The bow bird sage. They can headshot pretty often and seem to be more aggressive than the others, so the attack power from upgrading them seems to be a good choice.

Took down Ganon today, what a great ending sequence. Might take a break to play some other games, then come back to explore some more. I think I did all the major side quests.

I took a break after getting the four areas cleared out and a chunk of the side quests and I hope I come back to it soon.

Final Fantasy 16 has made me appreciate a more linear game after tackling this one... As a completionist, BoTW and ToTK are almost too much game that I just hope I'll finish (I never did beat BoTW). I got the platinum trophy for Elden Ring and my play time for ToTK is already exceeding that effort and there is still so much to do.

If anyone is curious on how broken this game actually is, here is one of the recent world records for the game (any% - beat the game as fast as you can). This run was beaten a couple days ago by a few seconds.

The item that causes the most breaks in the game? The steering wheel.

If anyone is curious, botw any% speed runs were about an hour a month after release. It is now close to 20 mins. This is fast but, based on botw, there's a lot of improvement coming.

Game isn't "broken" because some nerds can cheese through it.

Ok, not sure if anybody can help with this, but I just bought a new switch for this game (Zelda one) and I've been using the remotes that came with the switch with the joystick stand-in thingy. Anyways, the right remote has become pretty much unusable the last few days. Not responsive at all, buttons and joystick.

But it works fine every now and then and it works fine when actually attached to the switch. This is the third switch we've purchased and if I have one complaint about it it is their remotes don't last at all.

Anyways, any recs for fixing this one or should I just buy a new remote?

Go purchase a wireless pro controller. Well worth the money. The only time we ever use the controllers that came with the switch is when we play those motion sensor games.

I've only seen videos (sold my switch after beating BOTW years ago), but I'm seeing people build giant voltron things and destroying everything in their path. Is it as easy to build these things as they make it seem?

In my opinion, no. It takes tons of hours to collect the resources to build and run these machines. These guys are pushing the mechanics of the game to the limit and posting the results on YouTube. Personally, a glider with some fans or a simple 4 wheeled vehicle with a control stick is about as complex as I get.

You need a huge amount of battery power to run those machines. The lasers and canons use a ton of power as well, and you need a lot of them to do any kind of damage to high level enemies.

I think all those people cheesed the duplication glitch in the earliest version to be able to max out their battery, otherwise it takes quite a bit of effort to increase the energy well.

So work got busy and I took a month off. Also avoided the thread since we're well into spoiler territory with the time that has passed. I've gotten back into it this weekend and played a ton. Some thoughts…

I played the Death Mountain dungeon on a plane on my original Switch screen with pro controller. Maybe I'm just getting old, but ToTK is not nearly as fun to play non-docked as it is on a bigscreen. Didn't have this issue with BOTW. I think all the construction mechanics make it even more challenging to play on a small screen.

The Zora Lanayru dungeon was fun, but my favorite was wind. My favorite dungeon setup was gerudo.

Spoilers:
- I was not expecting the huge spirit temple main quest. That was a lot of fun. I totally got faked thinking I was approached the final boss fight after finishing the 4 dungeons
- **** this underground gloom depths suicide mission to get to Ganondorf. I was NOT prepared for this. I have to go back and cook a bunch of gloom-heart restoring dishes before I go back lol

I think I'll finish it next weekend.
This has been a fantastic game. Favorite part has been the dungeon design. I'd like dungeons to get even larger next game and not have the same generic collect 4, fight boss, get Sage power pattern.

Also, would love some new music. Re-using BOTW music is lazy, but I understand why they did it. The stable troubadour music group was awesome.

I play almost exclusively handheld and have no issues.

For those interested in some of the wild nonsense people are building, https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/ is a great showcase of machines

Not really

Do some depth battles and your battery will be max in no time.

Master Koga / Temple Boss rematches give 100 zonaite crystalized charges (1/3 battery) each. That's 5 full batteries

mini boss (frox/hinox/contruct/talus) battles give 20 zonaite crystalized charges each.

If you're decent at fighting, you will end up with more zonaite crystalized charges than you know what to do with.

Finished the main story tonight, and my percentage completion is only at 45% lol

The final fight was really well done. having to fight your way down to the deepest of the depths ratcheted up the intensity for me

Got to thinking… the last time Ganondorf was the main villain in a flagship Zelda game was Twilight Princess (not counting the Windwaker or TP remakes) , which is hard to believe was nearly 20 years ago already.

I wish the ending has wrapped at the point where Zelda proclaims she's home. The Mineru goodbye and Sage proclamation wasn't necessary

In the credits, the American who grew up with his dream to be a game designer at Nintendo appears to have received a promotion. He was listed as the lead battle architect (he was wildlife programmer for BOTW). Such a cool story.

Also, this was strange to me but Nintendo didn't include any of their publishing, marketing, PR, or any of their subsidiary executive leadership in the credits. Usually every publisher includes all those names.

I will continue to play. I still have about 50 shrines and quite a few side quests. I figure DLC will also come at some point in the next 2 years

Beat the Lightning Temple earlier this week! I have put over 100 hours into the game, and completed all 4 regions (order Rito, Goron, Zora, Gerudo). Working on some side quests now. I probably still have another 100 hours to complete all of the quests, shrines, and lightroots!

Never have I finished the main story of a game and logged on again the next day for a couple hours, until this. Beat my first Gleeok today, and then took out another.

Is there a way to check how many treasure maps you have left to obtain?

112 shrines in, 100 koroks, 6 of 8 full energy well batteries, finished the main game, and still only 47% complete lol

What's everybody's favorite rupee making scheme?

I'm buying/selling the dark tunic. 150 poes = 600 rupees.

Say what you will about Ganon and his orange hair and mean peeps, but when he was in office, a rupee went a lot further. Zelda sure messed up the Hyrule economy.

2.5 months later, someone figured out how to build jet propulsion. Unreal

Finished it last night. 190 hours. Could've easily finished around 150, but I took my time doing random side quests that were interesting to me and I also just had the game running in the background a lot while I was doing other stuff around the house, so who knows what my true hours were. With all that said, my completion percentage was only 43.5%. LMAO. I thought I almost everything.

With that said, my biggest gripes are below:

- Building out Zonai machines. The whole process was cool and really empowering, but damn the resource requirement and grind were a lot. That part wasn't fun at all to me. Ended up with 6 battery cells by the time I finished. To me, they could've just cut out crystal charges altogether and just make the cell requirement based on Zonaite. Multiple conversion systems and locations for where you can do what were a pain.

- The controls. Yes, there were a hundred million systems in place, but so many overlapping buttons and button schemes which caused me to consume a material instead of hold/drop/etc. Could've been cleaned up a bit.

- I know it's old hardware, but man were there a lot of load screens.

Overall, I still think this is one of the three best games I've ever played. They got so much right and the story was the best story in a Zelda game ever. Gripes aside, it really is a crazy achievement from a design/dev standpoint.

No idea how many hours or what % of the game I'm through, I'm still having too much fun to go in with much direction. I beat the Colgera in the depths the other day. Was super creepy to see it flying in the distance in the dark. Not a difficult fight by any means but having it when you can't see what's around you is different. I've spent a ton of time in the depths and I've still only uncovered around half of the map down there. Got 3 of the 4 sages, haven't tried to complete the water temple yet. This has gotta be the best video game I've ever played, it's so much fun.

I just don't like the depths. It creeps me out. Fumbling around and looking for light roots just doesn't do it for me. Also doesn't help that there are 120 light roots total. Feels like an impossible task.
Chrundle the Great

It's easier when you start attacking the light roots first before even bother exploring. I set pins where they are based on shrine locations, slap a bunch of fans and a giant bright bloom on a glider and just shoot straight to the light root like a homing missile. If the root is up high the hot air balloon is handy and I just slowly ride that up.

I mostly enjoy the depths. If you spend a ton of time there, it does start to feel a tad repetitive due to the lack of variety down there, but if you break it up with visits to the surface and sky, I enjoy it. Especially flying around with a hoverbike activating light roots, and doing boss fights along the way.

That bass note that blasts whenever you dive into the Depths always creeps me out though.
