I do love that moment because of the subtext. I don't have any clue of what's to happen because I only know the shows, but you can see the Targaryen's are a house divided, and between Egg and Baelor, they cannot stand some of their own. The way Maeker immediately rides up to him, he might be more shocked than Dunk.

If this were to happen for real, I can only imagine that the Kingsguard would stay away from Baelor and might even intervene to protect him from some of the non-Targaryen knights on Aerion's side. Baelor and Maeker seem to get along well enough that I don't see them going toe-to-toe with any real intent. Nor do I think Baelor would really try to kill Aerion. The Baratheon is also "cousin" to Targaryens, right? What a complicated mess.

For sure one of the Fossoways is dead.

Agreed! Felt like every scene this episode was just phenomenal

That line doesn't make an appearance in either of the other GOT eras so possibly both die and that ends their family succession

Correct

In the book Baelor mentions this (speaking to Lord Ashford):

"I did not think to enter the lists at Ashford, my lord, so I brought no armor"

"My son was good enough to lend me his"

This was in the same moment he appeared at the trial in the book, so not a spoiler, just not included in the show.

For season 2 I hope they goose up the length of each episode...it doesn't have to be 50+ but I'd love 40 minutes or just a little over that because they could pack a lot into those extra 10 minutes.

I realize the novellas are short but the world building is rich with possibilities. For instance, a few more minutes on the puppet shows (which are all so well done) would be great.

What other spinoffs from GRRM could they make similar to this one? The ratings should be very strong and the production costs significantly less than GOT and HOD. No CGI dragons, direwolves, or White Walkers needed just minimal sets by comparison and character driven. This formula has to be way more profitable than the other shows.

Robert's Rebellion is the obvious choice because of the familiarity with original Game of Thrones fans. Only issue is the amount of recasting with familiar characters - lots of room for error.

First Blackfyre Rebellion would be pretty sweet. Lots of great characters. Maekar and Baelor are younger and central.

They're already making a series and/or movie on Aegon's conquest.

I honestly hesitate on any series that doesn't have a standalone book to reference. When they deviate from Martin's writing, things get hairy.

Agreed. I read a synopsis of the cancelled Jon Snow series and it sounded awful. Jon wandering in the North battling PTSD. Described as not a tale of heroism but one of dark anguish after he was exiled from Westeros. The scary part is Harrington and GRRM were all in on the project until HBO rightfully said no thanks. The creators of Gunpowder were the writers.

If you watch the aftershow featurette, the director talked about when she was watching the last dolly shot of Baelor riding in during filming she started singing the theme in her head

As others have said, fantastic ep. My wife hasn't been watching but I've given her the general plot along the way and showed her a few clips, made her watch this one and now we've gone back to watch the first three episodes.

When she started making the sounds, all I could think is - "That's how you hear/sing that song???"

During Raymin getting knighted and Dunks speech there was a quick flashback to Ser Arlen. It gave the perspective of Dunk looking up to him, much like Raymun was looking up, and Ser Arlen cocking his head and giving a smirk.

I took this to mean that he Dunk thought he would be knighted only to be denied. Also it seemed that Dunk didn't know how to knighted Raymun all which points to him not actually being a knight.

I think it points to Ser Arlen not really knowing all the words and he just gets half way thru and shrugs off the rest. Which means Dunk was in fact knighted.

I originally thought dunk wasn't knighted. But if that were true you would think at some point he would've had enough and fessed up. If he's an honorable lad.

He's sure letting a lot of people fight on his behalf while "pretending" to be a knight.

So I'm in the "he was knighted" camp

I think the obvious theme of the show is there's more to being a knight than being knighted. Dunk wasn't knighted but embodies the traits of a true knight more than most actual knights.
tk for tu juan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct, at this point it doesn't matter if he was knighted or not. If he survives the battle of sevens someone will be willing to officially knight him if there is any doubt left.

My biggest question at this point is, assuming the fortune teller is correct about Egg becoming king, how do all the people ahead of him in line die?

Assuming the worst case scenario for the trial of seven, we would lose Baelor, Maekar, and two of Egg's brothers.

That would still leave Baelor's kids (I think one son?), and Aemond, who we know renounces the throne to become a Maester.

That would be insane to clear that many Targs off the table in one fell swoop though.

Plus, it's not clear if this is a fight to the death or not.

I thought some point all three of Baelor, Maekar, and Egg become King so I assume the older Targaryens die from different causes as some point.

Do y'all want book spoilers or not? The answer is clearly known, but....

I may have missed it discussed here, but don't forget Maekar briefly mentioned another of his sons in Ep 3.

I figured it would be obvious from my post that I haven't read the books and am not looking for spoilers. It was meant to be discussion for the non book readers.
