If they go forward, it's a good sign. The preferred option is a 2nd line forward. The Stars already have their top 3 D-men, and they won't be able to protect any more in next year's expansion draft. They would rather not use a lot of their cap space on a guy they would potentially only have for a year.

With Zucc's AAV where it's expected to be, they should have the cap space to make some noise this offseason. Not to mention that a buyout of Val is a definite possibility, if they need a little more wiggle room. There's also the likely scenario that the Stars could be a player in the trade market (looking at you, Honka). Should be an interesting summer.


I think it will take closer to $6M to sign Zucc. He could get more on the open market.

Yeah, that should have said $5.5 ($4.5 is his current salary...I think). If it gets over $6, the Stars may let him test the market.

Big mixed bag tonight.

Don't hate the draft pick. I think the kid's got a lot of upside.

But now it sounds like Zuccs is going to hit the open market. Could still be Star next season, but it's less likely and for sure going to be more expensive.

Nothing to get too excited about but the Stars traded Pitlick to the flyers in exchange for Ryan Hartman. Hartman is camping off the grid right now and still doesn't know.

Yeah, I've checked his Twitter and he's said nothing yet. I do like the move as he is a younger Rous. We need someone besides Jamie who will protect his teammates and not be a civ on the ice.

Stars didn't give a qualifying offer to Hartman or Richie. Looks like a salary dump. Good sign for the prospect of free agent signings. On that front, Pavelski is available and interviewing with the Stars this week.

Apparently the team may still try to sign Hartman as a UFA. They didn't qualify him because he has arbitration rights and it would have ultimately cost more. Guess we'll see July 1. Stephen Johns skated with the 1st team at Stars development camp. Another good sign.

I've heard that too but how the hell can TB afford anything? They have way too many big money guys to pay.

I wouldn't go that far, but we could certainly be a top 3 team in the West if we add him and Johns is able to play, assuming that the young players continue to develop as expected.

Zuccs going to Minnesota, which is less than ideal. But if all holds, Pavelski will be a Dallas Star tomorrow, so I can live with it. Crazy, but Pavs will be the highest goal scorer from last year on the roster.

I think Zucc will survive 5 years better than Pavelski will survive four. But, Jim Nill probably knows better than me. Pavelki is 35 to Zucc's 32 as of July 11. But, signing Pavelski doesn't cost a first rounder.

Latest rumor is Pavs deal is for 3 years. If that's the case, it's a no brainer to take him over Zucc. There's also a rumor that the Stars are considering signing Corey Perry in addition to Pavelski. Crazy times.

I like the Pavelski deal for three years. Didn't look slowed down this year and is a goal scorer which Dallas so desperately needs. The Corey Perry thing is interesting but if they can get him on a one year deal I can be good with that. Curious if they are going to go for a d-man to pair with Miro or do they hope Johns is going to be that guy.

Minnesota is going to give him 5 years. He doesn't want to sign a 3 year deal, knowing this is his last opportunity to sign a big money contract. Hard to walk away from an extra 11 to 12 million dollars.

The Stars couldn't do that deal. Klingberg's contract is for 3 more years. The Pavelski deal is perfect, as it will expire in time to sign Klinger and secure some of these young guys that will hopefully prove themselves between now and then.

Joe Pavelski. 3 years for around $7M per year.
Corey Perry. 1 year for around $1.5M.

Essentially trading Spezza, Val, and Ritchie for Pavelski, Perry, and one of our young guys. I'd say that's a huge upgrade. If Johns is healthy, look out!

Not in my eyes. At least not from a regular season perspective. And by the time the playoffs roll around, we can put Hanzal on LTIR and bring in another piece.
