as Texas new head coach soon.
