That would remove a lot of the allure for Howard: having those shooters around him.
So are reporting that Iggy, Curry, and Dwight will form a big 3 in Golden State potentially. If you're the Lakers, why wouldn't you sign and trade getting Barnes and Thompson in return for Dwight at this point?
Now that GS has Iggy that could afford to cut ties with Barnes and Thompson. As someone else said a Bogut, Thompson and Barnes deal for Howard is not out of the realm of possibility. That would give GS a great starting line-up with Howard, Lee, Iggy and Curry. Then you have Jack off the bench. All of a sudden they might be the front runners to win the west. Man, I hope Howard just goes to Houston.

As a follow-up, you don't have to do that deal to get the monies for LBJ, but if you did it, at least you have a very good three point shooter in Thompson to pair up with LBJ. If you let Howard walk, you have the money to get LBJ, but nothing around him except old players.

If the Lakers got Lebron, they certainly wouldn't have any trouble finding other pieces around him.

GS is sending multiple picks to Utah. So their roster will be locked in pretty much. There's a lot riding on Steph Curry's ankles.

Who would GS have left if it traded Thompson, Barnes, and Bogut? Jack is a FA. Could they afford him after triggering the sign and trade restrictions?

To add onto that, if Steph is hurt, GS would have no shooters that I can think of.
If I'm Golden State I quit my Dwight pursuit. I've been away from the computer most of the day and don't know all the details, but if you've got Iggy, David Lee, Stephen Curry, Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson you have a nice, fairly organically built nucleus. I wouldn't bring in a guy with known attitude issues to risk screwing it up. I know Dwight is great, but I don't think he is worth Klay AND Barnes.

I'd have to agree. If LAL wants you to part with both Klay and Barnes, you cheerfully send D12 on his way to Houston.

Throw in Iggy. It's a dangerous lineup that can defend and score.
