Is there really a Mexican restaurant named the "Drop Zone"?

If so, very appropriate.

Y'all. I just ate at Las Rancheritas Café (off of Gen. McMullen), and maybe I just have a case of the Mondays, but those breakfast tacos were beyond incredible. Incredible, I tell you. Nothing crazy on the topping menu, but the tortillas are homemade, fluffy, and delicious. The bacon was perfect, and the refried beans were to die for. I'm for serious. The best part was the light-you-up green salsa that had the best flavor. Holy moly, put this place on the index.

hedley - that location looks like a weekend or holiday taco adventure (so most regulars would be able to get over there and to their respective jobs on time). *high five* for bringing up a new place though - the lifeblood of this very thread and SA Board.

My nomination: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/39/431602/restaurant/Northwest-Side/Mimis-Barbacoa-Tacos-Tamales-San-Antonio

I've never been there, but it's the top-rated Mexican food joint on UrbanSpoon with a 95% approval rating, and I've driven past it countless times and have always wondered. It's also not far off of I-10 so should be an easy location. Thoughts?

I've had the barbacoa from Mimi's a few times. It's been a while, but it was good.

I would recommend Carnitas Tio Juan, but I doubt anyone can drive to El Paso on a Wednesday morning.

Well since no one had decided to comment on Mimi's i'll throw in a review. First the tacos were absolutely loaded. there were probably a good 3-4 eggs per taco. Flour tortillas were good, though the corn were not homemade.

The chilaquiles on flour was pretty good. The cheese was your average generic stuff but the rest of the taco was excellent.

The chorizo and egg on corn - They basically stuffed two HEB corn tortillas with chorizo and eggs. The chorizo had great flavor and wasn't too greasy. Good Taco.

Good
- Tacos were absolutely loaded with toppings and prices were fair.
- Excellent flavor on the Chorizo
- Four Tortillas were very good.

Bad
-Potatoes looked under cooked on other dishes
-Corn tortillas were not good
-Only 1 tortilla per breakfast plate (though it was cheap)

Overall Score 7.5 - If i lived in the area i would certainly recommend it for to-go orders. The limited seating doesn't make it a great place to dine-in but certainly worth going back to.

Tried out a Potato & Egg and a carne guisada at Mimi's this morning.

As AgDev01 mentioned they load up their tacos pretty generously. For that, I commend them.

The potato & egg was fairly bland. Not that a potato & egg taco is supposed to be a flavor explosion, but the potatoes could've been browned more and it'd have greatly improved the taco.

The carne guisada was pretty good. Again, the portion of meat was very generous. The guisada wasn't fatty at all, which earns a big thumbs up from me. The meat itself was not as spicy as I prefer, but most taste buds would probably appreciate that.

The red & green salsas were good, though neither really stood out either.

I will echo AgDev's sentiment that this is in fact a good taco joint, but because I don't live that close to it, and I'm not going to deem it "great", I don't believe it will make my normal rotation.

Also - the breakfast plates with "1" tortilla made me laugh.

I'd also like to add that I was initially curious about the prices of the tacos. The potato & egg was $1.39 and the guisada was $2.69 (IIRC), so 2 tacos a la carte already had me looking at a $5 breakfast (plus tax and small tip), and mentally 2 tacos doesn't command a $5+ investment from me, however, the fact that they loaded up the tacos made me completely cool w/ the pricing.

Not quite the breakfast taco joint, but go ahead and strike Tin Star Taco from the list. Please also remove Tin Star from your restaurant death watch list. Landlord locked them out for not paying the rent.

Saturday I had the two greatest breakfast tacos I have ever tried, by a wide margin. Sadly, they were all the way out at 281 and 46. The restaurant is called Los Encinos, and recently re-opened with improved food. If you're ever out that way in the morning, get a chorizo and egg taco. The bean and cheese was really good but the chorizo changed my life.

I was cruising Yelp to see if there were any new taco joints on the NW side of town worth checking out.

Chela's Tacos cropped up, and I'd never heard of them before. http://chelas-tacos.com/ is their website. Apparently it's a taco truck off of UTSA Blvd. and UTex.

They were the winners of the Taco Truck Throwdown a few weeks ago, and have won a few other awards as well. I'm thinking we should check 'em out, however, it appears they open at 8am.

If y'all can't pull an 8a breakfast I think we'll need to coordinate a lunchtime run to this place soon, 'cause I'd like to check it out (carne guisada was a taco much-applauded on yelp).

I believe he made an Aguascalientes trip once? It's definitely been a while.
